Well sparkledi is your ego enjoying these responses in this NOW,. Answers to the question "why was the first ego created". Mine is...
kmaguitor, i didn't read THE 4 AGREEMENTS.Does it discuss the personality is a temporary attachment to the soul for the ourpose of Karma? (lessons to be learned) Or if the personality travels beyond the limited forms of body/mind in to spirit? is personality part og the DNA inherited from parents, grandparents, from the dimension of cause and effect..? What you sow you reap.
marybasrai,
The development of the ego is something that has distinguished humans from all other kingdoms in this 3rd dimension. Animals Plants, stones gasses. The HinDu Prayer THE GAYATRI MANTRA ( which when analized is identical to THE LOD'S PRAYER) honours The Father (God) who is limitless beyond all dimensions. Give us all, to survive and BE well on this limited dimensions until we have awareness to move beyond it. Both prayers request a desire to develop our intellect to SEE things as they really are. Not from our limited awareness. The intellect here is being used to create a prayer to transend itself. As most people use less than 10% of their brain and intellect, it seems our over use of the analitical intellect is not really an issue if kept in this NOW. It seems we under analize if anything.
jasciu's response was an excellent study ofchildhood ego development from a survival fight/flight perspective. Which my intellectual ego really enjoyed. THANKYOU.
By practising ET'S teachings (WHICH IS WHAT HIS BOOK IS ABOUT. PRACTISING....) and using the tool of the intellect in THIS NOW we master the intellect and ballow space for all that is seen and unseen. Go beyond the intellect. Back to where we came from
WHY DID WE LEAVE..?
Yes chicken or egg????
The ego is a survival tool and human kind is now able to exist without it in this third dimension. Well ffew are and more and more are expanding their awareness everyday. This forum is a catylist for a massive jump of humankind, into those next dimensions of conciousness
I have meet several people who nevr I mean never eat.. They live of PRANA...from the universe and have little if no ego at all.
With this expansion of conciousness we go beyond the just surviving into the 4th 5th 6th etc...dimensions of reality here on A NEW EARTH.
why did we leave this limitless state? dID gOD JUST WANT MORE god's TO KEEP it cmpant?
That systems sucks excuse me....!!!
Ego just to survive beinf alive, we don't need it anymore...
PRACTISE NOW and allow space to return to whence we came.
STILL DON'T KNOW WHY IN THE HELL WE LEFT
My ego has been feed enough for THIS now and taken enough of your phsycological time so off to the gym NOW for m , to survive a litle longer to see A NEW EARTH created.
So glad i'm here to witness it. Wouldnt be any where else in the univers would you.

Use the thorn in the side ie ego/intellect, to remove the thorn from the body..
So sorry about all the spelling mistakes everyone I know it's hard to read.
By writing from an intellectual perspective, as I have on this post, I am aware there is little or no emotional body present in my NOW....
Thankyou for the opportunity to use my intellectual body as my emotional bosy is normally in control..
LOVE TO ALL IN THIS NOW
you are all accepted by me, just how you are..
Need new glasses....:x

Does it matter "why"? Isn't it an intellectual pursuit with no answer?
I would guess the story of eating the apple in the Garden of Eden is a metaphor for the moment of ego awareness - or awareness of duality, but perhaps this is a question to ask Tolle??
It IS an intellectual persuit I ama aware of that. Often these persuits are to no immediate end other than maiking us think outside our normal perameters. Outside our restricting belief systems. We are challenged by THE DEVILS advocate, no pun intended to our Christian bretheren. Many advances in human evolution, ie dveelopment of medicines, come from answers that are asked that can't be found straight away. But from a concerted study of any topic answers are often found which can take us to a whole new understanding of REALITY. Louis Psture would have been asked the same question DOES IT REALLY MATTER? if everyone has to die anyway why dedicated your whole life looking for the answer to a difficult question.....Many of our greatest creations of science have come from an unrelenting persuit of the answer to a question. Many great creations have come from a diligent deep search for answers. And often after thisalmost painfull study, answers come. New awareness comes. Often after the seeker has persued all other avenues of investigation they collapse into stillness, from exhaustion, and a whole new perspective and awareness is present. One that has never been considered by mankind before. So yes it does matter in this NOW
But when i'm at the gym it wont....
Lactic acid creation will be my diligent persuit then
in love and laughs

