VEGETARIANISM....

Posted on Oct 15, 2009 6:17 AM

Does anyone have any advice on how to go about it?

I have had a bit of a conscience about eating animals for a few years, and now think that I am almost ready to go green (not mouldy).. :D

I thought about tackling in this way, cut down the time's that I eat it, I've cut out beef and pork, I eat chicken, but will try and replace it with fish and then just eat eggs as a replacer with supplements and VB forms of foods which should help to fill, I may take iron supplements as well, as meat is a good source of iron..

Anyways, I love animals and even feel for the insects, they are so intricate and amazing, I respect all creature's very much, if I wasn't a follower of the bible I would probably be a "Buddhist"? LOL.. Perhaps?

Any advice welcomed..

Kind regards

Jinda

Dear Jinda,...

Welcome for going green ...not moldy...lol and contempletaing . embracing vegeterainism...

Aweseome. We have a vegetarian house holding since ever. When I met my husband 30+ years ago

he too was a vegetarian so It was easy from the start. It is good to add the suplements,

for the body is still used to a certain amount of lets say iron.

But protein one can find in everything all the legumes, beans and now adays there are many companies

that mimic the many meats made from soy beans or vegetable products .. morning star , boca and korn

are some of those companies. you can check them out.

Meanwhile it is advisable to set up an excersie program for yourself, it will help you

with listening to your body , like wanting to eat more oranges or banans for potasium.etc.

and enjoy exploring the many sites that are very informative...

So thisTHANks Giving will have chocolate Turkey Center piece too LOL ..

as we have alwasy done. ...okay maybe now Iam pushing.

but hey it would be a nice way to show gratitude to the TURKEY 's many years of serves...lol

Hey pm me. any time..... I'll be more then happy to give a helping hand.

much joy.

Light love and peace

Audrey

jindalee, there are many great internet social networking areas that you can hook up with to find the resources you are looking for. Taking supplements is not always the answer. Eating properly and knowing what to eat is. Nuts and the correct type * fruits leafy greens all have the correct balance * fish has the omega's. Research your options. O has an area on these boards also. I believe your best bet is to go on-line. Smoothies are also a great source. I do not eat any red meat. Create a diet plan that is suitable for you and your family. Good-luck * Blessings, Boop

Greetings Jinda

I'm not strict veggy but I have been following a health protocol given by The Wonders for a few years now and have seen incredible changes in my body. The key is drinking pure srping water only. Only organic food, and Lot's of Vitamine C among other suppliments. And the excercise known as rebounding to help move the fluids and drain the toxins in the body.

The interesting thing about aging, is that our bodies don't age because of time, we age and look older because our bodies are not getting the propper nutirents and life forece energy. I can honesty say that my body is not aging the way it used to since I started following this.

Here is the basic health protocol. But to get a specific breakdown for yourself it's better to have a personal session.

This is not health advice!!!, just sharing what I have chosen.. :)

Suppliments

Vitamin C
Vitamin E
Calcium-Magnesium
Ginko Biloba
Bilberry Extract

Food

Organic Foods (non-hybrid/non-gmo, see Heirloom Seeds for more details)
40 % Complex Carbohydrates
30% Protein (ratio of animal vs. vegetable source varies based on the individual)
30% Fat
40-45g of fibre per day

Water

18-22 (250ml/8oz) glasses of pure, clean spring water per day, preferrably from a mountainous source.
THIS IS NOT GLACIER WATER, THERE IS A DIFFERENCE !

Exercise

20 Minutes of rebounding, three times per day.

How wonderful for you to make gentler and healthier eating choices, congratulation.
You can also substitute meat with Tofu. Tofu has lots of protein and you can make very tasty dishes with it. It took me some years to change over, but I found great substitutes such as rice or soy milk/cheese......soy ice cream is very delicious. Eat lots of veggies.
You will feel great and you will have so much more energy to enjoy life.

Although I am not vegetarian, my husband and daughter are, so I only cook vegetarian at home. It is easy, healthy and tasty to go vegetarian. I use frozen vegetable crumbles in place of ground beef in chili, stews and stuffing. It is made my Morning star. It has no taste so it adapt to any seasoning you add. There is a lot of legums recipes that are easy to make but they are filling and full of proteins. Make sure to take a multi-vitamin just to help you body to get all the vitamin it need. If you decide to go vegan, tofu and legum are good source of high protein. Just remember that vegetarian does not mean steamed vegetables.

