The Judge

Posted on May 10, 2009 1:54 PM

The whole courtroom was shocked to hear the name of the accused announced by the baliff. It is the judges son and he had been charged with drunken and reckless driving. The judge hopes his son is innocent. He loves his son with all of his heart. But if the evidence proves his guilt, he as the judge is bound to enforce and uphold the law. If he randomly chose to let lawbreakers go, he would be an unjust and corrupt judge. The law in this case states that if found guilty there is a minimum of a $5,000 fine or 9 months in jail.

As the evidence is presented, the heart of the judge sinks further with every detail that gives ironclad proof of his son's guilt. Turning to his son the judge asks him if he has anything to say for himself.

"Well dad I know that I am guilty but I only drove like that this one time and you know that I am basically a good person. I mean I help those in need, I give to charity, I treat my family right and I have always supported them and kept a job. I am hoping that you can just let me go this one time, I will never do anything wrong again. Besides there are people out there that do far worse things then I have done. Please let me go."

The judge listens to his son but he knows that good works do not cancel out bad works. He also must have a standard to be a judge and that standard cannot be to other people. It must be what is written in the law. The law has been broken and as a good and just judge, he is bound by the law to punish those that break it. But in this case he is torn by the great love he has for his son.

Turning again to his son he tells him, "I am sorry son I love you, but as much as I would like to let you go I am bound by the law. The minimum punishment for this crime is a $5,000 fine or 9 months in jail."

The son with tears running down his cheeks pleads with his father (the judge), "but I do not have that much money and cannot bear the thought of going to jail. Is there any way to avoid it."

The judge stands up and takes off his robe and steps down to the son's level. He reaches into his pocket and pulls out $5,000 and offers it to his son. The son is surprised and hesitates for a moment but he realizes that the only way he can go free is to accept the gift his father is offering him. As soon as the fine is paid he can go free.

God is in a similar situation with us. He is caught in the middle of His own laws requirement for justice and righteousness and his immense love for us. His law requires sin to be punished but His love wants to set us free. The only way that God can remain righteous and just and also let us go free is if someone else will voluntarily take our punishment, be our substitute. The volunteer must be sinless so that the law will not have any just reason to punish Him. This way the punishment He receives can be credited to us. Since none of us are sinless, God came down to our level to save us through his sinless Son. Jesus Christ, God in the flesh freely offered himself as the perfect sinless substitute. His payment fully satisfied the requirement of the law and made the only way for us to be set free.

This is why Jesus said: "I am the way, the truth and the life and no one comes to the Father except by Me." John 14:6

If you think that you are a good person before God and have nothing to fear on judgment day it is because you are using other people to judge your own goodness, For example: Hitler was far worse than most of us. The problem with this thinking is that the Bible tells us God uses His perfect standard to judge us, not other people, and we all fall short. Romans 3:23. You can see where you stand by looking at the 10 commandments. Have you ever lied, stolen, used Gods name in vain? His perfect justice extends all the way to liars who will need to pay for their own sins for eternity if they refuse to accept the payment that Jesus has made on their behalf.

Just like the judges son must use his free will to accept the $5,000 payment before he can benefit from it. We too must accept the gift of grace that God is offering us. He desires to save you or He would have never sent His son. I encourage you to accept His gift of grace today.

Repent and place your faith in Christ now!!! John 3:16-18

I believe the Bible is Gods Word and trust that it is my foundation. I can rely on it. If God speaks to me He does not contradict His Word.

I have seen some of your posts and I believe you agree.

Gal 3:24 Paul said : The law was a schoolmaster to lead me to Chist.

John 6:29: this is the work that you must do, BELIEVE!!! You are on target,God wants our trust in Him.

Gods kidness is designed to lead us to believe but I am speaking mainly to those with a hard heart that reject Christ. For that Gal 3:24 and many others apply. God loves us so much that if we reject His general love for us like many do. He uses His law to drive us to the Savior. If that does not work then a person is potentially lost but God never gives up.

God Bless, Mike

Gal 3:24 Do you know why the law leads us to Christ?

Because under the law we are not free. Freedom is found through Christ.

How did the law "lead" you to Jesus? I don't mean to sound condescending, but I am truly interested in how people come about their faith.

And yes, God does speak to me also through his Word.

I wandered for a long time but God obviously knew my sincerity of heart. At one time I believed as many of the new agers do on these posts. God showed me the truth through others and through His Word over time. Now He has callled me and my wife to share the truth with everyone.

On the cross Gods law was satisfied as it had to be for a righteous and just God. On the cross He also made a way to satisfy the intense love He has for us. Now it is up to everyones free will.

God Bless, Mike

I came to Christ before I knew the law. I came to Him to have a better life but through the law I realize I need Him primarily for righteousness, then all other things will be added.

I heard that GOD IS LOVE, and LOVE IS GOD. If so than if we truly love God we automatically feel that love be it deserved or not and when we realize God loves us unconditionally than we automatically are sorry for our sins and change. LOVE does that when we feel it deep in our heart and soul. I wish this whole world LOVE!

God himself is not limited by his own laws --- God himself IS the law. God, in this analogy, cannot therefore be equal to the 'judge' -- God in this analogy would have to equal the law itself.

Making up stories that are claimed to be based on the knowledge of God, can be fun. Hitler did that too. Except what he did with his pretending....well, that wasn't much fun at all. Same with the Roman Catholic church, they used their pretend knowledge of God, into never before witnessed levels of violence and power.

Perhaps when one want's to pretend to posess the knowledge of God, one should limit it to "pretend" and not to truth.

Perhaps they should, for God's sake, think there is a possibility, they might be mistaken.

But let's "pretend" your story is real.

God is the judge.

God becomes Jesus.

Commits no crime.

Goes to court and volunteers to take the punishment for every crime ever committed before and committed forever after.

God, as the judge, accepts this deal from himself as Jesus the criminal.

Then according to your story, God must obey his own laws of crime and punishment.

The punishment must therefore be eternal damnation in hell, or pay the fine for everyone's crime.

If God damns himself to hell, then NOBODY is on the judge's bench, and all criminals walk free.

If God pays all fines for every crime, then NOBODY has to pay, and all criminals walk free.

The court house is forever closed.

It's just pretend of course, so there could also be a pretend loophole in the deal, where criminals have to know a secret word or handshake, or they don't go free. But that would be God being deceitful to himself.

Ahh, the games humans play on each other..

First of all any honorable judge would recuse himself. It's a conflict of interest to preside over your own son's case.

But more importantly, what's a judge doing with $5000 in his pocket? I smell corruption!

True that my friend, I won't go back to those ways, I have seen the evil ways humans play games with the minds of people.

Well aware, well aware.

Seek the truth.

FG,

Jesus did fufill the law and take every persons sins upon himself but the Bible tells us that because He was sinless, death had no hold on Him.

Yes it is a story but it is based on the truth. Not everything is truth. The most reasonable thing to do if you believe there is a God is to examine the evidence. Many people on these boards want to make God whatever they want Him to be. That is so ironic because you and so many on here are so adamant that you can be who you want to be and decide what you want . But as for God, He must be how you want Him to be based on your feelings and what tickles your ears. Maybe You refuse to examine the mountains of evidence because you have already made up your mind.

The truth is God is God and he is not subject to your whims and feelings. He is righteous, just and holy. His law requires payment for law breaking and He loves you so He has made the payment for you. I am sure you have lied, stolen used Gods name in vain. You are guilty like all of us and need a Savior. The choice is yours. God will not force you to accept His gift of grace. I am just sharing the truth with you. I had to examine the evidence myself before I really believed.
