My Doctor perscribed "Phentermine"

Posted on Nov 28, 2007 9:16 PM

Hi everyone;
This past July I had a Mammagram and on my left breast was a lump; I was petrified but good news it was only fatty tissue . So my doctor recommended surgery to remove it and I asked about my right breast to be done also and that one would be considered cosmetic and I would have to pay for that one.
So I am 5'0' and at that time 190pds; and I asked my doc. to give me something to get rid of all the fatty tissue in my body and he gave me Phentermine. Now I weigh 169 and barely have a appetite; I don't even take them as much any more just to see if I would gain the weight back if I was to stop taking this medication.
So far I still controll my eating habbits and only take the meds if I go out to a buffet with my job; which is every Friday. But my concern is if I will get a bad side effect later on down the road like that phet-phin or whatever that med. was like 6yrs. ago??
Has anyone else been on this med???????

In the beginning (July) I took them everyday and lost 12 pds. the first month but now I only take them on Fridays'Saturday and Sunday. At first I was afraid they were that they were addicting; but they are not.I feel really good about them, but I don't want to loose too fast I want my body to get adjusted to my new way of eating.
But they really work; and one more thing eat first before taking them because you definetely have no desire to eat after you take them.

Hi. I took phentermine from august-december and lost 70 pounds. I walked 4 miles a day and exercised faithfully everyday. I kept it off for 3 years but have gained it all back plus some, not knocking the pills because they work great. It was all my fault that i gained it back. I know i was eating things i shouldn't have been. I will probably take them again if I can't get it off by myself.

Every month when I go get my weight checked I get a vitamin B shot. Did you have to get that?

As long as you take them and watch your fried foods and sweets you should be able to do it with no problem. After your stomach gets use to not getting as much food your mind will also cooperate. That's the main thing, the mind.;) And you do have to exercise some. The more you exercise the faster it will come off.

I don't excercise much but my work contains alot of walking and sometimes running; plus I do alot at home to keep me busy; I stay very active everyday.
I never got into excercising that's my downfall.

I don't eat fried food any more; my problem is I am a late night eater and I LOVE CHOCOLATE- I eat it everday and now with this med if I have chocolate I substitute that as a meal- I no that is wrong but 4-real I need chocolate.

Yes I have. Its been a long time ago. It works but I don't think I would try it again. It would make me feel good and then when i came down it would be bad. Could not sleep very good. I'm drinking Wu-Yi tea now and I feel good all the time. And I don't need to go to the doc. And it's good for you to drink.

From what I know the phentermine is only 1/2 of the phen-phen diet pills. Also the safer of the two. It is the other half that was banned. Congrats on having luck taking and losing weight ont them. I took the phentermine for awhile a couple years ago. I never lost the weight I was looking to lose but it kept me at the place I was at. When I stopped taking them, I went from a 16 to 20...how sad is that. Two years ago I spent about 3 months going to gym and working with a trainer for a short while. I tried to keep the pace of Bob Greens exercise regimen in his Best Life Diet, I lost about 10-15 lbs at the time but I went down to a size 14, that was amazing. Muscle is so much better than fat, that is for sure. Dr. Oz would have a field day with me now. I suffer from massive Omentum. All my weight is in my stomach. I just want to curl up in a corner and hide.

Hello everyone. i too am taking phentermine. I have been taking it since dec 28th, and I love it. I was taking the lowest dosage, but this week have been upped. I feel so much better! i have actually began exercising and feel great. i started out walking on the treadnill, and now i run one mile everyday and walk three. I am working very hard at trying to get up to running two miles, but i have never been a runner in my life, so...Anyway, I have lost 11 lbs since dec 28th and i really havent cut out any foods. i eat what i want, but just not as much because I am not as hungry as I used to. I try to eat three meals and one snack, and with these pills I often have to force myself to eat something.

Sunrisedkt- You are right. Phen Phen was a mixture of phentermine and something else that i forgot, but the other part was the bad "stuff". And I too have major belly baggage...three children later I still look like i am in the beginning stages of preganancy...lol...but i wish i had measure before i started taking the pills, becasue most of my loss has been in my stomach. I keep looking to see it in my face, but....i am just as happy to see it in my stomach.

Good luck to everyone and if anybody needs a check in buddy please let me kno!!

Ive been on thes meds b/4 and did well and lost 20lbs. 3yrs later I've gained that 20lbs and add another 20, I just started back on them last month because I too am a unhealthy 5'1 and 196lbs but it is not working as effective as last time. I havent lost any weight, I just hadnt gained any. I think maybe cause Im not exercising at all, just really dont have the time but i am eating better. Like you, I too have a medical reason that my doc has said I need to lose 50lbs. But overall, since taking the meds years ago they seem to be pretty safe. After all the tests and exams Ive taken over the last few years none of my results have came back with a health condition from the meds. Keep at it, it sounds like you are doing great, pls keep us posted on your progress and Ill do the same

I just saw an advertisement on TV today for a study for weight loss using phentermie and topiramate. I went to WebMD website and looked up the side effects and what it is prescribed for. I would look into it more deeply before taking it. I decided not to do the study. I have high blood pressure and one of the side effects was severe HP. I have about 50 pounds to lose and am 59 years old. I have fought my weight problems since I was a child and I truly believe that these medicines might help you lose weight, but not keep it off. Is it worth risking your health for? Are you doing The Best Life on Oprah? Wish you lots of luck!! Think positive, you can do it, you can do it, you can do it...........
