Sweet Tea and Cornbread for my Southern Girls

Posted on Sep 11, 2007 9:24 AM

Ok, here goes! I am going to try to reconnect with all my friends on the Southern Girls board. I don't know if I am going to like this format or not. Perusing the meswsage boards so far, I don't see anything that appeals to me at all. I think Harpo went and changed something that didn't need to be changed. Anyway, I thought the "Best Friends" section would be the most likely place to hook up with my SGs, since Best Friends is what we have become. I'll send out an e-mail to let everyone know where to post. I also want to thank all of you for all the nice words you said about me! Yes, I love those grandkids with all my heart and soul and would sacrifice anything for them!!

I tried to get Lenore and Chloe registered for school yesterday, but the school cannot accept the guardianship papers Sarah and I drew up. We have to go through the courts and it will cost me another $180 to file. I will pick up the papers tomorrow and send Sarah the part she has to fill out. I am so angry about this. It is just another way for the state to milk poor people in crisis out of more money. Meanwhile, the kids can;t register for school until I get all the paperwork done and a court date. Ugh!! The system sucks!!!

Its snowing its snowing. Whoo-Hoo! For those of you who are snowbirds who get it all the time don't know what is like for the sunshine kid who has seen snow up close and personal maybe 10 times in her life! It deosn't seem like it sticking much but it was a pleasure watching it come down.

Serenity I am still trying to under the correlation with antacid and cats! For some reason I am not getting it.

Hvae a great weekend y'all.

Yeah Liz it is lovely. I've gone out several times today and late evening and photographed. I got some great shots.

It is not going to last long. We don't often get snow here. In fact the last snow was about 2 years ago and this is the second time in 3 days. But we already know it isn't going to last. Its not enough to make snow angels unfortunately.

But I am going to relish it why I can.

I understand we are suppose to get down to 10 degrees tonight which is really rare here.

Hi Moon,

Its really interesting reading the posts about Oprah being a traitor on here! There are some seriously strange people out there when it comes to voting time. There is a similarly heated debate going on on Facebook about our probable future President, Mr "Bring me my Machine Gun" Zuma. There is a chapter in Freakonomics which states that voting is a total waste of time anyway as no matter who wins does as he pleases and there is not much the voters can do until the next election unless he commits some horrendous act and can be impeached for it and removed. My own take on it is that one should vote for the one with the cleanest record who can do a better job than the present party's incumbent. No experience might actually be a good thing in that instance as he just might bring some fresh ideas to the table but if the party don't like them then in all likelihood he will go down in flames and be blamed for it.

Moon, the antacid and vinegar are for cleaning drains. The thing about the cats is how to dose them on tablets antibiotics deworm etc) as they are notoriously difficult even if you wrap them in a towel. Kind of like feeding a baby, they clamp their jaws shut or if you manage to get that pill the vet has given you in and close their mouth they can outplay you and sick it up the minute you let them go. By powdering it and mixing it with something sticky which goes on their forepaws they have to lick it off and swallow. Of course they may just sick it up outside a while later when you are not looking but at least your conscience is clear on giving it. You know the difference between a dog and a cat of course is that dogs come when called while cats ask you to leave a message and they just might get back to you!

Must go and switch off the hose and get supper. Have a busy and early day tomorrow. Enjoy the snow and the coolth Moon, I positively envy you.

Wes 29 degrees right now & I hear it will drop to around 10 tonight. There is til snow on the ground but it is sunny and it is melting Awwwwww:0 :-(

I really got some great shots during the day, in the evening and some beautiful shots of the sky and the snow as the snow clouds were moving away. I cannot wait to get them downloaded to use.

Anyway I amvery sleep and will take a quick nap. I ahve a rendevouz witha pair of scissors and my hair later on and I must be prepared to make the "shear" expressive statement.

