If I lived Oprah's life - of course I'd want to live to be 150

But if I busted my back in a factory for 12hours a day - - I wouldn't mind crossing the finish line at normal age.

For those of us not in "celebrity" status or in the upper income level this will never be possible.

I have done everything "right" in my life to promote good health yet am very sick and cannot get the help I need without spending tons out of pocket.

Insurance and pharmaceutical companies have decided what diseases deserve research and treatment and which do not and stifle anyone who disagrees with them.

If someone who is a celebrity, politician or is rich with the correct connections gets a "rare" disease they can move heaven and earth to find a way to treat it even if it means travel out of this country.

Those of us whose disease affects their ability to work, destroys their savings and any possibility of future income are left to fend for ourselves and in reality the insurance companies would rather see us die, that would be much cheaper for them.

To me this is a fluff topic and rather insulting to all of us who are truly suffering due to something beyond our control and through no fault of our own.

I would not want to live to be 120 or even 150, not here on earth anyway. I would be living in a world that I am not familiar with. My grandmother who lived to be 92, said: "I am the only one left, all my friends are gone."

I just watched a beautiful CD "The View From Space, a Message Of Peace," by Dr. E. Mitchell. I would not mind living in many of the millions of universes, galaxies, other worlds, for an eternity "And touch the face of God" Dr. Mitchell's words.

When they say you can burn up to 700 calories without exercise they are referring to Infrared Sauna therapy. I've been using the one from my gym and now want to buy one for my home. From doing a search on the web I think I know which company Dr Oz is promoting, but their saunas are way to expensive!!! I don't understand why Oprah would talk about strapping your belt and saving money and then encourage her viewers to spend $4000 for a sauna! I asked one of the trainers at the gym and she said I should be able to find something for much less.

Finally!!!

I am so excited that you are talking about Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatments (or HBOT for short). My son has been going for treatments for 8 years we have taken him at least 2-4 weeks per year. He has cerebral palsy and the treatments have improved his vision he never made eye contact , after the first set he was making eye contact. He becomes much more alert and focused after each treatment. The teachers and therapist definitely notice the difference in him when he returns from treatments. It also loosens his muscles.

Insurance does not cover this treatment for cerebral palsy ,so it is paid out of pocket. If it was more affordable and or covered by insurance he would be able to go on a regular basis, Lord only knows what gains he can make.

The center that we go to is in Columbia, PA and they are packed with families of children with Cerebral Palsy. Can't they see that we see how it is helping our kids that we are willing to pay for this out of our own pockets and the same families are there year after year. It must be doing something.

Thank you Oprah for talking about this and bringing it in the public eye. I can't wait to hear what Dr. Oz has to say about it.

You're the Best !!!!!

You are correct, this is about far infrared sauna therapy. The sauna that appears on the show is Sunlight Saunas, which is the leading manufacturer of infrared saunas. And you're right, these saunas are not the cheapest you can find --- but there's a reason for that. Sunlight Saunas are the only ones that have the clinical results showing a reduction in blood pressure, an increase in core body temperature and assistance in weight loss. Because of this, Sunlight Saunas are used and recommended by more health professionals than any other brand. When buying an infrared sauna, it is a long-term commitment to your health, so it pays to partner with a company that is not only long-established, but also provides the top quality product and has a dedicated group for customer service. In these tough times, if you are going to spend any money, you want to be sure there is scientific proof behind your investment.

I am reading a book called The Longevity Factor, written by Dr. Joseph Maroon who is a distinguished surgeon and a professor of Neuroscience at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and has been the neurosurgeon for the Pittsburgh Steelers for over 20 years. It is fascinating how science is finding answers for all of us to live longer and healthier lives. Dr. Maroon shares the science from the world's leading anti-aging research scientists and how their discoveries can benefit us now.

I hope that Dr. Oz will talk about pharmaceutical grade resveratrol supplements that are available for everyone (not only doctors or celebrities) to use to fight aging. Living longer, HEALTHIER lives means a lot more than simply living to an older age.

I am excited to see Dr. Oz give far infrared sauna therapy the attention it deserves! I look forward to hearing what he says. I think it is one of the best kept secrets out there. Its ability to help with weight loss and the cardiovascular benefits alone justify the cost.

By the way, if you are interested in buying one of these, you need to shop
around as most of the companies out there have been around fewer than 10 years and are not very
reputable, especially Sunlight Saunas. Their warranty for clinic-use is quite short and so health professionals actually do not use them.

Disclaimer: I work in a longevity clinic in California.

This particular type of heating source being carbon emits excessive and dangerous levels of EMF (electromagnetic field) thereby defeating any of the aformentioned positive health effects.
If you are going to purchase a far infrared sauna you would be better served to purchased one with ceramic heaters.

I think it is good to try to remain healthy throughout your life, but extending life beyond its normal limit seems so wrong to me.

1. As our population grows bigger, the competition for jobs becomes greater. It would be so unfair for the young to support those who retire around 65.

2. LIving longer without reducing the birth rate will make our population soar out of control.

3. The strain of overpopulation will accelerate deforestation, deplete the world's oceans, increase pollution and drive the other species of life on this planet quicker to extinction.

4. Extending the human life span seems a bit greedy to me. Humans are never satisfied with their lives and always want more.

I had looked into the emf issue before as I am pretty sensitive. I was able to use my emf detector on the sauna at my gym which is a carbon heater and the ceramic heater at my friends house. They both emitted the same levels, there was no difference. My friend did spend less on her ceramic heater sauna, I guess they are less expensive and it still worked great. I like the carbon heater sauna at my gym so I will probably go with that, but I will definitely comparision shop as I can get a better price from some of the other companies out there. I love Oprah, but just because it's on Oprah doesn't mean I will buy it. I prefer to do my own research.

I bought an infrared sauna from Sunlight Saunas after using one at my gym also, but it was no where near $4000! Of course you can spend that much on a luxury sauna, but mine was under $2000 (which is a great investment in my health)! This was comparable price wise with competitors, but Sunlight Saunas was the only company that has proven clinical testing and they were MUCH more professional than other companies I spoke with and researched. Oprah is an intelligent woman, she chose Sunlight Saunas for a reason.
