I do not avoid allopathic doctors and do get regular physical check ups but, that is as far as I take it. I am homeopathically treated and intend to keep it that way. I waive the doctor good bye the minute he tries to put his two cents in. While allopathic medicine has it's place in my life homeopathy, is the route I chose.
I do my own research on what is ailing me and rely heavily on my homeopath.
I would like to know what DR. Oz's thoughts are on Chiroprctor care? Gonstead, seems to include a healthy diet, alot of what he says seems to follow their believe, do I really need the adjustments if I eat right? This might seem like a dumb Question but is important to me. Thanks
Colonoscopy killed my Grandmother. My Grandmother was a very healthy and active woman in her eighties when she went for a routine colonoscopy. It was so routine that some of the grandkids did not even know she was going to hospital until the day it happened. She had no family history and no symptoms. After she came home the next day she collapsed in horrible pain and had to be rushed to the hospital again. We spent several agonizing weeks being told different stories by the doctors. That it wasn't cancer, that it was etc. Eventually we found out the truth, that the original procedure had caused peritonitis. Had the Doctors diagnosed this correctly at the outset, she probably could have been saved. I am very angry with the Doctors for trying to cover up their mistakes. I would not recommend any unnecessary medical procedure.
You know, most adults who avoid going to the doctor office is because they don't have health insurance!! My family of 5 live at or below the "poverty" level and we don't have health insurance. Most of my family members on my mothers side has or had CANCER. My mom has had it 5 times!! Her sister has brain and lung cancer now. Every time I feel bad , run a temperature, or have pain I am scared that I have develped cancer. Breast cancer is common in my family and I can't even afford to have the "mammogram" that they recommend. My husband works hard but makes very little. Health insurance where he works is 600.00 a month and he only makes 1,200.00 a month. So, it is not that every one is afraid of the results , I am, but it is a matter of ability to pay for the Doctor.
WOW OH WOW....This hit home with my family today. I have Gardner's Syndrome and so does 8 of my blood family members. I did not know that this was in our family. I was 43 years old and the average age of death with this disease is 39 years old. If it would not have been for my brother having a colonoscopy at 39 years old, I would be dead today. My brother and I had thousands of polyps in our colons. My brother and I had our colons removed and today is 8 years to the day that I had my colon removed. I am so very happy that Dr. Oz did a show with you on colon cancer and having colonoscopy....One problem is our mother had the disease and she died early and we did not know that this was even in our family. It truly has been a nightmare for our family because not only do we have eight family members with this disease, but because of this very rare disease with Gardner's Syndrome but with this disease you can get desmoid tumors that can be just as bad as the cancer in the colon. I am working with the Desmoid Tumor Research Foundation dtrf org to find a cure for this very rare disease. One in a million people has this disease and most do not even know that they have it. Please help me get the word outl there about it. More research needs to be done. Please help the desmoid tumor family in the world.....
Maybe I will go for a regular checkup again someday! The last one included a colonoscopy which was done with no sedative, no anesthesia, no tranquilizer -- and it was so excruciatingly painful I vowed I would never have another one. And I haven't. Of course that means I have not had a regular checkup in 15 or 20 years, and I am now 73. I have an annual flu shot. I monitor my blood pressure. Take baby aspirin. Have not had a full blown cold in at least 10 years.
I saw Dr. Oz in Orlando, FL at the Chronic Pain Seminar last month. He did not get to answer any of our questions because he ran out of time...My questions are about Gardner's Syndrome, desmoid tumors and diet without a colon.
I had a colectomy with J-Pouch done 8 years ago and I have about 6 to 8 desmoid tumors and the question is: How can I still healthy and live a long life with Gardner's Syndrome???? What foods are good for me to eat without a colon? What foods or vitamins should I take to help with desmoid tumors? There has to be a link to all of these things and I have read and read articles on the web until I am blue in the face. I will be getting the results of my granddaughter's blood test to see if she has this disease. My son, daughter, brother, sister and at least three neices and nephews have it to. I would like for my daughter to live much longer with her colon. Please help me with this information it is very important to my whole blood family.
Dr. Oz is on her show to make people aware of important things they need to know about their health. You might be surprised at that amount of people that watch shows he's on and use the information to aid themselves in personal health issues. Feel good about the fact that maybe, just maybe he's saved a life or two. Be grateful for that.
I was diagnosed with Basal Cell Carcinoma when I was 14 years old. I noticed the "mole" when I was 12 years old. I went to the beach with my parents and when I got home, I noticed something on my face. I tried to get it off but I thought it would come off in the shower. It looked like a shiny piece of sand. I checked it when I got out of the shower and it was still there. I didn't think of it anymore. As the months and the next 2 years passed it became larger, not significant but enough to notice. The mole was the same color as my skin and it never hurt or bothered me. There were no scaling or anything remarkable as seen on today's show. My aunt started working for a dermatologist and she became alarmed and looked at it under a magnifiying glass. She said she could see veins running through it and told my mother to make me an appointment as soon as possible. The appointment was made and I went to the dermatologist. The initial appointment was a consult and he took a biopsy of it. About 1 week later I got a phone call that it was basal cell carcinoma and I was scheduled for surgery. The physician I saw said I was the youngest he knew to ever have skin cancer like that. I am 31 years old today and everytime I go out the door I put on a sunblock. I have NEVER been in a tanning booth. I live close to the beach and still enjoy the summer but I am extremely careful not to get sunburned and I reapply sunblock several times while in the sun. Make sure you check yourself and your children for any changes in their skin. They don't always look like what was shown today.
Thank you so much for the very informative show today.I have been putting off a colonoscpy for years because of the fear of the prep.test.Having seen a few of my realtivesdie with coloncancer still has not motivated to go thru with the test. Why can't get over this horrible fear I have? Jerry.
I WATCHED THE SHOW THOROUGHLY ABOUT INTERVENTION. I HAVE NOT BEEN TO THE DOCTOR IN A VERY LONG, LONG TIME. I DO FEEL GREAT MOST OF THE TIME, BUT WHO KNOWS WHAT MIGHT BE GOING ON INSIDE MY BODY. I FEEL IF DR. OZ HELD MY HAND IN GOING TO THE DOCTOR FOR JUST AN OVERALL PHYSICAL, I DO THINK THAT I MIGHT DO IT. MY MOTTO HAS ALWAYS BEEN, IF IT DOESN'T HURT, DO BOTHER IT, IF IT ISN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT!
Oprah,
Just getting into the house, I found some of your stories interesting. I am 43 yo but most people see me in my late 20's. This is a problem because I don't get taken seriously at times or I get dumped eventhough I am the same age but look so young. Why do I look so young? I lived in Alaska for over 30 years and I believe the sunlight contains less UV-A, UV-B rays and red-ray spectrum. I am trying to get exposure to the sun here in Florida so I can look older but in 6 years I am up to 15 minutes exposure.
Then the "Trouble Breathing" story: I relate to the story because I have gained 66 pounds in 8 months. I am starting to have breathing problems. I am sure I am on the road to diebetic and hyper tensive. Which is leading to an enlarged heart the company doctor found--that was the extent of the conversation. I could tell she was stressed with having an Alaskan Native who might die on her 'watch.' She tried explaining that I might have thyroid problem and she is worried but I told her with the Health Care that it is ... I am not able to find a doctor because of the co-pay and following expenses.
I called my mother in Alaska and she is afraid that she might loose her only son who lives 5k+ miles away after she just lost her husband in September, 2001.
Enjoy,
Rusty from Alaska
