Will someone who has read this book please explain to me Why Eckert only uses "parts" of other religions?

In all fairness you have been quoting scripture and yes, attacking others for using a little "g" instead of a capital "G" for God. What do you really want from us? I do thank you for praying for Oprah as I said before that is a gift of love. I hope you find the answers you are looking for.

I cannot speak for Tolle, but as I see it:

There are phrases, thoughts that in their purity, emphasis the message. Why would Tolle repeat EVERYTHING that has ever been written in every religion to make his point? In fact, that would go AGAINST the message. If you are a student of history, a student of philosphy, you may realize that interpretation has been diluted, corrupted ... "lost in translation".

I believe Jesus was a prophet, that Buddha was a prophet, that many of us are prophets, in a sense. If you feel the need to abide word-for-word by others, than perhaps you are not ready for this particular message. I feel the message of this book, and I am not evil! I am merely open ... and open includes all the goods things of all religions and rejects all the silly man-made things and rules that have become of relgion. I do not reject making the selfless choice. I do not reject seeking the goodness within me that is God. I simply listen closely. I have confidence in the spirit within. I don't need someone else's rules.

Looks like no ones "ego" is prepared to answer this question.

My apologies. I actually have a very deep respect for all religions. I wish I could give you the answer you seek. I am open to most teachings but I must admit I do get defensive when I feel controlled. That is about me not you or anyone else. I think that part of the message in this book. Perhaps I try to control more than I should in fact I know I do often subconsciously. God loves us all that I know and he will lead us where we belong for he is all loving. Bless you & all of us!

Eckhart Tolle uses examples from many different traditions - Buddhism, Taoism, Christianity - but he also quotes books. Do you want him to quote the whole book?

You really need to clarify what your question, or provide an example from the book.

I did not take offense at all. I thank you because we started out differently but deep inside we are all the same. I really appreciate you writing back to me. Stay true to you even if it is different from what we (or most of us) on this board believe. Did you feel the kindness from this discussion you posted? Was it different from your past experience? Ok Linda, I will attempt to answer your question. But I doubt you will accept it. By the sound of things, you are who you are and you believe what you believe, and you're not ready to accept anything else at this moment.

Tolle picks certain things from different religions because they are what he believes are Truth. When all ancient traditions/religions are examined, you will find that there are many more similarities then differences... love, acceptance, joy, being.... those types of things. He is simply pointing those things out and presenting the similarities.

The core of all these teachings are the same. It is when doctrine, dogmas and ideologies (created by man) is added to this Truth that religion is birthed. Throughout the ages religion has divided the masses instead of inclusion (as confirmed by your and other "religious" persons responses).

I cannot speak for everyone, only for myself. I am not a Tolley, I am not a Christian, or Muslim, or Buddhist, etc. ... I am.
I respect all of the traditions and have an understanding that the intention of each is to alleviate the suffering of man kind. There is no right or wrong, only IS. Before any of these religions, there was God, there was man... man created religion and attempted to create God. For a long time, mankind fell into this ideology.

Now things are changing. There is HUGE collective gathering in the world who no longer wants to put their limitations on God. We want to just experience God as is... no fancy labels attached. That is all we're seeking. We want to experience the fullness of life and to create change in the world. .... Why do you persecute us so? I was raised in the Church and I know the teachings of Jesus... the core. And what he taught, you Linda are not demonstrating. .... Ask yourself- What would Jesus do? .... I doubt he rant, rave and condemn the way you have.

Whether Eckhart quotes from a religion or not does not validate or invalidate a religion. Most of the people who follow organised religion do not understand the source of the words and tend to take them literally. He uses some parts of the religious literature so as to bring it as close to the person reading it as possible and to assure the reader that what he is talking about is not different from religious literature while it may be different from the popular interpretation of what was written. Finally, you are the judge. I feel there must be a common thread linking all religions otherwise all of them are false and to the extent Echart can do so, it is a validation of all religions provided the true meaning is understood.

Instead of asking about Eckhart and he's teachings, maybe you should be asking yourself ....What has he done to you and be at peace with your answer so this whole thing won't eat you up with frustration and having to be wright.
