I am horrified! Although the show was not what I expected it to be and I am sad to know this kind of thinig is out there; I will contact my congressman to sign Senate Bill 1728.

The show was very distrubing, but an eye opener. I think maybe the title of this thread should be just child predators (like it says for the show title), not internet predators. And we should be talking about keeping kids safe everywhere, not just keping kids safe online. Even though these predators are trading online, the children don't necessarily get abused because they were online. It is the predators that are online, not necessarily the victims. Some may think this does not apply to them or their family because their child does not use the internet, or their child is soo young it couldn't happen to them. The predators abuse kids starting with infants, wherever they choose and then later it is posted online, and sometimes done live online.

The Bill is S 1738, not 1728. Its the Protect Our Children Act of 2008.

Why would anyone be surprised by this topic? It's not like pedophiles are a new thing and we've all had the speedy internet in our lives for 25+ years... so what is so new about this?

OMG 46 years ago when my parents emotionally abandoned me my uncle was in there raping me within days and he didn't need the internet to know. They use the internet these days as a broader net to catch more than was possible before, but to actually have the children in their clutches is still only a matter of days.

My surprise will come when the statistics are one in million children are raped - why? Because then I will know the majority of individuals in the human race have actually chosen to end this centuries old pedagogy.

Dear Parents,

Be watchful, this is a very serious thing. In my line of work nothing surprises me. When I think that I have seen it all or heard it all something else comes up. I have been a Probation Officer for 20 years. I have seen police reports and written reports to the Court for sentencing purposes and some of the things I have had to read and have reported to the court is enough to make my stomach churn. These predators never admit their offense. I am glad to see that the legislation is changing and tighter laws are in effect. The cases that are placed on Community Supervision have very stringent rules. Many Probation/Parole Offices now have specialized Units that only supervise Sex Offenders. This is a good move for these departments. Officers are trained and are up to date on the Sex Offender Laws and concentrate only on these type of cases. They are trained to go through their computers to find web sites that they may frequent to include any type of pornography . Sex Offender therapy that will include plythysmographs, DNA testing and may also include lie detector testing . Unforunately in the smaller departments this luxury is not an option for the officers and they have to be mixed in with supervising them along with a mixture of Felony as well as Misdemeanor cases. Many of the smaller communities may not have the availability of the certified sex offender counselors

Legislation needs to pour as much money to the smaller departments to have the appropriate funding necessary to staff these offenders. In my 20 years I have seen an increase in these offenders .Having supervised them I know the manipulative manner of how they operate . Parents have to be proactive in managing their children's computer accounts and block any websites that may be questionable. My Space is frequented by these offenders , they operate in a most naive way that children are drawn into the chat rooms. I could go on and on but I think I have made my point clear enough. Be aware , Be alert and be proactive where your children , grandchildren, neices and nephews are concerned.

I have never been a proponent of the death penalty (it doesn't seem to deter crime and what if you have the wrong person?.....) BUT I am COMPLETELY CONVINCED that these SCUM need to die for their crimes against children. There are states that are currently looking at the death penalty for convicted, violent sex offenders-I think this doesn't go far or deep enough. NO ONE wants these "people" in their neighborhoods or communities. It is a fact that rehabilitation does not work. The internet has allowed a new freedom to 24/7 access to pornography and sex crimes against children. Isn't there some way to curb this? This should be a number one priority for all humans on this Earth. Why should our children be hunted and abused? THANK you for doing this show; I will do everything I can to bring attention to this matter and lawmakers in my state will hear from me! I cannot believe people are not RIOTING in the STREETS over this OUTRAGE.

I agree with several of the previous posts. This is not just an internet problem. And the focus has been catching the predators online. Picking them off is not saving the children who are being hurt. When is the nation going to learn to think like a pedophile (allow their minds to go to that place they can't imagine) so we can go after them where they gather children for their shared perversions? That way you help entire communities by arresting multiple perps and rescuing (hopefully) the children. What isn't known by most of the world is that pedophiles are very organized and have very sophisticated methods of emotionallyy harming children in addition to physical and sexual abuse. The result for many victims under age 6 is dissociation. It is not the rare occurence the media and propaganda would have you believe.

Our nation turns a blind eye to dissociation. Pedophiles know it and use it to their advantage and we don't believe the survivors who used it to survive. What's wrong with this picture?

Oprah, please highlight this aspect of abuse in a future show. Until the nation is re-educated about dissociation and its impact on child victims who grow up to be adult survivors remembering abuse, we are incapable (unarmed) to deal with this nasty reality. We can't fight what we don't know.

I am looking forward to watching the show on Monday. How did others get to see it already? Any highlighting of organized pedophilia is a step forward. It just needs to go to the depth where it is at it's worst. The internet is easy pickings. But pluck one pedophile out of the equation and like ants, 20 others crawl in to take his place.

I think there are more than I even care to think about. It's pretty scary. Too many children unsupervised and too many parents not being vigilent. I know the different websites I visit, especially some of the very popular one's, are bound to have a fair number of those awful people lurking, waiting for an unsuspecting child to divulge enough information the perp can find them easily. Children are trusting, that's their nature, but it's on the parents ultimately to be watchful and mindful of what their children are doing, and with whom they're communicating. People need to watch their children's backs.

I always eek at parents/Adults putting their children's photo's or a child's photo on the net. Why would they do that? sigh It is far too risky. I've seen sites and some dating sites where they have a picture with their young children and for some reason, Men seem to do it most and not be aware or care about it?

And a child spoke to them, but they had already made up their minds and were not willing to listen.

Did you know that these creeps, although they have to register in the city in which they live, can troll around the country in a RV all year round? Something has to be done about this. RV campgrounds are FULL of children. As long as they register SOMEWHERE, it's open season in the rest of the country for them. DISGUSTING!
