I don't want to be the last generation that saw Polar Bears on the North Pole or saw snow on the Kilimanjaro

Hi!

I do not want to be the generation that saw the last Polar Bear drown because there is no more ice on the North Pole.
I do not want to be the generation that saw the last snow melt on the Kilimanjaro
I do not want to be the generation that had a White Christmas
I do not want to be the generation that used up the last drop of oil
I do not want to be the generation that eat the last fish that was not sick because of the Plastic Soup in the oceans
I do not want to be the generation that allowed millions of people to die because changing climate destroyed their farmlands

But I am pretty sure I am.

I do not know what I can do to stop the climate change en make the world cleaner. I know I do the best I can in my own environment to be a good steward. I get electricity from our windmill. I try not to use plastic. I try not to use chemicals that will polute the water. I seperate my garbage. I try to avoid using the car as much as possible. I eat organic food. I deminish the amount of meat I eat - eat vegetarian at least once a week.

But I know that it is not enough. Last weak I had a product and it was totally not clear what the package was made from, and how I could recycle this package. So I wrote to the company to ask them about this and about their waste. To my surprise I got an answer! And a basket of their produce (I like to receive gifts, but I can really not understand what this has to do with how they manage their responsibilities as a producer).

And this morning I looked around in my house. I thought: I could e-mail each company of which I use products and ask them how they produce them. What are they doing about the environment.

And then I thougt: one e-mail will not make a company turn green. But what if millions of people send an e-mail?

So: how about it, women of the world? Look around your house, your kitchen, your bathroom, your car. You must be buying from hundreds of companies. Is it possible that you take 1 hour (just 1!) and write an e-mail to as much companies as you can of which you use products, shops in which you buy products, banks that have your money, your government.

In december there will be a climate conference in Copenhagen. I am afraid that this meeting will decide upon our future of the world.

IT IS NOW OR NEVER!

THANK YOU EKIJRAM,

You've got a really great idea, I'm in. I have in the past sent e-mails and regular letters on forest certified paper of course. It will be much more fun to do this with you. Let me know who you write to and I'll join you. Send me a private message to let me know who you are contacting. I'm north of the 49th parallell, yup Canadian, and our nation's record on carbon emmissions is the absolute worst. I think our leader Harper is the only fossil-brained climate denier left running a government. The old holdouts that wrecked Kyoto the US and Aussi, have had a change of policy due to a change of political administration. Fortunately, your nation has a leader that is scientifically literate, compassionate, and pragmatic enough to actually do something, and Canada usually follows the lead of the US (or the UK), Please do not lose hope. Look at what litttle Denmark has done. Off all foreign oil for years now. There are some really tremendous how to books out there, but it sounds like you are well ahead of the game. Please respond and tell me more about your wind energy. Really? In your yard? My group of Moms on our school council initiated a project with our school board and local electricity company and have a dozen projects in operation at our local school. Solar panels on the roof and wind turbines on the playground. Gotta run Love G

I am also very worried about global warming issues, but I never really took the time to think about what I could do. It's motivating to hear ideas like yours. We definetely need to start acting now if we want to make a change!
