Why isn't Dr. Oz talking about certain foods for certain blood types? Not all food is good for all blood types. I am a type A and dairy products are bad for me as well as red meat. Type O's are the meat eaters! With the 4 blood types, each type excells with different foods and gains weight with others. I also researched tomatoes, they are toxic for type A but for type O, they help alot! Dr. Oz says on the show to eat tomato paste....I guess only if you are a type O.
I found a book a month ago called "eat 4 your blood type" check it out! I ate for my blood type for 4 weeks and have lost 20 pounds. I am not starving and I feel great. I was 310 pounds and down so far to 290. I wish Dr. Oz would check this out and tell others.
I am a vegan (no meat or dairy) and have read a lot about the ability to absorb more calcium as a function of obtaining my calcium from non dairy sources. This was something I learned from reading books by John Robbins. Why isn't this something Dr. Oz would mention when he talks about calcium linking with fat in your body? Just curious....
I would like to know if drinking lots (and I mean LOTS) of coffee is bad for a person? I drink probably more than 10 cups a day. Unfortunately, I also use 1/2 pack of splenda and skim milk with my coffee.
I watched the first part of today's show with the basket of food. I live in Northern NJ and do you know what a pint of straw cost about $5, 4 ozs of blueberry's ~$3, walnuts ~ $6/lb. Don't get me started on the cost of a lb. of Salmon $7.95/lb and up, I could go on, but the point I am making how does a lower income family afford these items for themselves and their children. They can't.
While traveling on business, I went into a grocery store in Columbia, MD and they were selling 3 (three) oranges for $5. How are people suppose to purchase these "healthy" products when they are becoming a luxury?
This is a show Oprah should do on the ridiculous cost of food. This is why people are digging into dumpsters for their food. I figure I should start eating dog food now, so I can get use to the taste when I retire. It will be the only food I can afford and probably have less preservatives and additives than human food!!!
Most will read your response to today's show and think, "this is an angry person". Yes, food is expensive...and it's not getting any cheaper. But anger solves no problems. You have to make choices. Maybe you don't buy the blueberries this month...maybe it's another fruit. But being angry because you feel everything they proposed is out of reach financially it not reasonable.
Fiber! I know 35 grams is required, but is that the minimum? If I eat a slice of pizza does, that mean I have to eat extra fiber to compensate for the cheese? Some foods are constipating, would they all require eating more fiber or is 35 grams enough no matter what you eat? Any help would be appreciated!!

Not one mention of organic foods on the show today. What is their food source for the Bestlife product? Corporate farms in Central and South America that spray massive amounts of pesticides? You can loose weight with this diet, but really loose weight with chemo. As a fisherman in Alaska, I am also appalled, and I wrote this same message to Oprah nearly six years ago regarding the fad of the time, regarding eating Salmon, the facts are: 1. Farmed Salmon does not contain the Omegas that Wild Salmon does. 2. Buyers of these fish use a color wheel similar to one at the paint store and choose a color to dye the meat to look like real salmon. They give this to the fish by means of the pellets they feed them. 3. Also in these pellets are antibiotics the fish need because they live in enclosed pens in their own feces. 4. Fish farms destroy natural habits and have decimated populations of other fish species all over the world. In Chili, fish farms have destroyed traditional fishing livelihoods, communities having no other means are forced to work for next to nothing. Thanks NAFTA. Being a smart, informed shopper can reduce your shopping bill, but it just takes more thought which seems to have been lost in this world of fad diets. You don't need someone else who is more interested in making a buck to make your food to loose weight. The Eat Right for You Blood Type is a very good book. So are the Moosewood cookbooks that have been around for decades.
apollnow, great post and thank you for writing it. I have a red food dye alergy, nothing major but I know it's there. I first figured it out from candy (my health food of choice
), and then was able to actually break it down to when I was eating a popsicle. Now who would think blue popsicles have the same red food dye in them? Guess what my young son has the same alergy. Watch what happens with certain pasta sauces. However ketchup is fine. Red Meat....ack it's like rolling the dice.
See the problem is I really have no idea which red food dye I am alergic too, as I don't think it's all of them. Of course there are all kinds of red food dyes, and the Canadian Government doesn't require the actuall red food dye # to appear on the label.
Now again my son and I are fortunate....his face immediately turns bright red, right where he would grow a beard. Me, well my tongue swells up and doesn't feel like it fits in my mouth.
So back to your post, people are diluted to thinking salmon is so good for you. I believe I watched a show by David Suzeki (not sure if you know this Canadian), who stated there was no real Wild Salmon left, is this true?
For the woman who wrote about the cost. I agree wholeheartedly. I have 4 teenage boys to feed and I live in Canada whereby food prices are ridiculous, nevermind the tax we add on top of it. I try desparately to cook from scratch and avoid box food. Fresh fruit, vegetables, especially out of season are either rotten or extremely expensive. Watching Oprah 'snack' on blueberries, each and every time she does it, I cringe.
I really do appreciate the platform to which Oprah has provided to inform me, however there are moments where she is completely out of touch with her audience and this is a classic example.

Ok...here's how to take care of the constipation problem. Since we need magnesium to metabolize calcium, you can take between one teaspoon to one tablespoon of epsom salts (mix it with Crystal Lite) to help you take care of the problem. I use a little every evening which helps me sleep and stay regular all at the same time.
Thanks Dulcette. As to the person who said I was angry, I don't know what he/she is talking about. I am stating facts. I through the grace of God, have a good job and can afford to purchase these items. I don't have children to feed, cloth and shelter. How many items in that basket can be purchased in the winter at reasonable prices. The other party mentioned buying one item one week and another the next week. I had the feeling you were suppose to eat those fruits and vegetables on a "*daily" basis*. It is a shame that we waste so much food in this country, while families can't afford the basics. Instead, people purchase vitamins to replace the nutrients found in every day table foods. It's facts....not anger
I dont understand if Bob Greene is all about health why does he recommend yoplait yogurt as one of the "best for life" foods to eat when it has high fructose? Wouldn't that hurt a person if they have diabetes?
