Say, as an example, Jessica was writing a term paper or a thesis and handed in her work --- the book, Deceptively Delicious. SHE WOULD FAIL BECAUSE THE BOOK ALREADY EXISTS (the real chef's book The Sneaky Chef) AND JESSICA SEINFELD DID NOT CREDIT THE CREATOR OF THE PUREE METHOD IN HER BOOK, MISSY LAPINE! THE RECIPES ARE IDENTICAL! ![]()
Oprah's audience does not like to be lied to. This IS deceptive and disturbing. Mostly because our hero, Oprah, symbol of all things good and honest in the world, is supporting this deception...:-( What and who can we trust anymore? Oprah is better than the Good Housekeeping stamp of approval, and now she has been fooled by this rich comic's wife. Wow.
I haven't seen the original book so I really can't comment on that. What I can say is I like the recipes Jessica Simpson has provided and I'm buying her book. You will, in almost any bookstore find numerous cookbooks on the same subject so even if they both use purees that doesn't mean Jessica Simpson should never be allowed to write a cookbook using purees. What kind of world would we live in if there was only one Italian cookbook allowed or one book on pies and cookies. Sorry - we have a recipe for Peanut Butter Cookies! - That's it. The world will use this one recipe that got to the bookstore first. Ridiculous!
Pat
Pat, I couldn't agree with you more. There are multiple cookbooks and sources for many of the recipes that we use when we cook. Why do we use one recipe or cookbook over the other? There are a myriad of reasons. If you were to compare 10 italian cookbooks side by side, it is likely that the recipes for carbonara or pesto would be identical or largely similar. Yet there would be a few recipes and presentations that were unique to each cookbook. That said, Jessica Seinfeld's cookbook is fun and she deserves the opportunity to garner interest and support for this publication.
That is no excuse. This is more than a cook book, it is a book about a specific, innovative, new method. It is so different that anything else. That is why the SNEAKY CHEF taught classes on the topic in nyc. Then, came the Sneaky Chef book and website. The key, that seems to elude you -- is that it is such a INNOVATIVE NEW METHOD covered in a book. Copy right law! No judge will be swayed by getting a part in a silly cartoon.
You mention that Italian cookbooks are all the same ... Consider this:
Pesto sauces was invented in Genoa hundreds of years ago. It is therefore not covered under the same laws that govern our publishing world. ... Are you starting to catch on?
I've been published in the past including one cookbook (long, long ago) and while individual recipes that are unique can be copywrited an idea such as using purees in cooking can't. It's not that original. So yeah, I'm catching on. Maybe you should too. Thanks Pat
I cannot believe you people are still going on and on about this book being a copy cat. Seriously, I read alot and I have NEVER, before you all started screaming about it, heard about TSC cook book. EVER. You seem so rageful. Can't you channel all that negative energy into something positive?
LAGIRL on another Web site posted: Jessica, Jessica, Jessica. i worked with her in NYC about 10 years ago. i remember the day she came in + announced to all of us that Jerry Seinfeld was checking her out at the gym. what most people don't know, is that this all happened BEFORE she married Eric Nederlander. where do you go from rich? filthy rich + FAMOUS. which is exactly what she did. she is a MASTER GOLDDIGGER. she was figuring out how to hook Jerry while she was planning her wedding to Eric! that poor guy was her stepping stone. she used him to get the nice clothes, the expensive gym membership, the fancy co-op, etc, etc, which gave her entree to Jerry's world. i'm not surprised she put this stupid book out. although i am surprised it took her this long to do it. i figured she'd ride Jerry's coattails sooner or later to get herself in the spotlight. but you must be smoking crack if you think she's actually in the kitchen making all this crappy food herself. anyway, i liked this book better when it was written by Missy Chase Lapine and called "The Sneaky Chef: Simple Strategies for Hiding Healthy Foods in Kids Favorite Meals".
Let's fact it. If Jessica was not Mrs. Jerry Seinfeld, this book would have probably been never published. The idea of "hiding" vegies in recipes has been around for years. Even before The Sneaky Chef cookbook. My mom was doing this over 40 years ago.....I still do it today with certain meals. Look at any cookbook, you will find various recipes that are similar to others. One of Art Smith's recipes featured on Oprah was a lot like one receipt featured in one of the South Beach Cookbooks.
As I said in an earlier post (where I was then accused of being jealous of Mr. and Mrs. Seinfeld....LOL), I am sure Jerry agreed to be on the show with the oh so subtle suggestion that his wife also be given on segment on her book.
You are beating a dead horse.
featuremom - interesting post. I've never had much respect for Jessie Nederlander Seinfeld due to the fact that she married poor Eric, then immediately started dating Jerry. Of course, what does that say about Jerry Seinfeld that he would start dating another man's wife? But now to find out that she had her eyes set on the "prize" even before she married Eric Nederlander well one word comes to mind........golddigger. And yes I thought the same thing when they featured her cooking these meals herself. Yeah right! At least they seem to be happily married.
Featuremom, I remember following the whole Nederlander scandal when it was happening. I was always interested in hearing what people who knew her had to say because it just seemed so classic goldigger in the most calculating way. I've been in her presence a few times while shopping in NYC and she is not exactly too nice to sales associates. Is what we saw on Oprah not her real personality?
I thought the story was that she was his kids nanny and then he left his wife for her? But now that I think about it, I don't know if he had children before her?
Anybody have a problem with $20,000.00 worth of shoes being given to a lady who could probably buy and sell the whole shoe store??? Give me a break. Give the money to people/organizations who need the money, not one of the richest people in the world!!! Don't get me wrong, I really like Jerry Seinfeld, but does he really need more money? After his wife was on the show, we all knew her book would fly off the shelves the next day, and make the Seinfeld's richer.
The shoe gift was VULGAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone with any class would have given a check to OPrah's school for girls in Africa. This shows what a vile human being Jessica S. is!
I have actually purchases Jessica Seinfelds new book and I think it is the greatest thing ever. As for the other cookbooks that are similar they just haven't gotten the publicity as this one has. I use her cookbook at least once a day and I think it is amazing, something so simple can make your like that much easier when it comes to dinner time. I didn't only do it to get my kids to eat their veggies but i did so my husband would too. You know you shouldn't be so critical. Every great idea has at least 100 people who have done it or thought of it, its all on how you market your ideas. We shouldn't have so many negative thoughts circulating in our world. You should really try to channel your negative thoughts into more positive thoughts and feelings, your life will be alot more fulfilled. And FYI If it is so horrible try to go to a book store to purchase the book I can guarantee you will have a hard time finding one on the shelves. I live in Canada and I went to go get the book 2 days after this show aired I had to go to three stores and I got the last one.
