As a kid, I aspired to be the next Chris Evert. Watching her rivalry with Martina showed a whole generation of girls that it was cool to be competitive, and being an athlete did not compromise who you are as a woman. These women are great role models and truly paved the way for the next generation of women athletes. I am grateful that I grew up in a time when I could see history unfolding. Sadly, I never made it in the world of professional tennis, but I still play as much as possible and have a lifelong love for the game. What a great idea for a show! I must tell you, I am as excited to see this show as I was to see the matches as a kid! Thank you.

Shame on you Oprah for encouraging the behavior of Coach Stringer in regards to her breast cancer. I have not read the book and you did not share on the show the extent of her cancer and what, if any, procedures and treatments she had, but as a current breast cancer chemotherapy patient, I believe that by not sharing this news with her sons and her family she was denying them the opportunity not only to help her, but to prepare themselves if, in fact, the worst happened. How betrayed those people would have felt should Coach Stringer's cancer been more serious. Not everyone needs to be a poster child for cancer, but to hide it from those we love does a disservice to everyone involved. I completely agree with her approach to moving forward and not bemoaning the path of life, someone always has a worse situtation, but shouldn't she be setting an example for those young basketball players by being forthright?

Great show! However, disappointed that it was never brought up that there have been many reports that Chris and Greg were having an affair while still married to their previous spouses. Since I'm a big tennis fan, and my husband is a big golf fan, we were eager to hear the truth from Chris herself. Still a great show! Coach Stringer is an awesome example for all women, young and old.

This was one of the most inspirational programs that the Oprah show has had in a long time. These three women have been role models to untold numbers of girls and young women. I was particularly moved by Vivian's strength and resolve in the face of great adversity. This is the stuff of which heroines are made!

Coach Sringer is a wonderful role model and teacher for women young and old. I have had the privilege to know her for 10 years. She is a role model to my 22 year old daughter who is dying of cancer. Coach Stringer made Kiersten the honorary coach of the season and had a jersey made for her. She is an inspiration. The local paper did a story on Kiersten's relationship with Coach Stringer on March 1, 2008.

Every time I feel sorry for myself I think of all she has gone through and how she teaches others through her experiences. Thank you for having Coach Stringer on your show.

I enjoyed today's show but would like to point out that Don Imus' slur was not only racist--it was sexist, too. Sexism is so entrenched in out culture, we hardly even notice it anymore (except the over-the-top stuff in rap and hip-hop) and some foolishly claim that we're past it. We're not and the outrage over Imus should be as much about the slur to women as to African Americans.

Nicholas Kristoff had a fabulous column in the NY Times this week about racism and sexism--in that he discusses research showing that people are able ignore race much more easily than gender.

I see Vivian Stringer is playing the victim card again. I don't approve of what Imus said, but if that devastated those girls, then they are in a whole lot of trouble. She makes women look weak. Can you imagine Oprah sitting around talking about how upset she was and that she cried over the situation? No way!! Oprah would have said "Who the hell cares what he said, he's an idiot." Toughen up ladies!

Dear Oprah

Thank you for a very inspirational show. Absolutely wonderful. It reminded me that in October my friends and I will have our 50th (yes, 50th!) high school reunion! It's special because, for some strange reason more than 20% of us have died from breast or ovarian cancer and we don't know why. We have learned that every moment we can share is precious. Old friends are the best friends. Your partner in all you do, Nancy Sinatra

In a bunch of ways I can relate to how Coach Stringer may have felt over the past years raising a child diganosed with spinal meninigitis -- as a seven month old infant I was diganosed with it and my parents were told that I would never be able to fuction as a normal person but today I am a living breathing example of my parents refusal to accept what the doctors had said at that time I am now a happy 30 somthing single parent raising a happy healthy daughter

You are so right old friends are indeed the best friends. its been forty years for me and I so look for to celebrating life and old friend when it is time for my 50th. I have 2 dear friends who I have had the privilege of knowing for over 35 years and both had to deal with cancer one in 2004 and one who just had surgery a few weeks ago for ovarian cancer. And they are exceptional funny brave and smart women. In both cases it was caught early and I am delighted they went thorugh it with fire and determination and are here for us to enjoy many more years together.

Brava Coach Stringer!.

I so loved the show. I have always admired Martina, Chris and Vivian and followed their playing and coaching careers. This is really for you, though, Oprah. In discussing with Martina her struggles with coming out as a gay woman and her loss of endorsements and her lack of support from fans, you made a comment, in effect, that it was wonderful that society had come along and that things had gotten better in regards to being gay. Well, as a black woman I think you can appreciate a white person saying to you, isn't it wonderful how far we have come in regards to race relations....it depends on what seat you are sitting in! Martina, Ellen, Melissa...they are famous and people like them and appreciate them for what they do. They are stars, though, and live in a different world. Just like the world you live in...yours is different from the average black person who still feels prejudice in his/her everyday life. School students are still being harassed and bullied and yes, even killed for being, acting or even being perceived as gay. Anti-discrimination laws against gays are not being passed in states because the legislators are afraid that gays will want to get married, failing to realize tha the two are not even connected. I live in a state that has refused to even allow an anti-discrimination bill to be voted on. Because of redistricting, my area, with a large population of gays and lesbians, is represented by a homophobic bigot who refuses to believe that gays are discriminated against. So, for you and Martina, yes, things have changed but for us average folks, there is still a lot to be done.

To me, this show could help to promote positive body image. Here you see two women with totally differnt body styles yet they are both fit and healthy. If we saw examples like this on a regular basis it would help to improve body image and self-esteem for women and young girls.

You make an important point here. I live in a very openly gay area of Long Beach, CA. We are probably more accepting here than anywhere in the U.S. (or at least California) except San Francisco. Still, people here have a justifiable fear regarding hate crimes and discrimination.

I watched the show about Coach Stringer too and I admire very much her courage and the way she guided her team to handle the terrible slur from Don Imus. However, in Eckart Tolle's book, +The New Earth+, he writes about compassion, forgiveness and being nonjudgemental. Don Imus apologized for his "sin" against the basketball team. Yet Oprah and others seem not to forgive him. Oprah seems so sure that Don Imus was not sincere in his apology. How can she judge another's heart? The girls on the team have forgiven him, but Oprah and many others will not. In today's political news we hear of Rev. Wright at Senator Obama's church in Chicago. Many say Rev. Wright should not be judged on those "sound bites," he is so much more of a loving pastor whose has given so much to his community. So we have been asked to forgive Rev. Wright's anti-American and hate filled speeches because of "all of the good things he has done," yet if we say Don Imus started and runs a special ranch for Kids with Cancer, his wife started a children's foundation in hospitals in New Jersey and she tries to help with the environment with green cleaning products and they both support the search for a cure for autism it is not "enough" because he used such terrible judgement in saying an awful racial slur. If anyone really listened to Don Imus for 20 years or more, yes you would hear awfully rude statements against others, but most often you would hear his self-effacing remarks about being a self-described "stupid idiot." When he truthfully talks about his spiritually, he tells how a black minister brought him to Jesus. When the minister passed, Don Imus spoke to the widow on the radio. That is one of the most remarkably spiritual conversations between two people that I've ever heard. Ever. Ask the wounded soldiers who are receiving treatment at the rehabilitation center in the southwest that Don Imus helped to fund, and I know all of them, white, black, Hispanic aand Asian would agree that Don Imus is a good and decent man. Perhaps Oprah would someday invite Don and Deidre Imus on her show to talk about racism, sexism and the need for forgiveness.
