and when you claim you have no ego or the ego is evil what are you really saying because the ego is what regulates the body-mind system
of humans ( i mean its just a word if you want to substitute another word OK ) After study with several guru's I have yet to meet a person who
does not need ego in order to function as a full realized human being...

Interesting. I wonder if the same action (promoting a girl friend) can have two different energies behind it. One of EGO and one of non-ego. At this point I can say yes. I say this because I know I can paint somedays and talk about the paintings without any attachment.... then at another time.. I can feel ego come into the process.. it comes in the form of Attachment energy -- attached to what people will say/think and how well I do the painting. It is a clear energy difference for me yet the actions may seem the same.. the words may also be similiar. I'd be interested in hearing what others experiences are ..
Can you show me in writing or in video where Tolle has every said he has no ego?
I can tell you that I see your ego in your post ...and mine in needing to respond to it.
Blessings to all.
As One.
Love is. Nothing else is.
Here we have the ever appearing issue and mistake that humans make. It is not about the messenger, it is about the message. And I do agree that I have never heard Eckhart Tolle claim that he has no ego. There is no guru, teacher or whatever you want to it that can claim to have no ego. Claiming to have no ego, the need to do so = EGO. Oops.
Blessings,
Sven
I thought about this same idea when reading a part in the book: Sometimes my creativity is in the moment/awareness/present; sometimes I am thinking of the reactions that my craft will get. Recently, a faraway friend thanked me again in an e-mail for a gift I had made for him and his wife. My response was, "I can't decide whether I get more pleasure out of making things, anticipating how the recipient will react to it, or sharing the reaction--nice dilemma." I wrote this comment before reading the book. When I said, "...pleasure out of making things...," I was talking about being in the moment/awareness/being/pleasure. When I said, "...anticipating how the recipient will react to it...," I left that being in the moment/awareness/being/pleasure because I was anticipating I (future) a reaction to my gift. When I said, "...or sharing the reaction...," where am I? If I simultaneously share another person's pleasure in something I have created in the past for him/her, am I in the moment with awareness and pleasure? Input please.
I've been following his work (reading the books, listening to his cd's) for several years now, and have attended one of his lectures. I wasn't even aware that he had a partner until I saw the post on the main website that she will be teaching after the online class. Seems to me if he was pushing her work, she would have been mentioned in all the books and cd's, and at the event. I also believe the event I attended was worth every penny. There was so much taught there, on so many levels - way beyond just the spoken word.
Good question - I don't know where it is stated that he says "he has no ego" I was working under the assumption the original message writer had either read it or has made that assumption and/or intrepreation. Whether or not it's true - It did make me question my own relationship to promoting something or someone and what type of energy is present. Best Wishes -
My understanding of the ego issue is, we do not, not have an ego we just don't identify with it as anything permanent. There are many ways to look at an event, and when ego is rigid it says that this way is the only interpretation. Perhaps another interpretation is possible and even more true, so an ego that is not identified with only one possible answer is flexible and fluid and usually more peaceful. Try to interpret how you see this situation of Mr Tolle's promotion in another way. There may be a way to see it that changes your feelings about it completely.

I'm not sure I have an answer - I "lose myself" when I am creating. I make quilts, and I give most of them away. The pleasure for me is twofold, in the making and in the gifting. And I seem to be able to let go of both quite easily, and am not able to answer people who ask me how I can just give them away..especially to people who have no idea what is involved in the making of one. I know, and that is enough. It is enough for me that I enjoyed the creating and learned more about creating. I have let the object go before I give it away.
My work as a funeral director is another place I experience this. Time disappears, I offer everything I have to give to famiies for the brief time we are in contact, and the rewards that mean the most to me are when a family tells me that I have made a difficult time easier. It is a priceless gift we share with each other for a few moments in time. And, of course, people ask me how I can do what I do. In my case - it is a matter of recognizing that because I AM able to, and feel called to do it, how can I not? It is also a job where few people know how many hours we put in outside of the few hours they see us in our suits, standing around. We do it to make sure everything is the best we can make it, and knowing we have done all we can, is enough.
We never know what the next moment in time will hold for any of us. I can't change the fact of death or the circumstances under which it occurred or the state of family relationships at the time it happened. I have certain things I do that are a part of the role of funeral director. But I have the opportunity to go beyond that and give the gift of myself, to be present, to be unafraid of the facts of the situation, to be accepting of the way things are for them in that moment. And maybe that will help them begin to accept and find peace with what now "is" changed in their life - to let go. And then I let it go, again and again so i can go on and do it again the next time. My experience has taught me that we never lose the one we loved. They remain in us. We let go of a physical form and circumstances change.
The intangibles I receive from these experiences have been great gifts for my life. My experiences taught me that I can choose to live with an acceptance of what is and the peace and joy that comes with that. Others still choose to struggle against what is, and create suffering and discontent in their lives.
Watching me sell most of the stuff from my house, as I prepared to take a sabbatical, a concerned neighbor and friend commented: "I think you let go of things too easily." I responded that it's just stuff, and knew I was speaking my truth in that moment.

