Its apples and oranges. I don't think you can combine the two... they are very different philosophies. One is more about attracting things in the world of form and is ego centered. You desire...you attract...you have. The other is about stepping beyond form, letting go of the ego and being at peace with what is. I am not saying one is right one is wrong, they are just different.
They are similar in that they are both about choosing your thoughts and reactions and aligning with the positive force of the universe. In the Secret when they talk about focusing on negativity and that's what you'll get, that is ego mind thinking. Thoughts become reality...we have been so controlled by our ego thoughts for so long that we have created a world that has a lot of problems and we are in trouble...so if we can choose to stop thinking from the ego, we can create a better world for us all. I think the creators of the Secret used manifesting material things as their examples of how our thoughts can really work because that was the way to get peoples attention to the concept. I think the first things many think of wanting are the material things...another example of our ego running the show..so is that where you see the contradiction? The Secret talks about using our thoughts to get material things and A New Earth talks about our want of material things as being driven by the ego?
PERFECTLY put!!
I just posted that IMO "The Secret" should not be posted on the Tolle topics. They are two different things. Althought I love Oprah I do not see much value on the secret. As with everything take what helps and release the rest. "The Secret" is another way of grasping and controling a world we can't control most of the time. It deludes you into believing you can control your life in every aspect, that we in some way are God and that we "create" (and that word can be misused) our reality. Tolle says a different thing, he talks about surrender, awareness, and the creation of a new world though changes in our awareness and actions. Please dedicate this forum to Tolle and his teachings and post about "The Secret' in it's alocated forum.
I also apply The Secret in my life. I don't feel the contradiction. In order to receive what the universe wants to give, one need to let go of yourself. Eckhart Tolle is teaching us how to do that. It is so liberating.
It should not be discussed under this topic. When you want to attract something hou have to contemplate it to in your thoughts an attach a feeling to it. Tha is not letting go and it has nothing to do with "A New Earth". Please point out a page where Tolle refers to the law of attraction.
I think ritchiejen said it perfectly! You really should not compair the two books.
The Secret is a wonderful book, it is the beginning of changing the way you look at things. The book puts it simply to stop being a victim. When you start living the dream life, the book A New Earth teaches you to be a healthy complete human. The secret is a stepping stone to your evolution of being. A New Earth teaches you how to evolve emotionally.
As someone mentioned above, we have to work on putting aside the "I" statements for this book; but I do see The Secret as a beginning to changing your thinking and in doing so changing your life, not necessarily catalouge shopping the universe (a concept that does not do The Secret justice) but letting go of misperseptions or ignorances that stop us from seeing or accepting other possibilities.
