i think if children aren't used to eating something perhaps your idea is best to take one or two tips for the brownie recipe and make it better!
also if you over mix brownie/pancake batter it will naturally become rubbery... i haven't tried this recipe yet but i've been wanting to. i've tried others so far since the show and all of them have been a success with my 4 year old ( who is queen picky) and my 1 year old who isn't picky anyhow.
The dirt he is tasting is the spinach. Don't waste your time making these again. I have made them 3 times and they have turned out gross every time. I used semisweet chocolate and white flour so that can't be your problem. There is NO WAY these are the same brownies Oprah was eating on the show....they don't even look the same. I made the chocolate cake too and you can really taste the beets. The texture isn't good anyway and the frosting is a little bitter (again, it can't be the same cake. It looks totally different). Oh well, it is a great idea, but I think we got our hopes up too high seeing Oprah's reaction to the food. I think the recipes are not necessarily the same as what she served b/c when you click on the mac and cheese recipe to see Jessica cook that, she is using a boxed mac and cheese, not the recipe on the website. Maybe that is the difference...maybe the food on the show was from boxes and not the book, I just wish they had been upfront about that.
I made these brownies with puree that was super smooth and fine and per the messages boards I added some additional chocolate chips into the batter. My whole family loved them, and honestly I made everyone that came over try them and they told me they were good. With the kids I didn't tell them, but the adults I told them what was in them before they tried them and asked for a honest opinion so I'm thinking they were truthful. I guess it's all a taste thing but I thought they were yummy!
