How could Oprah eat a corndog (knowing what she knows)?

Posted on Nov 1, 2009 2:10 PM

I once heard Oprah reveal one of her favorite life lessons: "When you know better, you do better."

So how is it that Oprah - a woman who has been well educated about the immense suffering inflicted upon food animals, the devestation that animal agriculture has on our environment and the toll it takes on human health....how could this woman who "knows better" still not "do better"? How could she STILL be seen on TV promoting horrendously cruel and devestating meat products to her audience?

Given the impact those products have, consuming them is akin to beating a pig while running over a starving child in your Hummer!

Oprah - you say you care about animals. You say you care about human suffering and starvation. You say you care about global warming. It's time your diet reflected your values: go vegan. It's easy, it's tasty and it's the right thing to do.

A "Vast" majority of soybeans are eaten by vegans, in various products, to include: soy burgers, soy dogs, soy nuts, soy dressings and noodles...

A great majority of soybeans are used in cosmetic industries as in moisturizers, hair removal products and makeup...

Put a child in the woods to fend for themselves and they may not eat the rabbit at first, but in little time, they will learn they need what the rabbit has to offer to survive...((most animals "play" with their food before they kill it, just watch a cat mousing))

Speaking of cats, a Vet will tell you that cats MUST have some form of real meat in their diets for good health...A dog does not need a lot of meat in their diets...google that

BTW> a rabbit is very lean, has little fat and most people who hunt for food know that...Now a beaver, there's some real protien and neccessary fat the body needs...

TRUE, but eating meat and religion really have nothing to do with each other in this thread, no olffense intended...It's hard enough to discuss our views on religions and various "Gods" without bringing our diet into the bible...You are right in your statement that in the "Bible" ((a good book, not necessarily proof of a ONE and almighty)) Jesus gave the multitude fish to eat...

I teach Native American Herbal and Plant medicine, Herbs for good health and healing, and Benefincial Use of Essential Oils in everyday useage...And I "DO" eat meat...I am a certified Natural Medicine Practioner, and have been for over 20 years...I love ALL animals and treat them respectfully...Being Cherokee, we have always given thanks to the animals we have consumed...

[[Note: PLEASE< PLEASE, do NOT bring Native American history into this thread as a debate, I will NOT participate in it....I am ONLY replying to lifegetter's request]]

THANK YOU KINDLY...

You really need to lighten up with the pounds of junk you are carrying in your head. I am with you on the eating healthy but even animal kill and eat animals, bugs eat bugs and it never seems very pretty. I hate spiders but I had a pet spider named Matilda who built her home in the Southern Oak tree just outside my home. I watched her for months and marvels as she spun her web full of protein dinning delights. The other day while I was skimming the pool and I saw a spider struggling for its life in the middle of the pool. My first thought was to look away because I don't like spiders or the violence of watching something drown so as any good meat or veggie eating person would do I decided to save the spider. Extending the skimmer pole to its longest length I scoop the spider up and placed him on the trunk of a palm tree. Before the spider could shake the water from its legs a lizard jumped and snapped the spider into it's mouth and even seem to have smugly licked it's lips. Talk about horrendously cruel. What really is the right thing and exactly what kind of education are you talking about? Sometimes we really aren't doing as well as we think but I am sure you will learn to do better. Till then enjoy the lessons you can learn from observing your own life and the glorious teacher that surrounds you and let poor Oprah eat a corn dog without judgement for heaven sakes.

Why don't we all be nice to all trees, plants and animals and just breathe air alone? Let's all Just all be on dliiets and see who would survive the longest on water and oxygen only. Which planet is this idea coming from. Ms Oprah knows better 'cos she knows what she likes and go for it, like more than half of the world do. You must be cruel to an apple tree and vegetables 'cos you're eating them. My eating meat DOES NOT mean that I do not love my pet and animals. Short, short mind. It's a choice of food, period. Humans had been relying on animals and plants for food for centuries. Oprah does not need to change her values. I love meat and so do others, like billions. Just be happy and enjoy life. Oprah can't control everything in this whole world..

lacyblu,

Click on my username, because I just started a thread for sharing good news and information including recipes. (Vegans are welcomed to share their vegan recipes as well), I would love your recipes.

