Apparently you can buy the Grey's Chutney. I did an internet search, and found it listed at several places. I am guessing it can be ordered over the internet. I know I will be getting some!
It just sounds delicious!
Here is the link to the Mar-a-Lago Pear Chutney http://www.oprah.com/foodhome/food/recipes/200805/food_20080516_chutney.jhtml
For the complete Turkey Burger recipee I googled oprah.com, turkey burger
Looks delicious does'nt it?!
Major Grey's chutney is a standard in most supermarkets, usually found with the condiments, jellies or ethnic foods. It is a mango spicy jelly. That is used for the burgers and also as an ingredient for the topping (pear chutney)
But don't forget that Major Grey's Chutney has a LOT of high fructose corn syrup in it! You can actually google the recipe and make it yourself, but it is probably labor intensive. Otherwise, I tried this recipe and thought it was wonderful, although you'd think someone on her staff would have mentioned all the sugar!
ATTENTION ALL FOODIES!!!!!! The Mar a Logo Burger- was "so-so", and just o.k. Got inspired though. Here's the thought: "Why hasn't there ever been a turkey burger that tasted like the day after Thanksgiving? We honor the turkey so much on that day, but it's flavors sadly are savored only once a year, so I went out to the store and started all over again following Mar a lago's recipe for proportions and texture and got started. From it came THE BEST DAMN - DAY OFTER THANKGIVING TURKEY BURGER EVER!!!!!
I followed Mara-logo for inspiration and did this:
SAUTE IN 2t BUTTER:1c diced celery,1med diced white onion, 4 diced jones breakfast sausage in casing.- LET COOL AND SET ASIDE. ADD 1-2 CUPS Turkey Stock to 4 cups of seasoned bread stuffing NOT SOGGY PLEASE/LEAVE SLIGHTLY DRYish wettish, still holding form of bread squares, not a soggy moshy mess). To that add 2t poultry seasoning, 1 t easpoon thyme, 1 t salt & pepper, 1/4 cup cranberry sauce, handful of crasins, 1/2 c chopped walnuts 4 lb turkey meat. Mix together, make 8oz burgers, refridgerate ( two hours). Cook on low heat till feels likke consistancy of the chubby part of your palm more than 7 minutes per side. Cooking at low temp will not allow to burn. Serve with cranberry mayo salt & pepper. Period! TELL ME THAT IS NOT THROW DOWN GOOD! I ate two in a row. Stuffed and bloated, just like thanks giving day but better.
Note: Bread stuffing should be wet to imitate the apples from The Donald's recipe but not a slog fest.
Other note: Grey Chutney is just mango chutney Silver Palate makes it, ethnic section of grocery store has it. It is just Mango and curry. And don't knock yourself out, anyway. It's not worth all the work and ingredients. The above RULES.
OTHER OTHER NOTES: Get inspired, change the bread to apples, or cooked turnips, or pumpkin, and add pumkin pie spice, try blue cheese, teak sauce, or buffalo chicken finger add clery, blue cheese, tabasco, ect... What you like is just that. Explore your world. thanks for the recipe. i'm a born again cook. Jethrobodi
I made the turkey burgers - I thought they were really good with the exception that mine were too salty. I made a note to use less next time. My children gobbled them up although we drank a lot of water all night. I do agree with the chef's note that it is the pear chutney that makes it! I enjoyed mine just plain with the chutney dressed over it. Yummy. I found the Major Grey's Chutney in the sauce and condiment section of the grocery store. It did have the high fructose corn syrup in it though.
I stayed up late tonight and mixed everything together and formed the burgers (in the fridge chilling) and will grill tomorrow. The salt content seemed a bit much while I was putting them together so I cut back on it. They sound and look yummy. Hope they taste as good as they looked on the show.
Ok, I know I am talking to myself here, but I put the mix together, can't believe I'm makin' 4 pounds of this stuff, it this does not taste good, I'm gonna be mad! LOL The ingredients smell lovely, and tomorrow I'm going to make the pear chutney and I will post back and tell anyone if they are interested, whether we liked this or not!
Bon Appetit!