Hey everybody! Brrrrr, shiver, shiver, brrrrr!! It is cold. It was 12 degrees Saturday evening. Lenore and I went to the coffee shop for a girl's night out and to hear our friends perform. It was only 5 degrees yesterday, so I did not go to church. We haven;t gotten any snow, thankfully. I don't like the stuff at all, especially when I have somewhere to go, and today I have to go to Richmond to do some shopping. I think it is supposed to get above freezing today. Hope so. My problem with the cold, other than the fact that it is COLD, is that I hate to wear big ol' coats!! So I wear a sweater and a hoodie and try not to feel like I am smothering to death! LOL!! Serenity!!!! Talk about your garden so I can feel all warm and sunny!!! Enough of hearing about Moon out cavorting in the snow and Liz with her snow angels and snowmobile. I am yearning for some warm sun and big, bright tropical flowers! LOL!! Hey Liz, tell ANdrea congratulations on the volleyball tournament. Second place is cool!! I lose patience with people who think only first place is worth mentioning, especially when it comes to kids and sports. Second place is an honor, too. Even last place is an honor when the kids have gotten out there and given it their best shot!! I got the registration form for Little League today. Zoe wants to play softball and the skills evaluation is MArch 1. She wants to practice with her new pitching machine she got for Christmas but I don;t think today's the day. Harold said "No Way!!" HA! We'll have to wait till it's a little bit warmer. They got to practice a little the other week when it was 70 degrees outside. She was hitting the ball out of the yard. I can't wait to see how she will do on the field. She's better at hitting a pitched ball than she is at hitting the tee-ball. Go figure. Well, I better get off my duff if I want to get any work done. Lenore had an overnight guest so she is in the kitchen fixing scrambled eggs. I hope my kitchen is intact by the time she gets done!! I am getting a new fridge (well, a new used fridge) at the first of the month. My friend is moving to Ohio and she is selling me hers for $50. She got it for free when her parents moved last year. It is only about 3 years old and is a nice side-by-side with ice and water dispenser. Whoo-hee, I'm moving on up!! My poor old fridge is wheezing and gasping. Hope it lasts till the 1st! I will chat with all of y'all later. Stay warm!!

Well I guess I won't tell you then that the snow finally melted:0

My yard was the last for it to melt in.We were still very chilly today but not enough for the heavy wool coat.

Not a fan of summer at all.

I am so freakin' tired of being cold!!! I am chilled to the bone and there are not enough layers to pile on to keep me warm. You would think as much fat as I have, I would be well insulated. I made the Oes sleep with me last night because their little bodies are so warm, it was like having two giant heating pads in the bed with me. LOL!! I made Harold and the baby sleep on the couch. He stays up half the night watching tv or playing with the computer anyway, so I just felt like filling my bed with warm bodies!! We're supposed to get snow tomorrow. Ugh. As for me, I can;t wait till summer. Bring on the heat. But leave the flies and mosquitoes behind, please. LOL!! Nothing much happening around here. The Oes got their report cards the other day. Zoe did really well and I am so proud of her. She is reading on a thrid grade level and got Es and E+ (for EXCELLENT!) in all her subjects. Chloe did ok. She is reading at grade level and got mostly Es and a couple of S's (Satisfactory). I don;t know how much attention her teacher pays to her because at home, she does not seem to be doing as well as her teacher says. Or maybe I am just so used to kids being ahead of their grade that I only THINK Chloe is not doing so well. All the kids in my family are so precocious and have gone into 1st grade with extensive vocabularies and already reading, so I suspect I think of that as the norm. Anyway, I have been working with her on her reading skills. I wish my knot-headed daughter would have worked a little harder with her all along so she could have a leg up. She's one of those pretty bright kids that just doesn't act too bright sometimes. Her dad is dumb as a rock and Sarah is smart but uninterested. I hope I get enough time with Chloe to encourage learning. Well, I better go. ALways work to do around here. Harold has the guts of a computer all over the dining room table. One of these days, I am going to take all of his junk, dump it in the driveway, poor gasoline on it and set it afire!!! That'll learn him to junk up MY house. Hope y'all have a wonderful day!!