I do have to say that sweet potatoes will be harmed in my home.

The thread titled "Sharing Good Information With Others", it is not about causes, issues. Debates are not welcomed just sharing good information, such as recipes, if someone just got engaged, just found a job, anything that is good news and they wanted to share their good news.

I would love your recipe for your mincemeat pie, as well as your Pemmican. My 16 year old son loves snacking on beef jerky, he also aspires to be a chef and I know he would love to learn how to make his own jerkys including Pemmican.

My 16 year old has some Cherokee in him. I would love to find him a Cherokee mentor.

I have always found it funny how all the vegan food products are made to look and taste like meat. If vegans object to eating meat then why have products that looks, feels, and tastes like meat?

Fake meat is nasty, I will just stick to the real meat. Nothing beats real food.

Wearing fake things, eating fake foods, is for Halloween not for everyday.

I like some soy products.

I like tofu, soy nuts, soy chips, soy flakes, some soy milk (sometimes).

But I have learned that soy can be damaging to our health.

All you have to do is google "harmful soy products" and you will find all sorts of articles of the not so healthy side to eating soy.

There are health warning that pregnant women should NOT eat soy, there are articles why we should never feed our children soy products.

Have you noticed a few years ago, almost every where you went someone was promoting healthy soy. You don't hear anyone promoting soy anymore.

Just google, Deer Over population problems, Duck Over Populations, Cow over population problems, Pig Over population problems, Chicken over population problems.

You will find all sorts of articles.

Also google health benefits to eating meat.

You will find plenty of eye opening positive information of the health benefits of eating meat and what our bodies need and can only get from meat.

Humans need a well balanced diet that has all sorts of vegetables and meat products.

We still have teeth designed for tearing, ripping, and chewing meat. If we didn't need to eat meat anymore we would have evolved teeth.

In response to that, you can also Google the benefits of not eating meat. To me, there is zero benefit from eating meat that has been injected with antibiotics and God knows what else.

I also want to add that there is a great book call Eating Animals. People on both sides of this argument will like it because it lets both factory farmers and activists speak for themselves. He just gives you the information and you can form your own opinion. And in my opinion, I am so glad I made the choice to be a vegetarian.

I have read all sorts of articles and books regarding eating animals. I have weighed both sides of this issue and for me my choice is still to eat meat and I will continue to eat meat as most likely will be my two sons.

I do have a question for you jeynei, has your parents immunized you when you were a baby? Did you go and get your flue shot? Have you not taken antibiotics when you had an ear infection?

Have you ever been hospitalized for any sort of surgery?

Have you ever been to the dentist? Have you ever been injected with novacaine? or did you just bare with the drill as is?

Do you floss? What color is the floss thread you use?

Do you wear clothes? Have the manufacter used a dye to give your clothes color?

Do you eat veggie burgers? Veggie dogs? Tofu Ice Cream? Do you make your own veggie burgers, veggie dogs, tofu ice cream?

I will still stick with eating meat.

:p When you have as much money as Oprah does, you can eat anything you choose to eat. She helps people in all different ways and ocasionally eats what people, her fans offer her, how rude it would be to visit a town of your fans and refuse to taste or try what Dallas offered her. She is damned if she does and damned if she doesnt. So she does what she thinks is polite at the time. Hurray for OPRAH...:^0

Although I do enjoy eating meat and I will continue to eating meat, I would never say YUK to someone else's food choices and actually I wouldn't mind trying some of chefwalnuts cooking. It does sound yummy, but just because I wouldn't mind trying chefwalnuts choices for Thanksgiving, does not mean I will convert to becoming a vegan.

I just like a wide variety of foods.

I think it is rude to say YUK to ones way of eating. We all have different cultures and traditions we practice.

I also want to make it clear, that by no means have I ever accused vegans, vegetarians of being wrong in their choices. Their choices are their choices and it works for them.

A total vegan or vegetarian diet will not work for me or my family.

That is the total beauty of this beautiful planet of ours, everything and everyone is different. How boring it would be if we were all the same, ate the same, did the same activities.

I like how there is such a variety.
