Nate Builds a Dream House

A couple gave up their dream house to give three girls a second chance. Watch Nate do what no one thought possible. It's the biggest makeover in Oprah Show history!

Hi! I am posting this message from Australia.... we just had the pleasure of viewing this episode here yesterday... (a little behind Down Under!).... I completely agree with you... I cannot believe the amount of negative responses that I have read. Here are a family that are beautiful people and are doing a great job in raising these 4 children and what a beautiful gesture to build them a new home. The looks on those girls faces was simply priceless and this new home has clearly made such a difference in their life now. I find it apalling that people who believe that they are "more deserving" than this family could speak in such negative ways.

What Oprah and Nate did was a gift, gifts can be given to people of all kinds. Rich people, poor people.... it doesn't matter. Where does it say that Oprah should be providing for everyone.... life is what you make of it. I am a very fortunate person. I have a beautiful daughter, a wonderful husband and I live in a very spacious beautiful homeon the water in Australia and my daughter goes to an excellent top tiered school, we drive top luxury cars and our life is very good. My husband works very hard to provide for us and for that we are so grateful. But in no way do I ever resent my friends and people around me who have more. I think well done to them! Life is like a circle.... you get back what you put in.........and it just keeps going round..... This family and these parents especially give 110% to these children.... they give give and give to them day and night and I believe that this house is their thankyou.... their reward if you like.To all those people, don't sit and judge them and give them your negative input..... WE don't need to hear it. It appears to me that all those who were clearly put out that they didn't get the house should wake up, get up and start thinking positively...... if you go through life with the "poor me's" you will never get anywhere.... take charge of your life BE SUCCESSFUL..... make your own success.

Don't look at what you don't have... appreciate what you do have. If you want a house built for you then start working yourself to get one. There are so many opportunities out there for EVERYONE not just the wealthy. Alot of the wealthy people today started with nothing, they worked hard and built empires... and nowhere does it state that they have to hand it over to the poor people who EXPECT handouts and whinge when they don't get given things. What Oprah does is amazing... she goes above and beyond. I am rich person, not only money wise but in values. I believe we create our own futures... PEOPLE HAVE CHOICES..... you just have to make the right ones. I hope that the values I teach my daughter will pass down to her children and so on.....

This family deserves this house 100% and all of you negative people out there have NO RIGHT to complain and judge them. Instead of wasting your time begrudging those more fortunate than yourselves.... GROW UP and GIVE YOURSELF A GOOD HARD LOOK IN THE MIRROR....... CHANGE YOUR WAY OF THINKING..... CHANGE YOUR LIFE! No one likes a WHINGER!

So well done to this family! I hope they have a very happy life and enjoy their new home. I think Nate did a great job, I am interior decorator and I love houses.... I love my house and I am very proud of what I have achieved in building it!! LIFE IS GOOD! enjoy it!

Can you let me know how to make one for my daughter? I am planning to have more kids and something like that would be great! especially here in Oz!

Can't wait to see this show. I am even calling off work just to wacth it. I have been buying property for the past 10 years at the auditors auction. The first time I did it I purchase 7 acres for only $40.00 I then contected the Amish who bought my trees and payed me $55.000 that was how I got the home which I live in today. Since the Katrina Rains I have bought and sold home to families that lost their home do to the rains and water damage here in our area. I now teach low income families how to research and buy homes and or properties that they can own. Some for as little as a dollar.

Dear Oprah:

I was deeply saddened when I read many of your viewer responses to today's show. Of course, we could always search for someone who is more "worthy," more desperate, or worse off than anyone who is chosen. I applaude you, Nate, and EVERYONE it took to make this family's dreams (or beyond their dreams as the mother noted) come true. I have my list of sorrows and wishes LIKE EVERYONE ELSE! However, haven't these people been paying attention to the sentiment that has been echoed through your initiation of the wondrous concept of the BIG GIVE??? Everyone of us who is in "need" has something to give. Rather than focus on what we would like someone to bestow upon us, wouldn't it be a wonderful world if we all focused on what it was we could bestow upon others!? How many people watching your give-away shows are envious of those receiving rather than being envious of that feeling that you must enjoy as you are sharing? I am reminded of a show that you had with Charles Barkley and Michael Jordan. Charles Barkley was saying how "tight" Michael Jordan was with his money. Michael Jordan responded, in essence, that he wasn't being mean; he merely realized that he earned his wealth and that WE ALL have the potential to earn our own. He felt that it brought one's spirit down rather than lifting it up by giving hand outs. Why must people begrudge those who have become a success? God Bless you and all you do. P.S. I am also a success--not because of what I have (or do not have), but because of who I am on the inside and because of the impact that I have on a daily basis:)

I truly admire Nate's vision for this deserving family . It's funny at how things come together when you allow Him to take over. 11 years ago I stood on the set of "Beloved" and was given new eyes. Our daughter " Brittany" landed the role of "young Sethe" sharing the character with Oprah. While preparing Brittany for the role we were lead to a whole new world ,our family history.

