Concerning Pema Chodron's Books...

Posted on Jun 19, 2008 3:58 PM

At the suggestion of many ANE readers, I have delved into Pema's books and speeches online and have been completely absorbed by the information found there... I am drawn to her for some reason and wish so much to explore this avenue...she says to reach far INTO the depths of your mind, not OUT of it as in looking for refuge or escape but to explore the nooks and crannies and darkness and deep fears, which I feel compelled to move towards but there is afraidness (?) in me...and I feel that I need more information to proceed with this. And you don't have to, so to speak, 'look for light in this darkness', but to explore the darkness, investigate and see that nothing there will harm the real YOU, to see what an opportunity it is to advance and move beyond...But I am SO afraid of what's in there, that place, I'd love to read her books and see how much farther she goes in this idea...

Because my library doesn't carry any of her works, I am wondering if there is somebody out there who can "loan" the books to me...Specifically, 'The Places That Scare You" , "When Things Fall Apart" , "The Wisdom of No Escape" and "Start Where You Are".... I would love to read them and send them right back to ya ! Anyone??!

I am a huge Pema devote...and don't lend her books out, not to be mean but some books just don't go anywhere in my library because I resource them often. Just a suggestion, there is a site called half.com and many times you can get books at ridiculous prices since they are in line with e bay...

Honestly, she resonates and you will want them on your own. My BFF goes to Omega every spring for Pema's silent retreat and she has her CD's and all of the books which I think she has reread a zillion times or maybe more...

I am way into meeting God in the darkness and shining the light, it is mysticism that attracts me and I am thrilled to have someone else here who has that same POV..blessings and thanks... Carol

Ain't she AWESOME!

I too use whats in my library regularly, but will look to see if I can spare something for awhile. You can also find a lot of her teachings online for FREE! try buddhanet, tricycle, shambala sun, the buddha dharma education association. I have downloaded a ton of her teachings from these sights and she writes for the buddhist magazines Tricycle and Shambala Sun. Their subscriptions are not very expensive.

Thanks guys, but is the price for a book the same as 'return postage' with USPS?? to whoever loans the book?? No! I cannot afford a thing right now other than to gratefully return the book to a fellow loaner....I did check out that website and I can't afford it right now...I know you are trying to help and I thank you greatly for it..... As for not letting the book go from the personal library, I do understand that...My ANE never leaves home without ME : ))))

If you mail a book from the Post Office and tell them it is a book, then the postage is fairly cheap- there is book rate mail. My books are kind of all marked up and not the best for someone else to read...of I would find it annoying to read a book that way.

Ok someone with a book that is not all in red marks and comments everywhere....seeing that your need is fulfilled firefly_39

Hi...firefly...I have "The Pema Chodron Collection" which is one book that contains 3 of the titles you are looking for excluding "The Places That Scare You". I think it will be a long, long time before I get around to reading it so send me your address by pm and I'll get that out to you.

Yes, most libraries have what they call a "inter-library loan" . They can usually get you any book you want but It may take a while.

Hi again firefly...I don't think our accounts are set up for PMs, are they? When I click on your username there is nothing there to send a PM. I've never sent or received one before. How do I send a PM? And if you've sent me one, where do I go to pick it up? ?:|
