This is not a Biblical teaching!

Posted on Mar 4, 2008

I would like to remind people that to be a true follower of Jesus Christ you have to follow his teachings. Those that deny them are not Christians. Oprah and Tolle are spreading unchristian beliefs even thought she claims to be a Christian. At the beginning of the show she answered a question from a Christian lady and told her that Jesus Christ wasn't the only way to God. Lets take a look at what the Bible says: First Timothy chapter 2, verse 5.... For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. (Did you see any other mediator mentioned besides Christ Jesus)? Lets put Oprah and Tolle's "it" in its place and see how it fits. For there is one God and one "it" between God and men, the men Jesus Christ, Budda, etc. etc. etc. Do you get my drift? It just doesn't fit. I'm sure Billy Graham, Charles Stanley and other great faith believing Christians don't need to get 'it" for they already have had it and this is it. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. (No Other has ever died and taken away my sins) Try the Bible it will change your life,

Correct. This is not a biblical teaching. It does not claim to be a biblical teaching, nor is it an anti-biblical teaching. I see the book, the web casts and these posts as avenues of exploring our spiritual selves in a conscious way, whereby one can make a conscious contact with the God of our own understanding, dogma aside. Cheers......

I haven't read all these posts yet, so I'm just responding to this title, when one finds the truth within themself, direct experience, then you will know that what Tolle is talking about is what Jesus was talking about This is not about 'Beliefs' this is about truth. Religion is on its way out, and a new age is dawning One of the big obstacles to peace in the world is religion, beliefs, dogma, all one needs is a willingness to look at what you were taught all your life and question, never be afraid to question ! If its true it will withstand all questions See things for youself !

With all due respect, this was not supposed to be a Bible Class nor a Christian sermon, or even a religious study, it goes much deeper than that. And again, with respect, as a former church goer who has left the organized church system in favor of being somewhat like John the Baptist (going out into the wilderness alone), I have to say that when you have certain mental paradigms that men have given you as your guide to what the Bible "says", of course this wont' line up....with YOUR understanding of, and interpretation, of what you think the bible means.

Actually, it DOES square with the Bible in a large portion of what is being taught. You have to look into the spiritual meaning of the words and not just the surface.

Again, my observations only, everyone is entitled to make the journey in their own way, at their own pace, in their own time.

Blessings

You know your Bible quotes well, but how do you know all your church's interpretations of scripture are correct. Maybe there are some things that Jesus said that we are not understandingn completely. Remember, Christianity was created many years after Christ's death. Terry CA

I do not follow any formal religion - I've read too much to know that all religions are skewed by mans individual views and no one religion has the answers. Your message of "this is not Biblical teaching" actually made me sad. Are you aware that the Bible is a censored book? Google "council of Nicea" and read what it says. The Emperor Constatine (who was Pagan, by the way) saw the way things were changing and that Christianity was becoming a force, and he knew his days would be numbered if he didn't at least "show" he was a Christian. He formed the Council of Nicea" and the members voted on which books were included in the Bible. He also kept many of the important Pagan days and just converted them to religious holidays, thus making both Christians and Pagans happy. Hundreds of Gospels were voted "out", ie The Gospel of Thomas, The Gospel of Isaiah, The Gospel of MaryMagdelene and on and on and on ............... These Gospels carried wonderful messages but were deemed to hold "Too much information". The Gospel of Isaiah, contains the basic premise for The Secret. It says that prayer needs to contain, thought, feeling and emotion to succeed. The Bible is a wonderful book, but humanity is not getting the whole picture. The church has kept so much information buried that I prefer to learn things on my own. I don't care for religion, but Theology fascinates me. So, before you condemn Oprah for not taking the Bible literally, you have to understand it's limitations. Tolle gives interpretations for passages in the Bible that now make much more sense to me. This is exactly what humanity needs - to open our eyes to a new way of living, by enlightenment. BRAVO OPRAH AND ECKHART!!!!!

Rose ...

You're right and it is not intended to be ...

but I would point out that after having a biblical President for the last 8 years, my perception is that the world and our relationship to it is a mess ... the worst that I have experienced in a long time ...

A New Earth (ANE) is intended to enhance the individual spirituality for its reader, and increase the collective consciousness about the new earth. The increase in spiritual practice and consciousness is not restricted to just Christians ... it can also be experienced by Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus, Atheists, etc. Tolle does not discriminate.

I have experienced the shift in consciousness that Tolle and Oprah have described. As a result, I am going to continue to read ANE.