Hi Audrey,

I couldn't find this thread yesterday and thought that the boards had a glitch and didn't post it?

I knew that there were some Vege folks on here, but wasn't sure whom?

I just feel for me, I need to change my diet as my digestive system is not to good either and with age, these things get a little worse, so to maintain my poor body, I have to wean myself off certain foods.

Its a conscience thing for me too,I only started to eat meat at 7 or 8.

Here in Australia, we have a few companies, one run by the "Adventists", that have vegetarian section, their food is of the highest quality, it is a reputable label here, one of the best actually.

A chocolate Turkey? LOL. I like that idea, so will they.. :p

Being Female, I know that I will need to incorporate more fish into the diet for calcium and Iodine benefits, especially to regulate the thyroid and helps with the hormones and bones of course. I have to cut back on dairy and wheat, so I need to incorporate these things. I loved oranges as a kid, gave me a great memory function, but I can't eat to much of it, I'm going to go on a low acid diet.

I'm into the chocolate though.

Thanks for taking the time to post, sorry for the late response.

Much appreciated

Jinda

Hi boop,

I will check MS O's other areas out, smoothies are wonderful, I take a powdered supplement that can be mixed in water, it is relatively cost effective and it has what the body needs, they use it for patients in hospital who cannot eat, and it amazingly keeps my hunger pangs at bay.

I only eat very little meat now, but doesn't help having food at my beck and call? sigh. LOL.

Fish is the only meat that my system digests easily and I don't fill over filled or bloated.

Thanks very much, sorry for the late response.

Hi Jeff,

I am going to work off a naturopath list that I got sometime ago? It is good to stay up to date about what is around.

What I have decided on is Manuka honey, 15 + and green lipped muscles. (stomach ailments, iodine)

Chamomile tea, Food supplement powder, most veges and fruits, I don't eat much cheese or yoghurts, but I will trade the milk in the mash for it.

An acidophilus supplement, cranberry, low acid bananas, avocado, Papaya, yeast extract, iron.

Cod liver oil and seaweed tablet VC, VE, VB's.

His list was

40% protein

30% carbs

30% essential oils, like fish oils.

Under 25 grams of fat a day.

I do up to 2 hours of walking or aerobics everyday, it's part of my job, but I will have to incorporate 20-30 minutes of core exercise's.

You're a guy and obviously need more carbs..

Most of the stuff I buy is either non coloured and have little to no preservatives in in unless it is natural, like salt and sugar, vinegar.

18-22 glasses of water a day? No way! LOL. 1.5-2 liters of water, all of it is filtered, has to be here. LOL.

The kidneys can shut down and the body go into shock if you go beyond 3 litres a day.

Thanks Jeff, its nice to know what someone's routine or regime is?

:)

Hi diesel,

Is that a "green" username? :p

I love "tofu", many people do not know how to cook it, I love it in stir frys.

I struggle with soy milk though, I do take lecitihin that is a derivative of soy for digestive purpose's, but otherwise? :p

My cat doesn't like it so I'll abstain. LOL.

Thanks for your post.

I'm still going to eat eggs, which I adore, that and mashed spud, I'll have those 2 things with anything, so it's all good.

Interesting having a husband and a daughter that are vegetarian. I have some co-workers that are vegetarian, when I eat with them, I enjoy my food a whole lot more.

