The best beauty secrets—revealed! What you can do at home…why 40 is the new 30. From supermodels to superstars, the inside scoop on some of their A-list clients.
Yes, hair makes a difference, but as another poster mentioned, we don't have access to celebrity stylists. So they can refer to Demi Moore and Goldi Hawn and others all they want, but I don't have their money, their time, or their access. I have learned to be happy with my naturally curly/frizzy mass of graying hair (I am 46). I joke that I have silver highlights. I just shake my head that Oprah will give air time to people who talk about being happy with themselves and their inner beauty and then have shows that keep bombarding us with images of "looking our best" with hair color, expensive shoes, and unrealistic clothes. When I go to the soccer fields or the bleachers at the gym for my children's games (after working full-time), I'm not going to be wearing my heels. I'm not going to purposely be frumpy either, but get real. My life is my life--I don't envy anyone else--and I am happy.
Hi,
From my own experience, i DO NOT recommend the chinese straightening system. I did it in April. It's called bio ionic. At first, I was so happy with my hair.It was straight; I didn't have to blow dry my hair at all( I used to have frizzy curly hair). But a month after i did it, I lost lot of hair and i'm still loosing it. Every time i brush my hair, it breaks. I've never seen that much hair falling. (in the sink, on the floor, and in my clothes). So please don't make the same mistake as i did.
One more question, Is it available in Canada?
As a hairstylist, I loved watching this show for tips and ideas. As a woman with alopecia, it made me very wishful for my hair. For all the women who have lost their hair from cancer, alopecia; I wish they would have included a wig segment. Information on where to get good wigs, for a reasonable price, how to style them, and the like would be great. Many women end up getting wigs that may not look for lack of options. Alopecia gave me no choice regarding my hair, but I have heard cancer patients sometimes refuse treatment for fear of their hair falling out!! They would rather risk dying than being bald. Perhaps given the tools and information that could ease that fear, they might be more willing. I think health insurance should cover the cost too, but that's a different message board!
I really loved the transformations of everyone on the show. I really wished you could have had a segment on thin/balding hair and maybe even on picking a wig or any of the many Clubs or specialty hair systems sites (ive been to all of them or to their web sites) so we not so lucky to have much hair beauties could have some help on choosing the best method of getting our confidence back without washing our money down the drain where i suspect my hair went also!!!!!!!!!!!!
Help!! I am only 30 years old and have always had fine, thin hair. I've purchased clip in extensions just to help my hair look fuller, but my hair is so fine that you can see the clips!! I hate my hair, I feel like I look like I'm balding!! I actually went to a make up demonstration for Clinique training for a make-up model and one of the ladies in the group I was the guinea pig for asked the instructor what she could suggest to "people like me" who have such thin hair that you can really see their scalps. I was so embarrassed...I wanted to crawl under the table. (The sad thing is that was 5 years ago, so I'm sure it's more obvious now). Oprah, won't you please do a show about woman losing their hair or are experiencing thinning hair and different remedies for people like me? I've also thought about having extensions sewn in but worry that the weight of extensions would just pull my hair out. PLEASE HELP!!
Thank goodness, at least ONE of the stylists stood up for older women with long hair. I usually am furious at these makeover shows where they chop off 3 feet of hair that made a woman look very feminine and only needed a shaping haircut. However, as you notice, they still lopped off all the long hair. What a shame!! Their celebrity clients don't let them cut it off; why do regular women allow this? Grrr! And they did admit the power the stylists feel when cutting off large amounts of hair. So there, folks, now you know it is less about you than about their desire to feel powerful. In many instances, the women with long hair would have looked more beautiful if they had just received the bangs, new makeup, hair color and shaping of the hair instead of the dramatic bobs. Doesn't anyone realize that they just look like everyone else in the haircut pool? Bobs or shoulder-length hair that needs curling irons or perms! Gag!
Eve: Don't think that these stylists are exceptions or that you cannot change your hair without their help. I also have lived with little money and have colored my own hair (blonde) for over 30 years! Have been in salons where they thought my hair had been professionally colored or even was my natural color!!