I was brought up in a Christian home with Christian values. I always thought I was a good person that believed in God and the scripture. One thing we have to remember is that the Bible we read today is not always God's word but a translation of that word. Just as no one religion has the market on God. This book brought me to a realization, an awakening that I never knew was possible. No preacher ever gave me that. Once I started reading A New Earth it got me thinking. I too felt it was very unfamiliar territory and so opened up my Bible for the first time in, I couldn't say, how many years. It was as if I was reading it for the very first time!! As if God was saying, "Finally, my child, I don't just live around you, I live in you". Jesus has found a dwelling place. If he had to use Eckhart Tolle or Oprah Winfrey to get that through to me then so be it. I believe everything happens for a reason and that I didn't just happen to see Oprah the day she was talking about this class. God opens doors, all we need to do is be willing to walk through. To say that God didn't use teachers and prophets to show people the way to Him would be to deny the works of Paul, John The Baptist and people such as Billy Graham today.

The wisdom from God to discern what is Truth is the real blessing of this book. Every scripture I read now is felt in my heart not just thought in my head. It was worth every drop of copper in every penny that I had to pay for it... I have read it at least 5 times and each time there is a scripture that is brought to my mind that I had forgotten years ago.

Thats right!!! I could not agreemore!!! I have tried to express this but they are deleting posts unless we sound robotic like the rest of people here. If you mention that using the name of Jesus this way is totally inconsistent... they delete it. Jesus is GOD, use His teachings taking into account He also taught no one goes to GOD unless through HIM. He also said HE, JESUS is the way, the TRUTH and the LIGHT. And GOD. Why tech Him but remove the most important reason He came to earth? To save and redemm man kind and give us eternal life!!! Read His book, why let a mere man, Eckhart, filter the truth. Go to the source, the Bible!!!

Jesus is God and this book is portraying Jesus as a mere man. God came to earth as aman, Jesus. Can't take this out of context. Can't separate THE creator and His teachings from the fact that He is God. Can't separate the fact that Jesus is God from Jesus tecahings. Because if you do, Jesus teachings are just like Eckhart. Eckhart is a man. Jesus is God, a living God.

The Bible also teaches us to go and make disciples of all nations. Not to change the Word of God as we please, to our liking. I am not afraid because my faith will not change at all, I go to an awsome church with awsome services on Tuesdays and Sundays. To be like a child learning about God is beautiful, to write a book saying God is not God, is not smart. But its his prerrogative. Eckharts. Christians are not scared, we are stunned at so much inconsistency.

Jesus is God, Jesus is spiritual. It is so sad that people are separating Jesus from spirituality and connecting Him with religion. Jesus is not religion, He is God. If you read scriptures and pray and meditate in it, you will find the most awsome awakening and your life will be spiritual in the best and the real way God, Jesus, intended. Jesus is NOT a a product of religioun. He was sent by God, as ONE with GOD to save the world. So that is what the Bible teaches. This is the teaching in the Bible. JESUS=GOD. If you take teachings from the Bible, and study Jesus' teachings, consider this one. Because its only through this one that we all have eternal life at the end. Spirituality=Jesus. Don't be deceived by some churches, there are awsome non denominatonal churches where we hav the most amazing spiritual ives and fellowshio with each other, with God, and God works in amazing ways. It would be apitty to separate Jesus from spirituality, and label Him with religuon. He is the creator. Thats what the Bible teaches, its what He teaches. Why study Him and His word in any way other than spiritual? Why Eckhart quotes Him, the Bible, but takes away the teachings that Jesus is spiritual, the Bible is spiritual, Jesus is God. These are the most important teachings. The cross of Christ, salvation and eternal life! Its why Jesus came, its what He was teaching. This book is inconsistent.

WE are here and will stay here because you are using Jesus Christs teachings, The Bible, thats why. Use someone else then. Base your thoughts and inspirations on something else. If you use the Bible and teachigs of Jesus, know that He is God, its what the Bible teaches. This book is using Jesus, His teachings, in a very inconsistent way. Jesus taught that He is God He is a living spiritual God.Teach THIS. Jesus also taught that no one goes to the Father apart from HIM. He is GOd
Father, SON, Holy Spirit
SPIRIT, its very spiritual. Eckhart is saying Jesus is religion, and he, Eckhart is tecahing Jesus in a spiritual way. Go to the Bible and see for yourselves. Jesus is spiritual, the Bible is spiritual. Get your inspirations there, with TRUTH, not inconsistent, twisted words for your own liking and convenience. It is a problem to use the name of God this way. You are learning Jesus teachings from Ekchart, and missing out on the most important points.
He is God He saves HE heals HE delivers, He, JESUS gives eternal life.
You only get to the Father through HIM, Jesus. If you accept Him as Lord and saviour.
God is= Father, SON, Holy Spirit according to the Bible. If you quote Jesus and the Bible, be consistent. The Bible says
JESUS = FATHER, SON, HOLY SPIRIT.
JESUS IS GOD LIKE THE FATHER, LIKE THE HOLY SPIRIT. THEY ARE ONE, CANNOT BE SEPARATED
We are here because we believe this, this book, the Bible and its teachings. And it is being twisted, and it is the book that gave us the most amazing AHA moment in our lives. I hope you understand this.
