Oh my word, is Suzy Ormon real? How can she speak to that poor couple from Palatine, IL. who simply called to get advice? She made them feel so stupid and look so stupid. They are trying to be responsible and ask questions but after berating of them and their lack of knowledge about their mutual fund, she makes it clear that she is far superior to we plebeans who kow nothing about our own money . Could she have been any more condescending? I would never buy her book or seek her advice if she treated me that way. SHe should be ashamed of herself and the way she spoke to those poor people. In the end, I think she embarassed herself in front of the audience by putting those people down. Ma

Maggie, You are exactly right! I often feel that Suze Orman talks down to people...I thought it was just me...Maybe it's a lesbian thing? ![]()
I agree with you, she was pretty harsh but I'm more concerned about what she said about those mutual funds! We have American funds through a broker. What exactly did she say, I was listening while taking care of my baby but I thought she said basically your broker is taking most of the profit and the other percent profit you make goes to an annual fee. Is that what she said? I want to get it straight before I call our financial guy!
I'm a 30 year old single person and have been putting money away in an EFT (Exchange-Traded Funds). Suzy talks about diversifying your portfolio and am wondering if this is a good option to do? Does anyone have any comments about EFTs? I signed up with the EFTs through my credit union thinking this would be a good savings option. I have the option of trading but am nervous doing it; i've never traded before.
Hi - I'm "that poor woman from Palatine"! It's OK - we didn't expect anything less from her - she's Suze and that's alright. However, SHE WAS WRONG. She did her homework - but she got an "F" - well, maybe a "D." American offers different classes of funds - we have Class C funds - we PAYED NO UP FRONT COSTS when we purchased those funds. We are only subject to a 1% yearly managment fee - so, Suze was wrong - we did not "give away" almost 6% of our investment. We did do our homework - we have a highly qualified financial advisor at Chase Bank and based our investment decisions based on the research provided to us. The question posed to Suze was - do we stay in, or do we cut our losses and get out - nothing else.

PAGING MS. ORMAN TO THE WHITE PHONE, MS. ORMAN PLEASE ANSWER THE WHITE PHONE
Trust me, I (more than) know about all-caps as yelling.
I could probably mute the TV and still hear her.
Now, Ms. Orman, should you have access to individual messages, there's one thing beyond yelling:
$ave $ave $AVE. inve$t. Inve$t, INVE$T
I'm not trying to restrict the answers or arsenal of answers.
Right or wrong, the intentions of the money passed around to spend it and inject it into the economy.
Perhaps how something as an alternative would be more beneficial to the public at large.

gotcha! I'm going to check to see what class we have. Thank you. You would think that Suze would get the questions beforehand to figure out exactly what your situation is and thoroughly understand your question/concern before making a big to do on national tv about your finances!
I couldn't agree more, the more I see/listen to Suze O. the more I dislike her ways and thus avoid her with regard to giving people advice. She is mean and belittling to every person I hear her try to "help" (even if she attempts to use kind words, "My dear Aimee..."). We all take responsibility for where we land, financially. We hope she can help redirect us, not make us feel like junk! She is not a "we" - no matter what happened to her back in '87. Honestly as good as she is, Oprah is not a "we" either, maybe she was once but not anymore so I don't know why she talks like a "we" having financial difficulties/issues.
I would just like to say. I think it is because of the oil companies. With thier 40 Billion dollar profits per quarter while the gasoline prices are going up to $4.00 a gallon. These prices effect everything that the poor and middle class people rely on. Food delivery, going to work, picking their kids up from school, sports, work, heating their homes. I find it hard to believe no one thinks it has anything to do with the oil prices. If you look back, this is when all this began. Am I crazy or does anyone else see this???
I just wanted to thank Oprah for stating that a car is a mode of transportation and not part of a person. It is great to hear someone who is so influencial to say something like that. Wiith the way the econmy is today and the use of such large vehicles in the United States we could all use a reality check.
Thanks for all the positive messages.
I am reading and watching the New World - what a great message.
Thanks
KayAnne
What do you do if you have already taken money out of your 401k? I'm 54 and I had a Financial Emergency...I had no other recourse. Now what do I do? I took out over $5000.00. I owe taxes on it right now...but what do I do to recover? Can I recover?
Just turned on the show. My question is about foreclosure. I've been on disability for 2 years because of leukemia. I had to close my practice and haven't worked in that time. I've been getting disability but it's not enough to cover all the bills so I've been using credit cards. I have about 17k on them now. My house has been for sale for 6 months but no offers. Should I keep using the credit cards to make up the difference - I only use them for prescriptions, food and gas. Or should I let the house go to foreclosure?
I am so tired of watching Suze Orman, with her obviously professionally whitened teeth, her professionally done hair, her expensive clothes and her superior attitude talk to everyone else about "saving." My husband and I work a total of four jobs, one for a utility company, and we are not big spenders. We would like to be able to treat ourselves every now and then to a nice dinner out or a weekend of fun with our children and grandchildren. The idea that everyone must live like paupers to be fiscally responsible is ridiculous. There has to be some joy in life and most "joy" does have some financial cost. I want Suze Orman to share the cost of her personal upkeep, clothes, makeup, hair, the works, and then explain how that is financially responsible. She is as much of a phony as all the other so-called television financial advisors. orienne
During the last recession I transfered all my Mutual Funds into a Money account.
Thereby keeping my principal from going down with the stock market
That worked for me then
Is it a good idea for me to do that again now
