See what happened on The Oprah Show
Really informative show today, as always, but especially when Dr. Oz in the guest. I will be watching out for the dry drowning possibility, that scared me.
I will never forget what I saw/heard today.
How did that poor woman manage to live with 140 pounds of cancer weighing her down? I am still trying to picture a whole human being, of some heft, being tied around my middle and then my trying to live with that weight on my body and bones.
Good show folks !!!!
That tumor is incredible! You just never know...when I was 22 years old, I had a small growth under my skin that had bothered me throughout college. After being employed and insured, I scheduled an annual OB-GYN visit, and requested that the growth be removed. The OB-GYN was convinced it was nothing to be concerned with, but I insisted because I knew it wasn't right. He referred me to a general surgeon, and it turned out to be a rare tissue cancer, a type of sarcoma. Now, 31 years old, I am cancer-free and proud that I had the courage and intuition to stand up to my experienced OB-GYN and take care of myself.
I am responding to Dr. Oz talking about how to best reduce the risk for
brain cancer while using cell phones. He never suggested head-sets on
today's show but I use a head-set for my wireless home phone and I love
it and I have heard there is no risk since the phone is not as close to
me. I highly recommend using head-sets. I can now do the dishes or
clean etc while on my head-set on my phone and I am protected.
Having a tumor can very easily go undetected. I had one removed the size of an 8 month pregnancy baby.
I hadn't been feeling well, and my rings were spinning on my fingers+ my legs were getting thin but my pants were getting tight. My Dr. told me I had to lose weight, I was tired this went on for a number on months.
Living in an area where there were Drs. I changed to another. The next Dr. told me the same thing lose weight, but look at my hands I said, no you have to lose weight he said, this went on for another couple of months. I went home I had 3 teenage children and knew that something was the matter with me.
Finally I went back to the Dr's office, my new Dr. was busy so I took the next available Dr. and explained my situation to him + I added that I felt pressure which I hadn't had before, I may have been 25lbs overweight and quite tall. He said to change my clothes and he would examine me, God I wasn't sure but he was adamant.
He did the examination, left the room for about 15 minutes and said that he just made an appointment with a gynecologist 40 miles away and to get there as soon as possible. It was through my persistence and changing Drs. that I survived . This episode t taught me to be more aware of how my body works.
I am a nurse who has worked in surgery for years. I would like to know what kind of tumor this is. I have seen some excisions of some very quiet tumors my self, so, I just would like to know what it is, specifically. suziemae
Great having Dr. Oz back!!! I am concerned about the segment about cell phone use. Dr. Oz suggested that cell phone users use either speaker phone or a wireless headset. Is that like a blue tooth? Does a wireless headset emit less than one with a cord? I had read somewhere that we should use ear pieces that are attached. Also, my sons keep their cell phones in their front pockets, like most males. Should I be concerned about this?
Two years ago I have an avocado size tumor removed from my parotid gland. It was benign fortunately. My doctor said that it could not be determined for certain if it were from cell phone use. I dont use my phone that much so that thought would be very scary!
Finally do in home/office cordless phones pose the same risks as wireless?
Thank you for all you have taught us!
I had a doctor for 11 years. He took some blood tests because I wasn't feeling well. He said my live enzymes were high but said nothing about that. Six months later I was feeling still awful. I changed doctors and my new doctor took the tests and found out I had Hepatitis C.
I think my first doctor had gotten "burned out". I'm glad I changed doctors.
The first segment of today's show with Dr. Oz really hit home to me. And, I cannot agree and stress more Dr.Oz's words about seeking a second opinion, and possibly a third if that's the case. Recently, my boyfriend's sister-in-law who is 25 years old was diagnosed with breast cancer. She found a small lump in her breast this past February during a self breast exam. She went to her doctor who told her it was nothing to worry about even though she has a strong family history of cancer. A month later the lump doubled in size. She returned to her doctor who suggested a lumpectomy and recommended one of the top doctor's in our state. She had a consult with the surgeon who told her that 90% it was nothing to worry about based on his experience and the look and feel of her lump. So, he and she agreed to schedule the lumpectomy after her June wedding and honey moon. By the time she had the lump removed, it was the size of a softball. He removed it and it was stage 3 breast cancer. They immediately decided and scheduled a radical mastectomy two weeks after the lumpectomy.By the time of the mastectomy another lump grew the size of a softball. The surgeon removed 26 lymph nodes from her right breast area. All 26 were infected. As she recovered from her surgery and has awaited chemo to begin, the cancer has now spread to her bones, liver, and skin. Now, this beautiful 25 year old woman, who should be enjoying life as a newlywed, has had her breast removed and is in the fight of their life. On top of that, her and her husband struggle financially to pay both their mounting medical costs and wedding expenses. I hope to start a fundraiser for their benefit and to raise awareness locally. She did everything right. DId the self breast exam, went to her doctor and followed her advice. My mom has had a similar experience with an ongoing illness she has battle.