Ego is just a series of thoughts about "I." That's all ego is...just thought. There is no one there...just the watcher, or awareness, everyday ordinary awareness. Right now you know you are aware. That's it, that's what we are. Continuing to notice this you find the extraordinary in the ordinary awareness that you are. Eckhart saw that he was awareness and that this unhappy story about "I", was false. So he didn't take his thoughts seriously anymore. There is awareness, which is eternal and never changes, and there is the content of awareness...always moving, changing, beginning, ending. But what you are as awareness never changes. Your body is an object in your awareness, the same as a chair. When you close your eyes, you are still aware and what you will always find about "you" is only a handful of sensations, that without the labels (stomach growling, butt in chair) would only be sensation. Just like a baby looking at it's hand...no label, just an interesting object in awareness.
Awareness is not found with the mind or in the future. It's what you always, already are. Just ask yourself, "Am I conscious and aware?"And you know that you are...you are that.
It doesn't matter "where" Eckhart is, or what is girlfriend is doing. Just continuing listening to his pointers. There are many others out there with pointers (google non-duality) that will tell you the same thing in different ways. The wonderful thing about Eckhart is that can bring so many people to this incredible discovery - you....
Don't waste your beautiful energy on stories about other people. That is a huge distraction. Take what he is saying on faith and find out for yourself.
Hi Shamus08, Under the heading of your post "Tolleism does have a lot of insights into the human condition" you stated about Tolle "his books are well written and can help a lot of people to get in touch inside themselves". Since then you have proceeded on a flood of highly critical and negative posts, consistently trying to turn all readers away from Tolle's writings. I'm confused. If you are genuine when you talk about the assistance Tolle's books provide to a lot of people, why do you work so hard to undermine his efforts? Here's topics you've posted: * Tolleism does have a lot of insights into the human condition * what is needed to balance out Tolle's philosophy is Dr.Jeffrey Raff & his book Jung and the Alchemical Imagination * flying with crows talking to coyotes, Tolle's description is the phenomenology of Mind only Buddhism & Husserl * We christians believe in a living G'd full of personality, i.e. ego * Word up; Mr.Tolle, the grasper and the grasped * Tolle's connection to Eli Jaxon Bear,Toni Varner aka Gangaji the non dualists * Christians shouldn't listen to Tolle's ideas on droppping the ego, a false mysticism * Its well known the guru has to carry the collective shadow of his followers, what precautions as Tolle set in place for this ? * Where are Tolle's qualifications for making absolute statements * Eckhart Tolle's nepotism in pushing Kim Eng "his partner" The latest stream of your postings, seek to attack Tolle on the basis of ego, and how you believe Ego is Godly. The foundation for your attack is Dr. Raff's definition of ego, which you describe as: "When the ego is in touch with any psychic content, that content is conscious. When the ego is not, that content is unconscious." Clearly this definition of ego is not even close to Tolle's definition. This is like hearing someone saying "bear" in the context of "to support", and arguing that bear actually means "an omnivorous mammal". The only purpose the argument might serve is to temporarily satisfy an apparent need for an argument. Is your fundamental issue that you wish Tolle to adopt your guru's definition of "ego"? As for whether Tolle has an ego, watch the week 2 video with an open mind, and you'll see what he means by ego and why losing this ego - in itself - is no big achievement. Whilst you appear to be waging an evangelical crusade, could you consider the possibility that you might possibly be astray in your assumptions/interpretations, just as the Crusades themselves were misguided wars initiated by the Church (based on a misinterpretation of Jesus' teachings)? Please keep posting and consider whether Jesus would wage a war or would take a more peaceful approach to spreading his enlightment.
