Oprah Radio Format Change

Posted on Sep 28, 2009 2:24 PM

Dear Oprah Radio Friends,

You have requested more Oprah on Oprah Radio, and we are answering the call.

For the first time ever, audio from The Oprah Winfrey Show will be made available exclusively to listeners on Oprah Radio, SIRIUS 195 and XM 156. In addition to replaying the latest episode the day after it airs on TV, we will also be delivering daily classic shows from the 23-year history of The Oprah Show.

Based on this new format change, a number of your favorite hosts will be leaving the channel to continue to pursue their successful careers and to grow their brands. It has been an honor to work with these exceptional individuals, and we are grateful for the contributions they've made toward elevating the national dialogue and helping us all to live our best lives.

* Bob Greene
* Jean Chatzky
* Nate Berkus
* Peter Walsh
* Dr. Robin Smith
* Marianne Williamson
* John St. Augustine

We encourage you to continue to follow their work and their wisdom.

Thanks for listening!

Dear Harpo Bear,

Thank you for NOT replying to all the complaints on the message boards. The fact that instead you simply choose to re-post the same message over and over is all the message we need........which is that you really don't care what paying listeners think about the format changes on Oprah radio.

When Oprah and Friends was on the air I use to extend driving trips or literally just sit in my parked car to listen to a particular show that I loved, like the Soul Series or Marianne Williamson. Not anymore.

Now, when I get in the car, I turn on Oprah radio, realise it's a re-run of a show I watched yesterday or a replay of the Gayle King show......and then I switch the channel to another station.

Good news: Since you are so unresponsive to your loyal listeners, a new opportunity has been created for us....it's call Rosie O'Donnell's new show.

Is there anyway to replay these old shows from the personalities that have left ? This would help tremendously with the repetition we currently experience.

I love the programs and I listen daily while driving to and from work (3 hours). I also listen at the office, while working. Please mix it up a bit, it is too repetitive.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE, the programs, please rebroadcast the old shows of the personalities that have left.

Sending Love & God Blessings

I am so disappointed that the format has changed. I miss jean, Peter Wash, Dr Robin and John dearly.

What happened? I've watched Oprah since day one..and have had xm-radio from the start. I actually find myself changing the station now.

As much as I love the Oprah TV show, listening to it all day, every day is a bit boring. I hope you consider switching back. Please bring back my Friends

The Decline from the first year to the present is so unbelievable...I do not even listen to Gayle any more...What has happened to the inspiration that made up that first year? That was truley an invitation and instruction to live our best life. The continuing decline is bewildering...Oh how I miss the quality and uniqueness of the entire lineup from the groundbreaking-The New Earth to Schmuley. How amazing was The Course in Miracles with Marianne! Now that was instruction for living our best life...Dr Oz interviewing random talking heads-that is not an invitation to live our best life- My advice, either return to your original mission statement or cancel your station. its not worth listening to any more.

I totally agree. I can't remember the last time I listened, and I used to listen all the time, and rave about it to others.

I don't understand why Oprah would bother to continue to put out such a sub-standard product. In my mind, it has really damaged my opinion of her, including the way the format change has been handled.

The fact that those who are able to respond have not done so speaks volumes. If any of them had the least bit of respect for their listeners, they would have given us an honest answer.

IT"S OFFICIAL I HAVE NOW REMOVED OPHRAH RADIO FROM MY XM and will NOT RENEW...
IT IS NOW JUST A MARKETING TOOL..... No LONGER A MUCH NEEDED SPIRTUAL TOOL .. I WILL MISS MY MARIANNE WILLIAMSON, PETER WALSH ALL THE REASONS I SIGNED UP?

I CAN WATCH OPRAH ON TV BUT THIS IS A BAD CHOICE FOR THE RADIO.

I am sad , CHANGE IS NOT GOOD

I never really listen to the channel anymore. Who wants to hear an old Oprah show from 10 years ago? And getting rid of Marianne Williamson? Are you kidding? It was a good idea that has gotten really boring. I've taken the channel off my favorites and rarely if ever listen anymore.

I agree with everyone here. I had surgery a couple of weeks ago and haven't been in my car. Last week I started venturing out and low and behold all my fave radio hosts are gone. What the? I love Gayle. And I love Oprah. But I too have a DVR and don't miss any tv shows. I was bummed after the first change. I miss Rabi Schmuley, and the Peetes. I can see how everyone might not have loved them but I did. Now you got rid of Jean, John, Bob, Dr. Robin and Peter. Nate wasn't on that often but I liked his pgms too. The variety to address all of "my best life" concerns was what I loved about the station. Now every time I turn it on it is something I have already heard. BORING! I find myself flipping around the channel now trying to find something interesting. I haven't had it off xm 156 since the channel started. I have even started listening to local radio stations. Too bad. You had a great thing going with some very informative hosts. I hope you address this matter on your tv show because I won't be listening to reruns on xm anymore.

You know, as abstract as it seems and rather round about, I suspect, I very much suspect the following streaming video is a veiled attempt at addressing WHY...

http://www.oprah.com/media/20091007-radio-siriusxm-new-season-video

Regardless, I miss hearing other affiliated voices and other perspectives and the FRIENDS are deeply, deeply missed.

This isn't a tempest in a teapot. We valued what we had and could find it nowhere else, hence we glomed to it. Unfortunately those halcion days are over...

Very sad...very sad indeed.