It continues to outrage me that doctors so easily dismiss a patient's concern instead of running a simple test. Her doctor could have run a biopsy on the lump immediately. And her second doctor could have pushed for the lumpectomy immediately and not let her wait until after her wedding. Then, perhaps her outcome would be different. People really need to understand the importance of knowing your own body, advocating for yourself, and listening to your instinct. It is vital not to be afraid to seek out multiple doctors' opinions until someone listens and you get an answer you can be at peace with. Scream at them if you have to, it is your body! I know this is huge lesson Ive already learned as a 26 year old woman, I just hope not at my future sister-in-law's expense!
I think the biggest thing about this show that was barely touched on was that "little voice in my head" that told her something was wrong. Not only do we blame doctors for not being persistent, but many of us ignore our little voice, just hoping the dr. will tell us everything is fine. Just this past summer I had a 6 1/2 lb. ovarian cyst removal emergency surgery along with a complete hysterectomy. I too had this little voice in my head that told me something was wrong for a very long time, but out of fear of doctors and getting the "bad diagnosis" I just made excuses for the fact that my belly was getting bigger every day and tender and a lot of other symptoms. I had received my annual exam a couple months before my surgery and I told the dr. the lump he felt was just scar tissue from hernia repair from a few years earlier. Again that fear keeping me from speaking up as I should have.
I know it sounds stupid to say that I have such a fear of doctors and being told that something is really bad wrong with me, But I have carried the fear of doctors with me since childhood. Then in adulthood, every doctor I saw said every problem I had was due to the fact that I was overweight, all this stuff just made me want to stay away from doctors as much as possible. I do truly believe we must be proactive about our health in EVERY way possible, and I am working hard on doing just that.
My mother went through the same experience as the women who had the 140 pound tumor removed. For several years her primary doctor misdiagnosed her symptoms and told her weight gain was due to lack of exercise. My mother was a small boned women and the grapefruit sized tumor growing inside her became more and more noticeable. After years of trying to convince her doctor to send her to a specialist he finally approved. The specialist rapidly diagnosed my mother with the tumor cancer mass and immediately scheduled my mother for surgery.
I believe she would be alive today if she had gotten a second opinion from another doctor instead of spending years trying to convince her regular family doctor. Listen to your body and always get a second opinion.
RE: Are cell phones making us sick? YES THEY ARE!!! Just like the tobacco companies kept it's dirty little secret for decades and Hundreds of Thousands of lost lives later, we finally wake up.....the cell phone industry is doing the same thing!
Don't take my word for it, read the book "Cell Phones, Invisible Hazards in the Wireless Age" by Dr. George Carlo. If you can find it. I understand that that book has been banned. Dr. Carlo was the leading scientist of EMF (electro magnetic frequency or radiation) that was hired by the Cell phone industry to prove that cell phones were safe.
Millions of Dollars and five years later.....Dr. Carlo had overwhelming evidence, through all his clinical testing, that cell phones were UNSAFE. When he reported his findings to the cell industry, they tried to discredit him, threatened him and basically tried to put him out of business. The Cell industry is very BIG, wealthy and powerful...just like the tobacco industry was.
It shouldn't be a surprise that brain tumors have increased by 125% since the introduction of cell phones. But there are ways of protecting yourself against EMF. Not only from cell phones, but most EMF. There are several companies that have the guts to come out and reveal the dangers of EMF and have made products that protect you. One is Biopro Technology in San Diego, CA.
Children ESPECIALLY under the age of 16 should not be near a cell phone. Their little skulls are not developed enough to help protect their brain from getting micro-waved, which is what is happening then your phone gets hot and your ear burns. Once again, don't take my word for it, educate yourself on a device that is probably doing you more harm than anything else on a daily basis.
My first blog. Last year on a Dr. Oz and Aunt Oprah's show (oct 29) my life was saved, again. Yesterday, after coming home from a Barack Obama event where I got to shake his hand twice, briefly speak to him and have the honor of him autographing my book. I sat in disbelief of all that has happened to me during this year of blessings. I got back home, turned on the TV and there was Dr Oz and Aunt Oprah saving more lives. It cannot be just me who has been saved and experiencing these unbelievable magical events I would like to know if there is anyone else out there who can understand what I am going through and respond to these questions. Has an Oprah show saved your life ? How did it save your life? What are some of the weird unexpected experiences you have witnessed after your life was extended? Are you paying it forward ? Is it sometimes so scary that you cannot enjoy the moment of the blessing?

I had a 66 pound tumor for 6 yrs that cost me to lose my photo business, nearly my life and home.
I strongly recommend a second opinion as I was misdiagnosed by several doctors as it contunied to grow.
My first diganosis was that i was that I was pregnant. It ended up collasping both my lungs, left me in a coma for a month. I had two blood clots from it, septic shock, etc. They even wanted to unplug me when I was in the coma as no hope.
I had to go through physical therapy for four years, to learn to walk, drive, hold a fork, etc.
I now struggle to regain my life and keep my home.