Hey Darlings,
silly, so sorrow for the loss of the pup. It's hard, done it many, many times.
Toby-great on the weight loss but girl stress isnt the way!! YOU know stress can lead into many other bad things !!
I've been making a transition into my own happy little world. My hubby tries to pull me down to his negative place but I tell myself, nope, not gonna happen today buster.
I focus on the good I have.
pawpaw, thanks for the tips, I also have one. If you put the stuff you clean dentures with in your coffee pot and let it foam up a while, cleaner than a whistle.
Moon, how'd ya like our little snow storm?? It was pretty while it lasted!!

Well girls,
it's 11:30pm on my end of the world and 6:30 comes early for me.
Love to all

Congradulations on losing your 5 pounds! A great start and inspiration! I ran across a website where this woman who lost all this weight journaled about it the entire process and kept photos the whole way through. She details everything about her journey. You can find her story by puting in etobeme and dot com and it will say "My weight loss journey"

It is getting cold here too and starting to rain. The kids are getting sick and then that is when I get sick. Yuck!

I was in bed for two days this week already. Valentines Day is coming up......Oh Joy! Hee hee

Good morning SGs!! Good to hear from KC. Girl, I hear ya about the hubby business. We can;t let the jerks snuff out our spirits with their mean-butt stuff!! ine is like hot and cold running water. One day he is the kindest, sweetest, most helpful guy and then the next, he can be mean as a snake. Sometimes I feel like I am mon some bizarre rollercoaster ride. It is 2 degrees out there this morning. Oh, come on Spring!! They say it will be in the 50s next week. Bring it on!! My gas bill was $150 this month. I don't want to see the electric bill!! Oh, and to top it off, this morning Zoe could not find her coat. How do you lose a WHOLE COAT!! Granted, the house is a mess, but to lose a whole coat seems impossible. She had to wear last year's coat and they missed the bus so hubby had to take them. He is not a real happy camper this morning. ANyway, nothing exciting happening here. I am going to go back to bed and snuggle under the covers. The baby was up until 1 am, so maybe she will sleep in a bit. I hope. Talk to y'all later!

Hi Friends esp Toby!

Things are actually looking up on the Boards as they have finally fixed the login thing on the Home Page! Thank you Harpo Bear. I guess all good things come to those who wait and persevere.

Ah Toby my friend if only I could send you some of the heat to warm you up. I do feel for you with the cold but be thankful that at least you can warm yourself up and have electricity. I don't know if it made the news in America but they have had to shut down the mines here and this may be for some time which is nothing short of disastrous for our economy. Our Only untility company told the government back in 1996 that in order to meet the electricity needs in ten years hence they should begin constructing another power station or Nuclear power station. The government said no we need to build up the economic growth and give houses and power to the previously disadvantaged. Industry is being hard hit and soon I fear the very people the government was trying to uplift are going to be unemployed in huge numbers. It's truly going to be Darkest Africa again. I guess the upside is that people who have been unemployed will have to be re-employed to do things the old way since the new generation is unaccustomed to working without machines etc.

It hasn't got as hot as it was this time last year yet and is not as humid either which is a great blessing and of course my house, if it has any fault, is somewhat cold in winter which really does not bother me as I have my very own power surges ongoing day and night 365 days a year. My future daughter in law thought I was crazy walking around in London with just a sweater which I took off inside as I was too hot. My garden is not looking as colourful for some reason although my golden shower has had some flowers and maybe it is as confused as all nature appears to be with the odd weather patterns we have had over the last couple of years in this area.

Can one actually post pics on O anymore I wonder? Well I am trying to be more disciplined this year so must end here and find something for a friend of mine who is making a quilt for one of her sisters who turns 50 together with the other sister who is in England. The birthday is on 23rd March and Shan thought her sister was going to hold things up onlyto find that in all probability her sister blocks will all be here beg February and she has to put the whole thing together and still has to do her 12 blocks! Never assume anything - u make and ass out of u and me. LOL

Serenity.
