NOW - A musical inspiration...

Posted on Mar 31, 2008 11:53 AM

What a beautiful and wonderful thing that music is... Today I have been going through the message boards and I found a post talking about music and the ego and our experiences, one I hope many of you take a look at... But I wanted to personally share a few things:

I have recently begun reading The Power of Now and I intend to finish it before I begin "A New Earth." I have been listening and taking part in the classes. I know of a Canadian musician (from the East Coast) by the name of Dave Carroll who has recently released a new cd (Perfect Blue) and one of the songs is called "NOW." Everytime I hear that song, it brings me back to everything Eckhart talks about (or at least what I have read and listened to so far) and I feel so centred. Maybe even a little emotional... but they are happy tears. Actually inspired and confident to handle whatever it is that happens, as it happens good and bad.

I recently learned that the song Dave Carroll wrote "NOW," was actually inspired by "The Power of Now." It is a fantastic musical representation the essence Tolle presents in both "A New Earth" and "The Power of Now." I hope you all get the chance sometime soon to listen to this song and experience how moving and truly powerful it is...

:) Well I am certainly enjoying the section in Chapter 7 about the dreamer and the dream. I would consider myself a fairly big dreamer up until Now, so it helped put things into perspective for me.... into that present moment. O love on page 210 where Tolle writes "... To awaken within the dream is our purpose now. When we are awake within the dream, the ego-created earth drama comes to an end and a more benign and wondrous dream arises. This is a new earth..." But the story about Stephen Hawking was nice to read too....

I love how NOW just keeps coming up in conversation and otherwise... it really is the word that binds everything together!

I didn't have a chance to pick the book back up a couple days ago as planned, Jononomoe, so after reading your response, I know I want to RE_READ chapter 7 and try to get a couple more chapters under my belt. Tonight with any luck.

Now (hahah!) to bring this back to the original topic briefly, if anyone else hasn't heard the song Now by Dave Carroll and wants to, it's on YouTube. Search Now and Dave Carroll. I'd like to know how others respond to it. I think it resonates beautifully with this book, particularly these later chapters.

Cheers, Tina

20. Re: NOW - A musical inspiration...recent endorsement from Eckhart Tolle himself!

I heard some feedback the other day too Jononomoe. I sent the YouTube link for the song to my husband's aunt who isn't a part of this forum, but she's reading ANE. She loved it.

She said,

"Thank you, thank you, thank you. The song is truly perfect. It's gentle feel and reassurance is in such sync with the book and how I am feeling. ... You've shared a gift. Thanks again."

I can't put a link here. If you want to hear "Now" by Dave Carroll, which Eckhart Tolle recently endorsed as "A song that invites us beyond the pain of the Past in to the Freedom of the Now", go to YouTube and search "Now" and "Dave Carroll". It's off his new album "Perfect Blue".

GORGEOUS!!!

Hey Jononmoe

Glad to find this post. You mentioned this on a music thread I posted a while back, but to be honest, I never got around to checking it out. Seeing you mention it again, made me go check it out. Just listened to it on the youtube site and loved it!! How perfectly it relates to the book! I also really enjoyed the beautiful sights on the video! Thanks again. :) Kathy

Yes... not to distract from the purpose of this thread (being sharing the song "NOW"), but, Dave Carroll is a fantastic musician - singer - songwriter... And one heck of a really nice guy!!! He produces songs that you feel as if they are written about your life. The lyric has such depth and quality. It has been said that his songs have a "coming home sense of familiarity" and that he "sings with his own voice telling stories and sharing his unique observations of the world in which we live." Perhaps that is what makes "Now" even more appealing. It applies to each one of us... whether things in our lives are going well or whether they are now going as planned....

I learned today that he is #1 on the East Coast Countdown with another single from his cd Perfect Blue - called Promise to Pursue....

So everybody... go to youtube or myspace and take a listen to the song "Now"... You will be very happy you did....

That is so great! That you liked it of course... not that you were crying... Although a good cry is good too sometimes. I really REALLY believe in this song! It is as if not more powerful then songs you hear like Josh Groban's You Raise Me Up, etc...
