Hi Nate,
I watched the Oprah Show. The country house you re-designed was just simply awesome. I just moved into my own apartment and I am having trouble decorating. I have ideas, but don't know how to execute them. I need your help. Please help.

Hi there.
Like everyone else, I too enjoyed the show. And like everyone I too would love to see Nate come to my house to help me sort it out and make it look like a real home. Well my chances are even less than yours as I live in Canada, so Nate would have to come North lol. Does Nate have a web site? I have a small home. It's 28 ft wide x 22 ft deep. I don't have a very nice bathroom as it's totally done using cushion floor or whatever that is. Yes it's cushionfloor not wall paper. We bought it this way but can't afford to fix it yet. My kitchen is small too and have very high old kitchen cupboards. The end cupboards are round.
What would I do if Nate came to my home. I would cry because I'm a very nervous person when I meet people from tv. I know I met an actor from Another World a long time ago and cried. I couldn't even speak to him. So yes I would cry. Then I would tell him I would like a new kitchen to fit me too (I'm less than 5 ft) My husband is 6'-2" so he can reach everything. I can only reach part of the first shelf but not too deep and the 2nd shelf only what is at the front. I would like a fridge and stove and dishwasher in ss. I would just love one of those kitchen sinks like the one I saw today. I would like cupboards I could reach for once in my life. I would like drawers to put pots and pans in. I would love lighting and my window that I could see out of not just for tall people. I have to climb on a chair to open the window.
As for my bathroom. I would like a new bath with one of those overhead showers. A proper sink and toilet and linen closet.
Ah the dreams.
Well to be very honest, I watch a lot of decorating shows and have never seen a small house done up. It seems most shows do big homes. How about doing a small home. I have a basement too that could use some help.
Oh in my kitchen I would love to have washer and dryer. I have fybromyalgia and have a lot of problems with the stairs. Well in the cold winter time, I have a lot of problems getting around period. So that would be another dream for me.
Anyways, this is what I would do if Nate came to my house. There are great decorating people here too, but they stick around Toronto and area only, so that leaves me out lol. Now I live in Canada so that makes this even further
Well to everyone have a great night and day tomorrow.
Hey Oprah If you're reading this Keep up the good work - love your show and say hi to Canada when you get a chance. Makes me feel happy when you mention some of us not in the US. thanks
Francine
I just have 1 question. When can you be here Nate!!!!!! My husband has so much pride in this house that he
built with his own hands. But we have so many unfinished things that we can't even get our home refinanced.
He is so discouraged right now because we can't really afford to pay labor to have it finished. He lost an 18 year
job about 6 years ago, and we have had to start from the bottom again. He also had knee surgery last year so that
put finishing things to our house on the back burner as well. We have a unique all wood home outside is log siding inside
is cedar and pine and you won't believe this,I have 1 closet. 1 CLOSET IN THE WHOLE HOUSE!!!!!!!! I would not know what
to think if I had my own closet. Also, I stink at decorating. I really need all kinds of help. So Nate, please come to MY House.
Thanks,
Amy Marshall,Irvine,Ky
Well, first thing I would have to do if Nate showed up at my door is call my mother from next door she is a *huge* fan, then, I would have to decide which of the horrible rooms I could send him in to fix. The downstairs bath is 1950 tub and sink which have been refinished in blue, pink and brown....all of which you can see in some places. Then there is the upstairs bath that is a complete waste of space, the living room that looks like we moved in yesterday instead of 8 months ago or our bedroom that has a whole in the wall where the door used to be, no paint and the worst chandilier I have ever seen in my life. Trust me, if Nate turned up on my doorstep, I would never let him go!!!!!
Watched the show and just loved what Nate did to that old 60's kitchen. It was just wonderful. I looked up the suppliers and couldn't find the suppliers for the counter tops. My home was built in 1978 and this is exactly how I would like to remodle my kitchen. GREAT job Nate what a wonderful transformation!!!
Very nice transformations- but does good style mean California Spanish or Moracan? "Country" is not my style but gosh- a whole lot of people live in the countryside of America. I would like to see how Nate would celebrate surroundings of an American (not French or Italian) country life in his designs. Cows, chickens, dried flowers and all!
I've been reading all the messages and it seems like some people are bitter that Nate would never come to THEIR house. Here are some suggestions: 1) Buy his book or get it out of the library. It's great and it's filled with inspirational tips. 2) If you have special needs or a special needs child, contact your local high school or community college carpentry program. Oprah isn't the only one fulfilling housing needs! 3) Listen to the tips on the show! People who write that they don't know where to begin don't seem to watch the show. Nate gives at least 10 minutes of tips on EVERY show! All are inexpensive. Good luck! I freshened up my living room for less than $100. Paint, posters on eBay, pillows from a church sale, cool vacation photos copied on my home copier.
while i enjoy watching these improvements, i know that nate would never come to my house since it is not a humongus home like the ones i have watched being redone. I live in a very small cape cod type home and my kitchen is very small...and my bathroom is soooooo small....something like this i do beleive cannot be redone...but, am glad that others have an opportunity to have their dream with nate.
I find it very strange that the rerun of this show brought up a faint memory. So I researched and found that Tonya and Keith the couple with the kitchen redo, have had another show where they also had a kitchen redo. On HGTV they did a show with Kenneth Brown reDesign and complained of the same thing, their kitchen needed to be brough out of the dark ages. Well, what happened to that house with the wonderful kitchen Mr. Brown designed and built. Are these people flipping houses? How could you be on one show and get a beautiful kitchen, then be on another show saying the same thing with a different kitchen in a different house. What gives? Its very strange that they keep showing up on these tv shows with different kitchens that need to be redesigned?
Hello dimmzy, I wanted to reply to your post because I agree with you on what you have mentioned. After I read a couple of post's that are saturated with bitterness because Nate WILL NEVER come to their home, or that it seems like all the wealthier people seem to receive the makeover's, I quickly go to the next post. I do have empathy for all the folk's that have the challenge's they speak of, but you are right, we can all make a small change's in our home's for very little. ![]()
I always listen to Nate's tip's that he includes for us all in the segment of the show. I do have his book "Home Rules" as well. I don't always use all the tip's he has offered to us all, but the one's I used have certainly made a huge difference not only in within my home, but within me as well. I have such a W-O-N-D-E-R-F-U-L time with myself, and the moment when I simply light fragrant candle's in my home. I also have purchased a few toss pillow's that not only make any sofa, or chair have more character, but they also feel good to the body when you arrange them around yourself. Even small inexpensive changes do make a difference in many ways I feel. ![]()
We all have our own *story* about our home's, many of the same no doubt. First, and foremost, I am very grateful for what I have, and I will continue to always work on making change's to my home when I find that it can be done within reason, and within my finances. ![]()
Thank you for helping other's with the advice you gave, and I hope they will take it to good use. ![]()
Great show...thank you Oprah, and Nate! ![]()
Take care out there! ![]()

I can afford to buy my own paint but i need Nate's help making a decision on a color! My living room is white and it is rectangular. My brand new furniature is a bright red and I love my art and most of my accessories but I do have one of those 70's brick fireplaces I am scared to paint on my own but don't object to having it painted. I would love for the room to look bigger and thought white would do it but it looks so boring and unfinished. I hate the mantel also. Anyone have any ideas? I would never ask for it to be paid for because it wouldn't be more than I could afford and I would really feel wierd getting something like that for free.
