"Dr." Oz is a fraud

I have only read one article and I have found more mistakes in his statements than someone else who is spouting about the same topic.

http://www.oprah.com/slideshow/oprahshow/slideshow1_ss_yourbody_embarrassing#login_link

I posted comments on his mistakes, but they're not up yet. So I will go through them again.

1) He says the stomach digests food. This is wrong. The only thing that the stomach digests is protein and it only partially digests protein into amino acids. The small intestine is what digests and absorbs food. The only function of the stomach is to churn food with the gastric acids to form a paste called chyme. Chyme enters the first of 3 parts of the small intestines. This part is called the duodenum. Food is digested HERE. Fats become fatty acids, proteins become amino acids, starchs become simple sugars.

2) Then he says this:
Then greenish brown bile produced in the liver is added to help the breakdown of these fats. By the time the food leaves your stomach and passes into the small intestine, it's unrecognizable.
He must have failed anatomy because the gallbladder (the organ that stores the bile created by the liver) is attached to the duodenum of the small intestines. The food is turned into an unrecognizable paste in the stomach and then the bile is released to help digest fats into fatty acids. the mid part of the small intestines is called the jejunum, this part absorbs the macronutrients. The third part called the ileum is where most of the immune system of the digestion system is (called peyer's patches) and the function of this part of the small intestines is to take care of the rest. Then the left over waste is then moved into the large intestine where the main function of this organ is for water absorption.

3) He says it takes 2-3 days for steak to digest. There are more important factors that he didn't discuss and therefore makes him wrong. It can take 2-3 days if you are deficient in fiber. What he says contradicts himself:
A steak dinner can take you two, maybe three days to get out of your intestine. What that means is the way you digest it is basically to rot it in your intestines
Which contradicts this:
In the stomach, the food is broken down into easily absorbable ingredients: proteins, sugars and fats.
When someone says food is broken down, it's leymen terms for digestion.

This guy is not a doctor. I have met premed students that were rejected from many medical schools know more than this quack does. He should be embarrassed to even be on TV. He takes advantage of people's lack of knowledge in biochemistry and throws the word "doctor" in front of his name to make people think that he knows what he's talking about. He's not fooling this medical student. He does NOT have an MD or DO. If someone will show me his liscence then I will believe it, but then I would report him to the AMA.

I have to soooo agree with this claim. Dr Oz is either a fraud or an incredibly incompetent doctor. He makes reference to 'cleansing the colon' - which actually does not need to be cleansed. He makes reference to fat in the bowel movements in reference to weight loss - and these would not be connected. He claims to know so much about nutrition, and really he knows nothing. He promotes ideas and concepts that could be detrimental to people...

He totally comes across as a QUACK, and he continually comes back to preach more. I don't know what his real credentials are, but I am 99.9% sure he is not a medical doctor of any sort. I read somewhere that he is a cardiologist... I still wouldn't trust him... So far on the OPRAH show, he is a specialist in Nutrition, Dieting and weight management, dermatology, mental health, relationships, gastro-intestinal functioning, and who knows what else.... These are all specialist areas... The man is a QUACK!!

I am so disappointed that OPRAH would promote him to his own show - Oh the DAMAGE to the public will begin soon....

Not in my body, it's not. ;) I haven't had a gallbladder in my body for 25 years.

Well I wouldn't go as far as to call him a fraud, but I will say this. "Someone that "knows" about a lot of topics usually has very little knowledge within each topic."

I know that he has discussed quitting smoking and was very off based and just said the same old conventional wisdom that these so called quit smoking experts have been saying for years. The fact is Dr. Oz probably gets cue cards to read from people that research the topic for him that he discusses on the Oprah show. Because I know as the follow up shows continued, it got farther and farther away from the task at hand and completely went sideways and became a joke. The man should not be discussing how to quit smoking and also his two collegues on the show were also just as ridiculous in their statements.

I almost bought the book You: the manual, but after seeing the show on quitting smoking, I realized that if they had no insight in quitting smoking & that I really didn't want to follow what would most likely be just conventional wisdom in other aspects.

Dr. Phil part 2 in my opinion.

I have personally spoke with Dr. Oz.. On one occasion he texed me info on a product supplement called Veema. Since then he seems to have recanted. We spoke about Coumadin and I consider him "dead on". From watching him, I believe him to be an extemely well educated CardioThroracic Surgeon with a great way to put things in laymen's terms and wanting to open peoples minds with different philosophies, but as said before, you simply can not specialize in everything. One on one I believe he has a brilliant mind though I believe he does want to be too many things to too many people. I think the word Fraud is not the way do describe him. I would say "super professor and practitioner of heart surgery and well versed in a great many areas". They call it practicing medicine for a reason. No one is perfect and now with molecular biology and nano technology evrything will be outdated in 20 years.
