Lose the glasses Oprah and provide more variety on your show.

The glasses make you look silly, not smarter. Some show ideas are as follows. Please put more variety and not so much Dr. Oz or Hollywood type shows. These would make good shows in my opinion. * Mental and medical illness and how it affects families * How to cope when life brings bad times. * Bullying of women on internet message boards. *Teaching women to respect themselves so as to not accept bad relationships. * Best ways to bring up children, what children need in families and what they don't need. *How to fight urges to spend money. *People who inspire other people. I hope these ideas will help your shows become more interesting. You use to have such interesting shows, but now I check the subject and usually just turn off the tv when I see your guests and/or subject material.

This is in reply to paddy123's post. I've been watching Oprah for many years, and her show has covered each and every one of the topics you suggested, many several times. Regarding your comment about her glasses making her look silly, not smart: I wonder why you would first judge and then insult her?

Wow! This is the first time that I've ever looked upon the "message board", let alone respond to one, but your comments leave me wondering if I'll ever return. Have you actually ever watched an Oprah episode? From your commetns, I think not. Suggesting to Oprah that she have shows that show "people who inspire people" is like telling the Pope to pray. And lose the glasses? Is that what's important to you? I think the glasses look great but who cares if they do or they don't? She is an individual who does what she wants. Did you ever think she might need to wear them? There are some talk shows earlier in the day that might be better suited for you, but that's just my opinion.

I've been watching Oprah for over twenty years. I've seen good shows. Very good shows. But now she seems to do more Hollywood than any other type show. I know she had done each and every show that I mentioned, but those are the shows that people watch and want. I'm like anyone else and enjoy a good show about Hollywood types, but enough is enough. It's like Oprah has lost her focus and I hate to see that happening. Maybe this is happening because she has new producers, I'm really not sure why it has happened, but whichever producers thinks up these shows, they need a better way to find out what the public wants because Hollywood isn't it. Women are not that shallow. There are enough issues affecting women that she could never run out of material. It's a shame to provide fluff when she has the opportunity to provide substance. Last year I noticed a trend toward "Springer" type shows. They were made fun of on news shows and then they stopped. Thank goodness for that. Do we really needs more "Springer" type shows. If you don't remember the main one, it was the one where the gay woman found out her husband was also gay. I think they even did a skit regarding that episode on "Saturday Night Live". I want Oprah to stay on the air for a long, long time. I love her show, but I don't watch nearly as much anymore. I'm not alone as I've found many women who no longer watch. Today's show looks very promising. It hasn't come on here yet, it will be on in a few minutes. I also think I'm not alone regarding her putting on glasses during Dr. Oz's days. Other message boards have discussed it. She looks cute in them and should wear them, but not to only make her look smart. I have only two other complaints about Oprah. I've noticed over the last few years that she has begun to brag about her things. She once said that she has never even thought of people not having enough money to buy food, when she drops into a store to buy something quick to eat. That made me think that she is really out of touch because of her success and money. I'm sure it is hard to remember the hard times, but someone needs to tell her that there are still very poor people in the world. It really puts people off when she brags about her six-hundred dollar shoes that she says she can only wear one minute. Not many women in America wear six-hundred dollar one minute shoes. That is really out of touch. My last complaint is that she has started talking over her guests. She sometimes says what the guest should say and I've noticed that sometimes the guests find it hard to correct her. Lastly, I don't think that I should be made to feel like I cannot critique Oprah and her show. She is a public person and if everyone walks on eggshells around her, then she will never grow. She is a big girl and I believe she can take it. When Oprah is good, she is great. When Oprah isn't good, people don't watch. Please Oprah, provide the good episodes that you used to provide. Just because other media persons have taken their shows down the low road or to Hollywood, you shouldn't follow suit.

i think oprah was wearing glasses because she needed them - not to make her look any certain way...who knows? strange that this is what you remember about the show... i was more impressed by what i was learning rather than passing judgement on what she was wearing...

i'm a therapist. i like the meaty, real life, real people shows... then there are the movie star type shows... i watch all the meaty ones first, then when i run out, i go back and look at the moviestar ones... they're all on the tivo... i think it's funny when oprah talks about her stuff.. it's almost like she's making fun of herself for having it... i also think she really appreciates all her blessings... i never take it as bragging... because i feel she would respect me even though i don't have money... usually i feel that people are bragging when they would try to make me feel small... oprah seems to love everybody and that she just notices that she has great material wealth but is not invested in it... it is not who she is... i think she gets more identity from the things she does in the world rather than her possessions... the things are just the way she plays... i never get the feeling she thinks she is better than people who don't have as much...although if she ever comes to my house i must remember to put out a fresh bar of soap and make sure the towels hanging in the bathroom are a matched set.. (but they don't have to be expensive...)
