Lack of research in chosen segment.

I am not an American citizen, yet i am aware of the impact Oprah has on Americans and how influential she is to those who watch her show, with some even going as far as idolizing her. I am Lebanese Australian and i take great pride in being from both of these countries, Australia that offers FREE healthcare to all its citizens while upholding their rights and freedom and Lebanon with its amazing culture and history and what it has given the world (incase you forgot, Gibran Khalil Gibran, Micheal Debaghey, Elie Saab, Mika, Carlos Slim Helu, Zuhair Murad, and plenty more . It was recently brought to my attention that Oprah held a segment hosting one of our famous Lebanese singers Nancy Ajram on her show, after getting excited that Oprah is opening the American public's eye to our culture and our way of life i decided to head on over to youtube and look it up, and to my amazement i was disgusted with what i saw. I don¿t know if her research team let her down or if she let herself down but i would personally expect much more from such an influential TV persona and the amount of research that goes into her segments before she holds a show. First of I will start with the voice over, "Lebanon a deeply conservative country", this "Deeply Conservative Country" was voted the number 1 travel destination by the New York times, One of Lebanon¿s Leading nightclubs "Skybar" was voted the best bar in the world (if you would like links i would be more than happy to forward them to you) and not to mention the endless American and European performers who come and hold shows in our country (Im sure the Pussycat Dolls and Snoop Dog are very conservative), With all due respect to Nancy's sexy dance moves (who is considered a Conservative artist in Lebanon)maybe she should look up Haifa Wehbe and her dance moves.. everyone in the country dances, we are human after all, a couple of weeks ago we had the Brazilian Samba team hold a festival (we all know how Brazilians love to be conservative in their samba dances.. right??), and not to mention the thriving Gay community in Lebanon (feel free to look it up) and This year alone Beirut was named ¿World Book capital of the year¿ by UNESCO not to mention CNN¿s Cal Perry reported that Lebanon¿s party scene is world class. BBC news described Beirut as ¿the most liberal and diverse city in the Middle East¿. She can also talk to fellow Americans Ang Lee and Ford Coppola who were recently in Lebanon for the Beirut International Film Festival.

I will leave it at that with the voice over and move on to the slideshow, She starts of by showing a picture of a Mosque to show Lebanon first of all, The picture of the mosque isn't from Lebanon ,if you want one I'll be more than glad to send you one, that is literally wall to wall with a church, I would like to inform you that the president of Lebanon needs to be (as written in the constitution) a Maronite (catholic), the country is home to the biggest Catholic Church in the East and our "Pope" referred to as Batrak in Lebanese, is the Ruler of Antioch, not to mention that Lebanon is home to 19 recognized religious sects all of which can be practiced freely and have equal rights as everyone else in the country, We all live together and party together and drink together and do everything together regardless of the drift that the media tries to show the world, we are one people and we live as such. The part that really made me laugh and made me question how accurate all the other information she shows on her show is what followed after that, two pictures of veiled women are shown and are made out to be as if this is a normal scene in Lebanon, first of all these pictures are not of Lebanese women, The photos you used in your segment DO NOT represent the Lebanese society, or women in the country in general, sure we have veiled women in Lebanon and we also have women walking around in bikini¿s and short shorts like every other country. This is very misleading and as a Lebanese i am offended that you chose those pictures and voice over to represent my country, we are Paris of the Middle East, our fashion style and sense levels up and if not beats your Beverly Hills and Malibu scene, just ask Elie Saab and all our famous designers who dress your American celebrities. Every part of the world has conservative parties, but that doesn't mean that a whole region and/or country is conservative. Lebanon is Lebanese, we are not Arabs, we are like a mixture of all things different ( because of the various occupation our country has suffered) put together to make one incredible society and culture who hold on to their tradition and history ,that is was and will always remain LEBANESE. Please consider sending your research team to do some traveling, learn geography and history, because now she is proving that the west and the east should not mix because you simply do not understand our way of life, obviously for us Tom Cruise jumping on a couch screaming ¿I love her¿ is not what we consider normal behavior.

Thank you and hopefully one day you will come to Lebanon and experience it for yourself.

ps: since its against the house rule to post any links i had to remove them, but please feel free to head over to youtube and type in Cal Perry Lebanon and check out the 3 clips by CNN and also look up Skybar Lebanon, also wikipedia and search famous Lebanese that should shock most of you.

I would like to thank Bonjus26 for his / her post. Lebanon is a
country where people are not robots who work from 8 – 5 and the days ends there.

The news only portrays the negative events that occur in Lebanon, war, riots and
so on but very rarely do they portray the positive aspects of this country such
as the reports by CNN, BBC and The New York Times. I would like to emphasize on
the point brought up by Bonjus26, regarding the research that is put into these
segments.

Many tourists whom I personally know and have showed them
around the country could not believe that a country in the Middle
East had such a lifestyle. I am not going to limit this topic to
Lebanese citizens, rather people living in Lebanon, are people who go for
drinks any day of the week and wake up the next morning for work, Lebanon is
anything but routine, conservativeness, or habitualness. The aforementioned Skybar
is a club that is fully booked everyday of the week for the entire 3 months of
summer and Skybar is only naming one of MANY clubs and pubs that would
represent an unbelievable party experience for anyone who visits Lebanon.
