Namaste Oprah
I was very surprised to see the show about being shlumpadinka today. (usually I am running around after my kids at the show time, so record them all and watch at my convenience) All these years I thought that being Shlumpadinka is the way to be in this country. When I came here from India 10 years back, I use to be very prim and proper with matching shoes, matching jewelery, purse, make up......everything. This use to be my life in India, rather average Indian's life - going to beauty parlour for eyebrows, facial massages, waxing.........what not. I even got dressed up just for groceries. But here I felt people staring at me as I was not in my sweats or non-fit pair of jeans. Even my friends, who were mostly Indian, told me how non- american it was. Gradually I became a so called shlumpadinka, and felt "fit" for America, and now I realized all that trouble for nothing?? How come??? :-D