Also, most of the top salons in large cities will have training clinics during which they offer free haircuts and/or coloring. I've had my hair cut at the top salons in San Francisco when they were bringing in a new stylist who needed special training by the top stylist in doing a certain cut. Free for me!
Idolizing these stylists, any more than idolizing any of the celebrities on Oprah's shows, simply makes normal but extraordinary women feel less than.
not sure exactly why I watched the whole show today (I'm a relatively bald 30 something year old guy), but I did, and now I'm super happy I did. Not hair related...but the stylist Ted Gibson (taller man with floral shirt) had this most amazing shirt. It had a white base color, but purple/blue toned flowers all over. Can ANYONE tell me the designer of that shirt? or a store that sells them? Thanks in advance!
RE: the hair glaze. I think it should be available in Canada. John Frieda products are pretty international. I would check on the John Frieda home page and see if you can get an answer. Also, you asked earlier if it changes your hair color - NO, it does not. Glazes or glosses just enhance the color, "liven it up" a bit, I'd say. It's function (per the John Frieda website) is to "add a hint of glossy color and boost shine" and it DOES NOT CONTAIN COLOR.
I agree with you.
For about 4 years now, I had to deal with 7 different stylists that have "Chopped" off more than 3 inches of my hair. I do not trust stylist or salons anymore and I do not know how I ever can.
All I ever want is a trim (just "dust" the ends) and the stylists agree to it at the beginning of the appointment. After a couple snip-snip, either their A.D.D kicks-in or the stylist experiences a surge of power in cutting my hair.
Several times I confront them on it. Two stylists have said that I needed the "damage" cut off (which they don't tell me that at the beginning of the cut). One time after a cut, I bought it up to the front desk that I did not like because it is too short. The front desk said that I didn't ask for a trim, I asked for a haircut (that's a lie). Another time, I told the stylist I didn't like it and we walked up to the desk together to resolve it with the owner and the owner said "Well, you have it now, what are we suppose to do about it ".
At this time, I have a friend that just "TRIM" the ends (about 1/4 of an inch cut) and you wouldn't believe the volume and body I have now. I am able to put my hair in rollers and have soft curls. When I wake up, I just use my fingers to smooth down the waves and I have that summer beach look (my favorite style). Also when I can't control my hair, I get to push it back with a headband or put it up into a ponytail, this is because I leave my hair length pass my shoulders.
So, I do love the shows about hairstyles and haircuts, but I will say this again and I will say it proudly, I DO NOT TRUST STYLISTS OR SALONS AND FOR NOW, I WILL NOT GO TO EITHER ONE. I am very happy with my friend trimming my hair.
P.S - I don't know if you will be able to read this posting or if the show's producers read it, but now I feel sane because other people out there are have the same experiences with stylists and salons as I have. My family had said that "it's just hair", but as we saw on today's show, women know that it is soooo much more than "Just hair".
Thank you for letting me give my 2 cents on this issue.
I made the mistake of coloring my hair and 8 weeks later relaxing it. My hair is now severly damaged. Lots of it broke off. I have long hair however sections of it are broken off. What can I do to rebuild my hair? How do I get it to grow back? What products should I use? I also want to color it back to my normal color. It's been 7 weeks since I relaxed it...PLEASE HELP!!!
Lisa, The glaze is from the John Freida line Luminous color Glaze. I was there and Harry is the guy that told another stylist what to do to my hair. You can buy this at stores like Wal-mart. Hope this helps.
I was watching your show yesterday with all the hairstylists. I would love to have one of them to give me a new look my hair is meidum length. I live here in Tn. and finally found someone to do my hair. There was a gentleman that had done my hair for years. But I'm looking for a change but really don't want to take much off of my length. I would really love to have one of the celebrity stylists to do my my hair and give me a new look tired of the look that I have got now and want to change.
Thanks,
Jackie Baxter
Does anyone know the website that Kimberly referred to in the show? She was talking about hair extentions and that we could go to this website to find a solon in our area that has this service. What is the website? Does anyone know a website to learn more about hair extentions?
