I agree with you 100%. She did not even "remember" some of the things she supposedly wrote.

Hi Kay, Have you read the book, A New Earth Yet? It is a very mind opening book, to say the least! I have been learning about my ego and what a downfall it has been in my life. I am working on my ego now and learning not to pass judgement upon other's. I have learned that what we see in other's is what we are. I saw Val as being a very honest person with herself. I did not see her as screaming for attention, but opening up and sharing so that perhaps other's will learn to do the same. Thank you Val, for coming out of the glass house! Blessings to all! Lynn

Hello my friend,

I live very simple, frugal life and have actually lost 40 pounds now since October of 2007. I do not even cook, have meals delivered or have a personal trainer. I eat as much as I want to on a daily basis. How do I do it? I have a raw food lifestyle. I first learned about the lifestyle by reading an article about Carol Alt, the model. Carol is a raw foodist and lost weight and turned her entire wellbeing around by practicing this lifestyle. Not only has my weight fallen off with no effort, but my entire outlook on life has new meaning. I have become so much more spiritual and feel so much compassion for the universe. My eye's, the window to my soul, are seeing the simple things that I never noticed before. I am living in the moment. I am a true believer that life=life and dead=dead. Living food has literally made me Alive! What do I eat on a daily basis? Anything that God has given us to grow, but uncooked and right out of the ground or off from a tree. I even invested in a few raw food cookbooks and joined a raw food support site online. I now even go to a monthly raw food potluck in the area. So I hope this helps you:-) Visualize yourself being well and it will happen! Believe! Hugs and Blessings to all! Lynn

OH MY GOSH! Did Bertinell even write that book? She didn't know anything that Oprah was asking? She didn't expand on the details. This was one of the worst interviews I've seen. Definitely NOT the interviewers fault. I'm sure if the producers knew she didn't write the book (or even read it for that matter). They could of filled it with a tour of her home, having her son, live from his tour, speak about what a terrific mom she is. How did she meet her new guy? What is she working on now? What's next? Bertinelli looks fantastic and always has. She's picked roles that were positive and with good character. I want to know who made her wig? LOVED it!! I would of just liked to see more honest answers, I understand the candid and emotional questions are more easily answered with a cute giggle and a curious look: "What are you talking about Oprah?" But, having myself be EXHAUSTED from a 53 mile bike ride, I stayed awake (O re-airs at 9pm here) just to see this interview --or lack there of. Better luck next time Oprah staffers.... -Kim Hawkins Windermere, FL USA

One more thing that I did not mention...........As for exercise, I went to the library and got a few books on weight training and using an exercise ball as well. I also picked up a new treadmill at an estate sale for next to nothing. Five years ago I did invest in a quality rebounder and now use all of these things on a regular basis. And of course, there is alway's the great outdoors!

wow.i am still i total awe of valerie bertiellis show. i've been watching oprah for years and ultimately, i know that LOGICALLY we should all just switch over to positive thoughts and be happy. it seems so simple. what struck me the most about valerie's experience was that she didn't even think she was good enough on one day at a time. the self esteem issue was present from her childhood and clouded her from making good decisions going forward. for me, that was my a-ha moment. regardless of how much you fill the hole, it still has a leak at the bottom. i started to cry when she said she prayed for a lightness of being..so simple, yet so powerful. i'm the young mom of five kids. i'm the oldest of eight kids. i'm a wife. my life is so full that i feel like i just want it to get smaller. i find myself more and more getting depressed about aging...the little weight gain, the skin issues. i don't believe my brothers, my husband, my friends who tell me that i'm so thin and so beautiful ad so young. i used to think it was't ladylike to accept a compliment, but was it more ladylike to teach myself a sense of shame? we;;, i'm sticking with the good thoughts now and dusting myself off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!the real lesson here is that your true worth doesn't come from compliments, if you don't believe them anyway. the only way they can have true meaning is when you allow them to be an affirmation, backing up what you already believe.or, what you're trying to believe!!! oprah and valerie proved another point...nobody's life is how you imagine it behind closed doors. i am so grateful to have had such a profound, life changing experience just watching t.v., under covers in my bed with the flu! i would have never been tuned in if i wasn't so sick......so SOMEBODY knew i needed to hear it. thanks again, girls for being so candid! thanks for opening up the sisterhood to the world!

Hey Oprah, What's the big idea going after Valerie Bertinelli like that, it was obvious she hadn't READ the book?!? TOTALLY KIDDING! Great show. It was cool to see her "aha" right on camera. I've always liked her and now I like her even more. One comment she made keeps running through my mind. She said she used to eat to make herself feel better for the moment because she wasn't living in the moment. That holds something for me but I'm still pondering it. Lin S

Way, way too much information!! Doesn't she have any sense of pride? Everyone has things in their life that they wish they had done differently. I think she's giving permission to young girls today to behave as she did. SHAME, SHAME, SHAME.

Watching Valerie was like watching myself up there....long term disfunctional marriage, depression, weight problem. Now she's with a great guy and looks fantastic. Maybe there is hope yet.

hello. I just read your post on Oprah's website. You wrote about Valerie and her weight loss and how much you admired her.
You said you know you can't lose weight. I want to tell you that you can. I carried an extra 50 lbs around for years (all through
my 30's) believing I would never be thin again. Boy was I wrong. I had tried everything (or so I thought) ranging from the skinny soup diet...to plain ole fashion exercise. I still couldn't lose. In fact, exercise made me want to eat more....and so I did.
Then someone told me about weight watchers. Now being in my early 40's I believed there was no way at my age I could lose weight.
In addition, I have an underactive thyroid which makes it even more difficult. I began weight watchers...without every joining and attending any meetings if you can believe that. The weight came off immediately....2 to 3 lbs each week until I had lost 25 lbs in 3 months. My clothes literally started falling off of me. I never felt hungry the whole time. I understand the weight watcher concept and
never had to pay a dime to join. Yet, I lost weight on it. I am a true believer of their plan and would be willing to share it with you if
you are interested. I am not going to waste anymore of my time because I am working now. If you want me to go into more detail about how I lost (without exercising) 25 lbs pm Weight Watchers....e-mail and I'll share more details. This is no scam. I really want to share with anyone who can use the help and motivation.

I hope Valerie is reading the message boards. If so, please disregard all the negative comments by those who can only thrive off of putting other people's success down. While I could have lived without hearing about your sexual encounters, I was not offended by them. For those who were offended...GET A LIFE!!! I was impressed with the fact that you are so unprententious and will probably help inspire many because of who you are. Congratulations Valerie for the weight loss...for leaving Eddie...for finding a new boyfriend and for raising a son while you were going through so much hell. Because you are human and made some poor choices (just like those negative people who posted on here have) you still were able to learn from your mistakes...move on...and best of all share it. I hope you make some $$$ from your book, too. Even though I'm not a big reader of biographies, I plan to buy it just because you are such a cool person. BTW....Since you lost the weight...you still look as great as you did on One Day at a Time.
