Most .. if not all of the men that I see refuse to be screened for colon cancer when they eventually get to see their doctor. What is it about men that they don't feel comfortable about having this done? When I suggest it ... all I get is 'I don't want no man's finger up my butt!'
How can this problem be approached?
I think you could approach this problem by asking if he would rather "have another man's finger up his butt" or die? I'm sure its an embarrassing and uncomfortable procedure, but so is having your legs spread apart in stirrups for your annual pap exam.
My dad went for a colonoscopy (actually, he's been for a few), and the first one was probably the hardest, but he just joked about it and laughed it off, then it was no big deal.
I would love to see a show on Osteoporosis as well. I am 51 years old and have it already. Have been taking Fosamax, calcium supplemts and hormones. I continue to have my bone density scans every year and continue to loose bone mass. I have been to Gyn and an Endocrinologist but have not found any specialist that know anything about the latest tretments, etc. Please have Dr. Oz discuss the subject on the show!!
@ hugtrees .. you know, believe it or not, I care more about the health of my residents than they do. It would seem the older my seniors get, the less likely they are of following doctors orders or going for necessary doctor exams. Must be something of the mentality, I'm getting older...I'm going to enjoy life ...and if or when I die, I'll deal with that when it happens.
aigle ... I was just mentioning this. Even before I had read your comments.
Thank goodness everything turned out alright. I just wish more people would get the necessary screenings. Prevention is the cure in a lot of cases.
