I recently heard that we should not take our vitamins with orange juice....something about the acidity of the orange juice destroying some of the vitamins. Is there any validity to this?

Hello Dr. Oz,

I love when you are on the show. You know everything. I am a 35 year old women and I was wondering if I should be taking vitamins, if so what kind? Also, my bones in my legs click when I walk. What is that and what can I do for it?

If 2-3 times a week is the 'healthy' schedule for sex, then does the big M count? Not intending to be crass, but is an orgasm an orgasm regardless of how many players it takes to get there? Many of us don't have access to the recommended level of stud service. Thanks for humoring me.

The Anti-Aging Checklist shows 66mg twice a day for calcium. In the recap of the segment, 600mg of calcium twice per day was noted. Which is correct?

Hi Dr. Oz, saw the show yesterday. One question: Are those really sweet potatoes or are they Yams? Most people call yams sweet potatoes. Yams are orange inside and sweet potatoes are white inside and really are not sweet. Can you please clarify. Thankyou.

Oprah, Thank you very much for having Dr. OZ on your wonderful and blessed show yesterday 02/05/08. I' am eating right now because I also have some health problems that I can control by doing the things Dr. OZ spoke of. I eat a lot of raw vegetables now, I love to cut my veggies in small pieces and put a low calorie dressing on it. This is what I eat for lunch everyday now and I feel 100 percent better. I have thyroid disease also it is always up or down, I lose weight hair fall out, nails break, and I sweat more. This is why I started to eat right, because I can live longer if I eat right. I was 216lbs 3 mos ago and now I' am 195lbs, my gold is to get down to at least 150lbs. I will continue to pray for you, Dr. Oz, and your staff, thank you so very much and please continue to be Oprah, you are blessed.

mthomp12,

have you thought about seeing an alternative or holistic doctor to see if there is something you can do to limit the use of the meds... they are brutal and explain the weight gain. good luck and take care.

dmpierson,

i saw on the early show this morning that many things should not be taken with juices, etc. you might want to go to your search engine and search for the show. they were focusing on prescription drugs and not vitamins, but the information was very valuable. if you take antidepressants you should really only drink water 2 hours before and 2 hours after or you'll disrupt the meds.... very interesting.

re: aspirin...a "regular" aspirin has 325 mg. so if you cut it in half = 162.5 mg (you can't cut the coated ones in half, only the ones that are scored with a line) which wouuld be the same dose as 2, 81 mg.

I have to agree with this poster............._not all of us_ "ladies" have access to a partner to engage in intimate activities with. (I would like to...........but that's another show.) Are we doomed to shorter lives because of something beyond our control?? +Anyway+, I really do like Dr. Oz and his shows (I'm partial to the street clothes....) however, I was a little disheartened by this one. I don't EAT most of the stuff he showed........I _don't like_ blueberries, broccoli, tomatoes, flaxseed(!), etc. and have had no reason whatsoever to use Olive Oil at all. (Not to mention the expense involved...I'm on a fixed income and some of this can get expensive) I know some of this stuff can be found in supplements. Dr. Oz didn't even touch upon the Vitamin B family and how important they are; and, I've recently heard about Co-Enzyme 10 and how it helps. As far as the baby aspirin, what about mixing it with other pain relievers......ibuprofen, Tylenol, and even stronger ones!? With my knees and weight I couldn't begin to do the yoga/exercises he was talking about. Yes, losing weight will help....but arthritis is here to stay. I would like to see him do a show for people with disabilities and food alternatives. I know you can only touch upon so much in a hour (45 min) so maybe that's an idea! *JMO :)*

I believe green and black teas are best if you want antioxidants. I don't know whether any of them are low in caffeine but you might Google a while and see if you can locate one. I found this interesting and it indicates the xanthine content might have some benefit: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12960921

Hi Dr. Oz My husband was recently diagnosed with Macula Degeneration, the Dry form, in both eyes & was advised to take special Vitamins to help slow down the progression. He use to smoke & was told to take “I Caps”, because it does not contain any Vitamin A. They said Vitamin A can cause Lung Cancer…especially if you previously smoked cigarettes. What are your thoughts about this since Vitamin A is in your Vitamin protocol.

I will tell you what I do. I usually do not have my tea hot. I put the tea bags in cold water and shake, and allow them to stand for a half hour or so, then I remove the tea bags and add sweetener, fruit, soy protein and flax seed powder. I make the flax seed powder by putting whole seeds in the coffee grinder. This way, none of the beneficial substances in the tea will be inactivated by heat. I am not at all certain that the beneficial substances are harmed by using hot water, so long as the water is not boiled with the tea in it.

BTW for people who drink coffee. Always use a paper filter when you make coffee. If you do not, the oils which would have been trapped in a filter might end up in your drink and could elevate cholesterol and triglycerides.
