Could you please email me your list of Doctors? a6kab@msn.com
Hi Norakl,
Hi rkmegger,
hi i live in ny, nj, ct tri state area (new city, ny rockland county) and would love to know if you have any good doctor on your list focusing on bioidentical hormone in this vicinity. i currently use someone in arizona for many years but don't feel they are really skilled. i don't want someone who thinks they are a guru in your entire health either as many of these types do.
Several ladies that I have dealt with have had good experiences at the Menopause Center of MN, it's in St. Paul. I can't post the phone number, you will have to look it up.
You can get some GREAt information from an MD / RN team (and no prescription bioidentical hormones) if you just go to youtube and enter in "where can I buy bioidentical hormones." Or Google the name of Clinical Nurse Specialist and author - "Corinne Peachment." You'll find the website along with testimonials and an award-winning TV News video. Good luck.
First of all, the strength of the bioidentical hormones purchased over the counter or over the Internet are not nearly at the same strength as ones prescribed by a doctor and purchased at a pharmacy/compounding pharmacy. They are in large part a waste of money, and of course, they are not covered under insurance. Let me put a myth to rest, *it is absolutely NOT TRUE that health insurance will never cover bioidentical hormones. *Most physicians who truly are experts in BHRT do not accept insurances in their practices, because the insurance companies flatly refuse to pay for hormone balancing (which is very short sighted, since a hormonally balanced patient is a healthier, thus less expensive patient), or the reiumbursement rates are so low that a physician would be forced to see multiple patients in an hour. One of the important components of true bioidentical hormone replacement therapy balance is the doctor doing more than just looking at a set of lab values----it takes time to take a complete history of a patient, an exam, and a frank discussion about the patient's symptoms, amount of time experiencing discomfort, family medical history, etc. Most of the doctors who are proficient in BHRT spend about an hour with a patient at the first visit---the insurance companies pay for about 10 minutes worth of time. My health insurance does pay for more than half the cost of my hormones (progesterone, testosterone, estriol cream for vaginal dryness, and my thyroid hormones) so my out of pocket expense for a month is about $40-45. That's way less than the $750 my insurance company and I were paying for the 7 medications I no longer take. Bioidentical hormones are safe, far safer than the synthetic Premarin/Prempro hormones still (despite all the evidence of increased cancer risk) being prescribed by too many doctors-----but hormones are powerful substances, and absolutely without a doubt should only be taken when needed, in appropriate, physiological doses, and under a doctor's supervision. Some of these websites promote no prescription and no testing needed------that's absolutely nuts and it's taking a great risk with your health. Many women in menopause (me included) are what is known as estrogen dominant----and you have no way of knowing for sure unless you get a hormone panel. You could significantly raise your cancer risk by adding additional estrogen to the already too much estrogen in your body (without proper balancing of progesterone)-----this is important, this is your health you are talking about
I just typed "bioidentical hormones" into the seach field on google and I got a ton of information on different treaments and procedures that can be done to help with hormone imbalance. I saw that Oprah came up a lot and I figured I'd check out the site and I must say, I'm impressed. This a great resource for anyone who is on fence about trying bioidenticals. I found a few different links on here to different physicians that specialize in this kind of thing and I also found out that there are actually acadamies that train these doctors to practice what they're calling "alternative medicine." I'm really starting to watch what I'm eating and I've even conjoured up the energy to work-out five times a week. I've been reading that fitness and nutrition are a great way to keep your hormones balanced, especially as we start to get older and our hormones begin to decline. The trouble is, even with a good diet and plenty of exercise, I'm still not quite feeling myself. I feel run-down and tired. I'm really starting to think that it's hormonal. I've been reading about andropause, does anyone know anything about it? I know that it's the "male menopause" and all, but how do I know if I'm experiencing true andropause?
I don't know whether or not you found anyone yet, but I recently discovered a great bioidentical hormone specialist in the St. Paul/Minneapolis area. His name is Dr. Gregory Pippert (I'm pretty sure that's how it's spelled). I found him through a google search and his i saw he even had some videos on youtube, and he seemed to know what he was talking about and it made a lot of sense. My sister lives in Chicago and we found out that Dr. Pippert is actually a part of a national network of physicians who all specialize in biodientical hormone therapy, called Body logic MD. She just started with a doctor in Chicago, I don't know what his name is, but I've heard great things. You can search it on google and you'll get a whole bunch of locations and physicians. Their website is also very informative and has a lot of information on different health-realted topics.
There are tons of Internet resources on andropause---I just type in the word and Body Logic's website lists 10 symptoms:
I also live in the Chicago area and am looking for doctors who specialize, or at least are very knowledgable, about bio-identical hormones.
