The recipe is the one called 'Turkey Meatloaf'. If you do a search for meatloaf recipe on her site, it will come up. I think so many people are confused because they never mentioned that it was ground turkey, not ground beef. Thus the reason Oprah tried it, also!

I have the show on TIVO, because I was hoping to see an interview with Billy, not a promotion for another cookbook or for Nate, I love cooking, and I love Nate, but the show was suppose to be about Billy :(. Anyway, franquie, she did not say anything on the show about it being ground turkey, she says 2lbs of ground beef, maybe on her website. So did Oprah eat beef or turkey?

Katie's recipe is so basic that it goes back to my grandmother's time. Somewhere out there is a book that's called 100 meat loaf recipes.(or close to that wording) Now THAT is the book for meat loaf lovers.

The recipe is not new or innovative. There is a web-site devoted to 100+ "old" meatloaf recipes. Sadly, Billy Joel looked uncomfortable and has not aged well. He is a legend and an exceptional talent. Katie tries too hard and wants to make her mark unfortunately through her husbands notoriety. Her continual references to my house, my life, is immaturity and new found wealth. The reason they were on Oprah was simply to promote her new cookbook, and being a gentleman, Billy complied. Time will tell if they stand the test of time, however, with all trophy wives, how much can you purchase before you wake up and realize your with an old man who you have little in common.

Right - it was Katie Joel's meatloaf recipe that won over Billy Joel, and not the fact that she is young, nubile and 20 years his junior. Guess there are no dateable women over 30 or 40 out there who can cook meatloaf....Happened to catch Katie Joel making her chili recipe on the Today Show: put a pound or 2 of 80% lean (which means 20% SATURATED FAT) into a slow cooker, add the rest of the ingrdients and turn on high for a few hours. Nothing like meat that turns grey as it cooks in its own fat. (I could feel my arteries hardening just watching that show! Would like Dr Oz's perspective on this recipe....) BTW - ladies, you can probably find Katie Joel's recipe in the 'Joy of Cooking' or any other classic cookbook - do you really think she has re-invented the wheel here??

Love your show, Oprah but am getting a little sick and tired of guests like Jennifer Seinfeld (or Mrs Whine-feld as my retail friends in NY call her) coming on to promote cookbooks that no self-respecting book editor would look at if their husbands weren't so famous. How spoiled are your children that you can't get them to eat their dinners? How any of us have time to make separate meals for ourselves and our children? How crazy is that? What kind of message does that send them: that Mom is at their beck and call and they are the ones in control? It's a control issue and has nothing to do with their developing tastebuds. My 3-yr-old son tried the 'I don't like this' stunt on me ONCE. I happen to be a very good cook, and so I told him that if didn't want to eat his dinner, he could go upstairs to bed without supper (it's not as tho' I ever fed him liver & onions). I didn't yell, coax or bribe, just told him what the consequences were in a calm voice. A child is not going starve if he/she misses one meal. Amazing how the next day he ate a good breakfast and we never had an issue over eating ever again. In fact, we always brought our son to ethic restaurants a) because they are family-friendly and b) I wanted him to learn to like all kinds of different food. From a very early age he learned how to behave properly in a restaurant. When we took him to Venice when he was 5, he was so polite to the wait staff that they would bring him out the biggest bowl of gelato for dessert that you have ever seen!

If y'all ask nicely I'll pass along an amazing meatloaf recipe I found - you add spiced sausage to the mix. Have also tried one that uses ground pork and veal as well. Katie Joel's recipe brings back 7th grade Home EC - anyone else over 40 have a similar flashback??

Thank you for saying it so eloquently. I was just stupefied thinking 'Oprah, you change lives daily & move the Earth, why are you promoting this nouveau riche & her sad-looking granddaddy?' I knew how to make meatloaf by the time I was probably 9-10. And she was so proud of herself! Oprah, please!
