What are you thankful for?

Posted on Jan 15, 2009 10:12 PM

With all that has been happening with our economy and the world, I began thinking about all the things that I am truly thankful for and how I could live my life to enhance those things. This is what I came up with...

1. I am thankful for my marriage. I will strive to do something each and everyday that will enhance the intimacy between my husband and I. I will criticize less and say thank you more.

2. I am thankful for my children. I will try to be more patient with them and try to realize that my reactions to them, shape them as people.

3. I am thankful for our home. I will strive to declutter, and to get ride of all the things that get in the way of our family being truly happy.

4. I am thankful for the food that we eat. I will try to make our meals healthier and eat less fast food. I will try to appreciate food for the energy it gives me and try to eat to live, not live to eat.

5. I am thankful for my body. I will attempt to shed the last twenty extra pounds and try to be more thankful for all the things that my body allows me to do. I will try to see myself as beautiful and look past the numbers on the scale.

I would love to hear from others about what they are thankful for.

oprah and her friends

sunshine

the roof over my head

my car

my beloved corgi dog rosie

my little job that doesn't pay the bills but is deeply rewarding

my semi-healthy body

the computer and the internet that allow me to be here

I am actually thankful of a lot of things for myself but I don't think it is fair for me to be most thankful for things I have received or earned or learned. What I am most thankful for in my entire life is God taking my mother to heaven and not letting her deal with all the stresses of my life as long as hers any longer. I miss her terribly and she truly is my best friend but I have faith that God has a purpose for her that she couldn't perform here. I write poetry because she has always been my inspiration to write something beautiful. My focus in my life is to write the same kind of poems for other people who have lost their loved ones. I would be delighted to share it with you.

"My mom was the sweetest person I have ever known,

no matter how far I strayed she always had the door open at home.

She changed so much of my life without even knowing,

she lit up lives with a smile that's always glowing.

My mom and dad shared a love like a dream

that's what made them the perfect team

I'll never forget all the things she would say

I can't wait to hear it all again one day

She always said I was her sweet loving son

and I always said she was second to none

my mom is my world and truly my best friend

now I wait impatiently for the day I see her again

now when I cry it's not from pain or sorrow

not even from looking on to tomorrow

I'm not crying tears of joy or sadness

not even because I can't deal with the madness

I cry tears of love because she gave me so much

my arms are around her though her body I can't touch

there are no words to explain what she meant to me

but no one in life could be such a friend to me

I love you Mom

-Your sweet loving son"

I guess with that said I am most thankful that I have grown up with the parents I am blessed to have.

I am thankful for my first magazine article being published in Ability Magazine (April/May 2009) issue. The article is about living with Sickle Cell Anemia. I tell readers a story about my illness and how I dance inspite of it.

Lee Ann Womack said....."When you get the choice to sit it out or dance....I hope you dance." I choose to dance :-)

Dear 4crazymom,

Great Topic. I agree with all the posts so far, and want to add a few unsung heros:

Thank you Blood donors

Thank you community volunteers, school volunteers, and volunteer coaches

Thank you to the janitors, water filtration engineers , sewage and waste water engineers and city sanitation engineers

Thank you to all who love nature and take care to be good stewards of our precious planet.

Thank you public libraries, and public parks

Thank you to people who have good manners for making our crowded and hectic days more pleasant, less stressful and enjoyable.

Thank you to all the people who create beauty, whether you are a child contributing the beauty of your laughter, a musician, or an artist or gardener.

And finally, thank you to you dear reader, for taking the time to read this post, it is lovely to have an opportunity so share my gratitude. Gratitude is the cure for envy, and a key to true fulfillment. In tough times its easy to lose sight of the good and gracious and necessary things that give our lives harmony. Thanks 4crazymom for this thread. Love, Geddes

I am grateful for the simple things. Good health, loving friends, creative work , and mostly for my spiritual connection with all that is. I love that can laugh at myself - and to have friends at Oprah's community who share who they really are. Thank you in gratitude, MerrieWay