The scene was a child standing without a voice or choices, I knew in that moment I had to become a voice for children everywhere. Long story short I quit my job and opened up a daycare center for families in need of quality childcare. Our home has become a second home to over 60 children. We provide a safe and nurturing environment while preparing the children for their school years ahead.

Just like Denver in Beloved, Brittany has found her way. While helping out in the center she found her calling, Brittany is heading off to college to become a child psychiatrist!

Mr.Tolle describes our experiences best in chapter 2 page 58. See what happens when you surrender it all to Him. Things become in an alignment, coincidences happen.

When I saw pictures of this house before it was renovated I thought it was a pretty decent house. There is by fa,r much more square footage than mine. Their furniture matched. I have never even owned a new or matching bedroom set my whole life. Two people can't walk down the hallway in my house at the same time because the house is so small. You have to turn sideways to get into our one bedroom....and no we are not over-weight. We have no garage. My husband works as a machine operator, I am a full-time nursing student and work part-time at a nursing home. We have two teenagers I have considered on insisting they get jobs so we can survive. People that already have a decent home and live in a descent neighborhood, walk a block or two in our shoes and around our home.

Ok I know this is not very nice of me and don't get me wrong I think that what this family has done for there neices is wonderful. But I have to agree with some of the others I would to have loved having the house they were living in. I have a son and daughter living in a room the same size as one of the girls room they showed. My basement is missing a wall and my kitchen isn't even half of what they had. I know I kinda have it bad but I know there are people even worse than me and I don't see them getting a house. You can have shows giving away cars to people(a whole audtiance) who need it. And some people would love to have the money you gave for those cars to put towards a house. Why can't you do a show like that? I just think there are more people in this world that could have used a new house.

Doc, I totally agree with you. You should see what where we are living. No garage...it is so small we have to turn side-ways to get into the bathroom and no we are not fat. I couldn't buy groceries this week. My husband is a machine operator, I am a full-time nursing student with mounting student loans, I work part-time at a nursing home. The county won't even help us with medical insurance because my husband made $100 too much for working over-time. I have two teenagers at home that need medical care. I need surgery and my husband hasn't been to the doctor in three years. This was a very nice home before they changed it. I would have given anything to live in that house. Walk around our block in my children's shoes. Walk around our home in my shoes. Then ask yourself....did Oprah make the right choice?

Oprah, aren't there important topics out there to discuss? This is the best you could come up with? With your power and resources, I would think you could stop shopping and traveling and see what American people need. I wish you would look at what is really going on with American people. How disappointingX-(

I do not begrude the fact that Oprah helped this family, but I do have to agree with many other viewers that there are far more other people that are in DESPERATE need of help. I feel people living in apartments are overlooked and should be helped first, as most of these people have far lower incomes and cannot begin to afford to purchase a home. And.........what about homeless families?? Instead of doing such an extravagant makeover, how about helping multiple families?

I can see why so many people refuse to watch the Oprah Winfrey show. I took a survey at my job, five employees out eleven hundred plant works, watch the show. This show caters to certain people. Even though today show is a re-run, the producers voted that this family was so in need of a makeover, "crap. If they living in Seattle Washington, and the neighborhood they are living in, those house appraises for four hundred thousand and more. I appraise homes as my second job, I was Seattle Washington two years ago, in that particular subdivision. Homes in that subdivision appraises for four hundred thousand and more. If they are so in despite need of a makeover, they should have put their home up for sale for one they could afford if they were going to take on the responsible of raising the children. Who knows, that family could have been relatives of one of the producers.

The only thing that was worse than watching this show myself was thinking about the other more deserving people who entered this contest and watched these people win. I would have been embarrassed if I was that couple who got their dream house. Why would they even ask for a new house when the one they had was clearly in good shape, do they truly believe no one lives in worse conditions then they did?

Nice for Nate to do such a special project for the family. I noticed the beautiful counter tops that I could only wish for that were replaced. Such a beautiful home. What do you think is in need of replacement. You would never want to see my place. My place is very clean and neat but sure is nothing like what you replaced. Can I have the throw-aways? Dee