Thanks

Jinda, Please read the following two books: first read The China Study by T. Colin Campbell Phd., and the second one is Quantum Wellness by Kathy Freston (foreword by Dr. Oz). Read The China Study first ,because it is written by a dedicated man that spent his lifetime researching the profound effect of the foods we choose to eat, please read it all. Then follow this book with Quantum Wellness, and I will gurantee that after reading The China Study, and then half way through reading Quantum wellness, you will have NO problem being not just a vegetarian, but a Vegan AND the most exciting part is that you will be HAPPY about it!!!!!. This coming from a myself and my husband who grew up on real cream from a real farm, real eggs from old school chicken houses, and meat from cattle grazing in pastures. We were lucky enough to be given The China Study by our daughter in law. My husband read it when he first received it about 2 years ago, and I finally read it about 4 months ago. We are both in the medical field and HAD adopted the "newer way of thinking on diet" ie... eating read meat less, eating chicken breast more, yada yada yada. He became a vegetarian a couple of years ago after reading just the China Study. Now, after we have both read both books, we are VEGANS. So, we believe, that if we, who have grown up on all of the above can become VEGAN, almost anyone else can as well. It is fun and challenging to search out new ways to eat and prepare food. One of our new favorites is eating at a local authentic Mexican food restarant, where we have Vegie Burritos and Bean tacos. At this restaurant the owner makes everything from scratch, even the burrito and taco shells!!! And, my husband never ever ate Mexican food prior to this!! We use plain Rice milk instead of regular milk, which is very good, and we both grew up on whole fat milk!! We have really just gotten a good start, but we are definately on our way. When you turn Vegan, you are really killing two birds with one stone, no PUN intended. You are quite possibly preventing yourself from suffering from one or both of the top two killers of people in North America, heart disease and Cancer AND not being apart of the torture that goes on in our slaughter houses day in and day out. (read the Quantum Wellness book, this author was on Oprah) I grew up around cows and slaughter houses and believed that all cows are killed instantly at the slaughter house, THE TRUTH is that instead, a great percentage go through the slaughter line still alive while being ripped to shreads, I cannot go on or I will cry. So, you will be healthier and you will not be apart of this torture, which me the midwestern country girl, had no clue about!! I hope this will help you!!!

Hi Jinda,
Congratulations on your decision!
Have you ever heard of the Raw Food Diet? I went raw a few years ago and it is an amazing way to eat.
It can be either vegan or vegetarian depending upon whether you choose to eat bee products or not.

But I have never felt so healthy or at peace in my life since I did it a few years ago. My skin is glowing, my eyes are sparkling and my weight is normal now without dieting. (I have tried just about every diet unsuccessfully)

If you are interested there are a couple of good places to look.
The first thing I'd suggest is a Raw Food Magazine called Purely Delicious.
There are some good books too like the Live Food Factor, Living on Live Foods, China Study.

Any of those will get you started but Purely Delicious is set up to help beginners and is GORGEOUS with lots of recipes, etc.

But be careful about falling into the vegetarian trap where you just substitute meat for a bunch of pre-packaged soy products.
This is a little healthier than meat but too much soy can be bad for you and leave you feeling sluggish, bloated and gross.
It's better to eat your veggies and fruits as close to nature intended, high fiber and high water content and organic if possible.

I hope that helps.
GOOD LUCK!!!

Hi,
I practice vegetarianism or become a vegetarian at least once a year for a period of time like 2 weeks up to 6 months for various reasons. I prepare myself by first cutting meats and seafood and replacing them with tofu, egg, and milk as sources of protein. This prep may take a couple of days up to a week. Then I cut egg and milk and substitute with soy milk. I love to cook so I always have a good time experimenting my new vegetarian recipes. I regularly take multivitamins but will add Omega 3 when I go vegan. I hope this helps.

Hi,

I love an idea of raw food and have tried many recipes from Carol Alt, ani Phyo, and others. I enjoy raw almond milk, strawberry short cake, and other stuff. However, I have never been 100% raw. For me, a transition from regular diet to raw one takes a lot of courage, and changes internally as well as externally. There are reasons why my diet is still 50% up 75 % raw. The main ones are my taste bud and finance. I simply cannot afford organic and particularly some necessary ingredients of raw food diet. However, I intend to become 100% raw when I'm ready.

Thanks coneyi.

I was bought up on a "dairy farm" as well, finally figured out why they had the calves in a dark pen, I used to play with them oblivious to their fate, now, I won't eat veal.

I'll take a look around, I'm only inclined to not eat meat and perhaps fish on occasion, with eating eggs still. I have to change my milk to a "jersey cow" milk that will be easier for my digestive system, and it hasn't got any preservatives or additives in it, just like my mother used to tell me about "Jersey cow" milk is now an established thing here 30 years later.

I'm not in America, but I might be heading that way shortly and my husband loves Mexican food. It is just starting to catch on here and there are some local mexican place's around, so I might try it soon?

Thanks for your post.