Hi chriskbell,
Here is a stab at an answer on the rise and fall of the egoic empire, but the answer doesn't matter all that much, compared to the very simple feeling of inhabiting the body, and feeling aliveness directly.
In some of his CD lectures, Eckhart talks about the development of human beings. As they acquired abstract thought, they became very powerful. The abstract mind is a very powerful tool. But over time instead using the mind as a tool, the tool began to use the human. And the humans lost themselves (lost awareness) into the tool, and forgot who they were and mistakenly believed that the tool was them.
So, as that abstract power of the mind increased, humans ate of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The mind was able to say "I like this, and I don't like that." This story from Genesis contains deep truth. Not scientific proof about how forms were born, but a deep truth about human dysfunction. With this power, the evaluator was born in human beings, and humans began to lose their natural connection with Being, and packed up their belongings and "moved" into the mind.
This development of the power of the mind was a necessary step in evolving to a higher level of consciousness than the minerals, plants and animals. However, now, because of the magnification of the insanity of our egoic mind through science (like the atom bomb) we are at the point of either evolving above mind, or wiping ourselves out. If we make it as a species, great, and if we don't, consciousness will still push forth into the world of form. So, we don't need to be overly distressed about all this.
Anyway, back to the evaluator within us (the mind). Eckhart's words are pointers, not pointing back to the vegetable realm below mind, (like by drinking 5 whiskeys), but above mind (so to speak). And what is the doorway to allowing consciousness to rise above thought? 1) Observe (making the unconscious conscious), and 2) Allow (meaning judge not, condemn not), the forms that are held in the now just as they are. What appears as our greatest limitation, our cross, when accepted completely becomes a doorway to the divine. Not my will but thine be done. This surrender cuts through the resistance of the evaluator, which likes to say "this moment is not the moment I want, I want a better moment in the future).
We are more easily able to drop this resistance and allow what is to be, when we don't totally believe the evaluator. After all, the evaluator, which say "that guy is a jerk," is just making a snapshot of reality, and misses all of the infinite depth of reality. From one perspective the guy might be a jerk, but from another perspective he may be a saint. So, we don't have to totally believe the evaluator, who says "you are no good, others are no good, this situation is no good." Or the evaluator, just a harmfully says "I'm better, or others are better, or this situation is perfect, so I need to cling to it so I won't lose it."
So there was a stab at the history of the rise and fall of the egoic empire. But, again no answer matters all that much. What really matters is whether we are able to feel our connectedness to being in this moment, by surrendering into the now.
Peace and blessings to you

student99 Thankyou for your articulate response. By mearly reading and replying to all these responses we are living in this now and the energy of expanded conciousnes is growing amongst us all. In this NOW i'm aware of the emotional body creating a presence of gratitude. Gratitude for the ability to share with you and others. My physical body is in Australia but my presence is with 1000's of others tuning into A NEW EARTH. No need for food, clothes, entertainment, even Tolle, IN THIS NOW as we are either writing or reading. Using the intellect as a tool of transformation...
It's 35 degrees celsius.
The gym can wait...

