Chapter 3

Posted on Jul 24, 2008 7:19 AM

In his British accent the professor said "I'll just be a minute, I have to make my move on the chessboard." Only when he looked at the chessboard he noticed he had already made that move and then in German he said "Was haben die älteren Kinder tun, aber ich mag den Umzug ist es Schachmatt!" Translated in English means "What have those older kids done, but I like the move it is checkmate!" The young German teacher said, "Be careful not to speak German in the open like that."

Slowly the three move towards the door and the three little children under the desk see the four pant legs and the two silk stocking legs move out the door and close the door behind them. The three little children had sat quietly hold their hands over their mouths and the toy was between them, so it would not rattle as it rolled back and forth.

The little girl's best friend's soon to be step brother got up from under the desk. He looked at the chessboard and said "They're army men!" To him that would be more fun to play with than something that rattled. The little four year old girl looked at him and said "Don't touch that."

The little four year old girl knew one of the professors, she had been to his home when he had told an other young assistant professor to show him how to discipline his son for not knowing what chaos was. She knew if he touched or played with one of those army men that he would be punished like he'd never been punished before.

The little four year old girl shrugged her shoulders and said "Boys, they never listen."

Her best friend's soon to be step brother didn't listen to her and started picking up each piece and looking at each one slowly and then putting it back in its position. He knew alot about army men. His father read him books about the different soldiers from around the world. What kind of clothes they were and what colors each army wore for each country. Her best friend would sleep in his soon to be step brother's room in which the two of them spent hours playing it was filled with pictures of armies and the bookshelf had picture books of the same. To her best friend's soon to be step brother this was heaven.

"One side has a German army, hey look." he said.

Her best friend turned around and looked when his soon to be step brother picked up another piece and said "This side is British!".

Her best friend then picked up one of the pieces and said "I know this one it is American!"

The chessboard was special. It had little ponds and trees and grass, some houses and was spread across the two gigantic desks. The soon to be step brother said "It is the world!" He then said, "They like to play army just like my dad and I."

Her best friend had once again gone under the desk and was playing with his toy. The little girl had her own idea and began to look at the papers on the other desk.
