Exercise for the debilitated

Hi Bob! I am 44 years old, married with 3 boys, and 20 kilos overweight. I used to do a dance routine but turning over and over hurt my left knee which progressed into traumatic arthritis. Because of excess weight, arthritis became severe and forced me to use crutches or cane. I have started on a diet of lean meat, vegetables and fruits. There are no more junks, rice, bread, softdrinks, cakes, chocolates - all my favorites before. I have gone very strict with what I put into my mouth. This is because I want to lose weight to decrease the strain on my knee. I want to be able to walk again - pain-free. What exercise can you recommend for someone like me who cannot walk? Please help me. I'll be waiting for your reply.

I was crushed up in a car accident a number of years ago (23 breaks in the pelvis, broke both legs, crushed arm----head on with a school bus). For years I could barely get through physical therapy, never mind exercise. However, I have found that deep water aerobics (and please everyone, spare me the I won't be seen in a bathing suit crap -- when I started I weighed 320 pounds) has immensely helped my balance, endurance, flexibility, you name it! I also do a bit of water pilates, and now have strengthened to the point that I am able to do some light weight training and circuit training. I now am at our local Y 5-6 days a week, it is as much a part of my day as breathing. Oh, yeah, I am now down 80 pounds (and still working on it)-----I will be honest to say that getting on bioidentical hormones helped me tremendously to give me the focus and energy to start working out, but I honestly know that my working out has kept me off the crutches and cane. Best of luck to you!