:xdear cagney08,
having asked that question an answer came. BE I THE WORLD BUT NOT OF THE WORLD.
And yes, in the past it was neccessary to be cloistered from the world but not now...
As there are thoudsands of souls all over the world who have practised LIVING IN THE NOW for many decades, the conciousness on Earth has lifted THANK GOD. But with that comes that elastic band of the Quantum Leap. Eventually it snaps. We go one way or another. Which way would you prefer??
I don't see it as right or wrong it is just LEFT....
My sense is that many souls searching this medium of Oprah.com have been cloistered, in prevoius births and will resonate with the wisdom that the time is upon us.
Time to step out from the sillness into awareness of conciousness so everyone is given the opportunity to BE COME AWAKE...
Hi Cagney08,
I liked your post about two kinds of Christians earlier for the well meaning, distressed, all caps poster.
So, to answer your question. Do we have to become like monks to avoid being lost in the world of form?
Of course not. We can participate in the play of form, as long as we still feel the essence of the life that we are as the awareness that holds all forms. So, we are in the world, but not of the world.
In fact, when we are fully in this moment, we give full care and attention to this step that is currently flowing through us, and end up with great results. Why do we end up with great results? Because we don't need great results. Participating fully in this moment, in this step is primary, and the results take care of themselves. This is what it means to seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well.
When we drop resistance, and find being, then we no longer need anything, so we are able to relax and enjoy everything. Now it is true that our form requires food, shelter and clothing to "survive." However, physical survival has nothing to do with feeling peace and aliveness in this moment. If we pretend that we are going to die in 30 seconds, it is easier rather than harder to feel our aliveness, because we don't have to worry about our future any more. And ironically, this outside form identity has a better chance of "surviving," when we don't insert poison into the form by demanding survival.
Be perfect as your father in heaven is perfect. How? The perfect human being is the one who can observe imperfection in this world of form, without condemning it. No mind made resistance. Not my will but thine be done.
When we are lost in form, we condemn form. Once we are free of form, we can enjoy form.
Blessings to you, Student99 ![]()
Hi chriskbell,
Thanks for posting the ego ego ego Why thread. I really enjoyed reading everyone's comments.
What is 35 Celsius in Fahrenheit? Student99
Yes there is some wonderful sharing going on and most of it is in the right (LEFT ) way....
All is acceptable without vioence of thougth word or deed. Even violence too has it's place...
it's 37c now and that is bl..dy hot. About 100 farenheidt.
Hope I don't get one of those abuse icons for that.
In love and laughs and
lots and lots of GRATITUDE.

American's don't know what bl..dy means, so no worries. ![]()
student99....yes...absolutely 100%....your response about the rise and fall of the egoic empire....I see it...I know it...and seeing as your answers are soooo coherent...will you please ponder this question for me?
How are we to relate? How are we to share? How do two people hold a conversation without ego or pain body interaction? I feel I go in and out of ego state...sometimes when I feel I'm truly in the Now Presence...then before I know it my brain and mouth keep talking and I've slipped into ego state...
and also...If we are truly in the Now Presence...why even talk at all? What could there possibly BE to talk about? I'm asking this because our book club is having the first meeting this Saturday...and I'm curious how it will all unfold...how will we relate? How will we (truly) share?
I don't think student99 is here right now emzu1029 but I will try to help you from my understanding of Tolle as student99 has...Though I find him more grounded in his
answers and down to earth I sense you need support NOW. I would highly suggest you
send these questions into Tolle himself as we are students as you are.
Also, it seems your questions are based on the future & perhaps are not really needed NOW.
How are we to relate? If we are all Present as awareness we will relate from that place...that is our natural state of Peace/Joy/Love.
How are we to share? We will share from the space of Love.
How do two people hold a conversation without ego or pain body interaction? With deep listening...attention to the moment.
If we are truly in the Now Presence...why even talk at all? What could there possible be to talk about?
When we all reach that state, Heaven on Earth will be here (my own observation is that perhaps it will be the end of the world as we know it.)
As one.
Love is. Nothing else is.
Hi Chriskbell,
I had the same question when I started about 4 months ago on my quest. I went to my spiritual teacher with the same exact question that you just asked "Why if we were created in the image of God, did he give us an ego that has the potential to do negative things?" She then said that we were given "ego" to create. If we didn't have an ego then we wouldn't be able to acheive the "greater things" of life. She also explained to me that "we've forgotten who we are..." in reference to Jesus' teachings (I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life...). Meaning we are ALL the Way, the Truth, and the Life. But we had to forget so we could reincarnate into this life, the individual life that each of us are in now. I'm not quite sure that I totally agree with everything that Eckhart has written as of yet. I am waiting to take the class to hear how he is going to explain his thoughts on ego. I don't agree that the ego is all bad. With out it, where would we be? I think maybe it's the motives that we have when working with the ego, maybe more like "self-will run riot...) rather than all ego. So, while I agree that the "collective ego" needs an over haul, I think that the overhaul might not apply to on an individual basis.
Good question!
Becky
