When We Were Young

Posted on Nov 30, 2007 8:55 PM

Silly remembering when you see a movie in which Dick Clark was the main character and that some of the scenes were shot in Toronto, Canada way back in 1958. The dog by the fence when the football game was on belonged to Warren.

My mom nor dad were with me only my best friend and his father were. Charles' father wanted to see an up and coming singer, movie star only the girls screamed for the blonde one. We didn't stay long because Charles was going for more testing with the professors and I was going with him to keep him company because we were going to play all weekend.

Charles and I could walk Huckle Hush puppy because Huckle would make funny noises. The only person who talked with us was Warren. Dick Clark was always reading the script to remember the lines.

Dick Clark was the other guy with Merv Griffin. They all wanted to see the professors at the university at the end of the filming for the day.:x

At the time it wasn't anything I was interested in; only my best friend's father took him everywhere and I went along when I played with Charles. What can two four years old do with sooo many adults around. "Be seen and not heard!!!``.

Which usually wasn`t the case. More like ``Be heard and not seen``. Make noises like Huckle and hide behind an adult.

So much for that memory.

The movie ``When they were young`` was on Drive In Theatre.

I wonder if he remembers, saving Charles. He didn`t have to remember which leg to limp on after.

The American Thanksgiving

Posted on Nov 28, 2007 4:16 PM

This year my husband and I made it down to our son and his wife's family's Thanksgiving celebrations.

It rained all the way down the night we drove down.

This was the second time we celebrated with both families. The time before was when my son and his wife were just engaged. Now they are married one year.

It was a joyous occasion with her brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews. The women cooking in the kitchen. One of the sisters playing the piano and a sister-in-law singing. The young children playing, taking naps, and running up and downstairs between the women in the kitchen and the men downstairs watching all the football games.

When the turkey was ready all was quiet for prayer of thanksgiving and then the eating began. We eat so much and yet there was plenty of leftovers.

We all pitched in with the cleanup.

Then the women and children played a game together. Some men took a nap while others watched the football games while resting their eyes.

The next day is known as Black Friday. I think they should change that to Positive Friday as the stores sales show their best positive figure on that day for the whole year.

The four days down at my son and his wife's home is a time we'll try to make each year. And they in turn can come up here for the Canadian Thanksgiving in October.":x"

Movies

Movies today men will say have a feminist point of view and content.

So when a movie shows a woman going to the rescue of a man, they think that women are trying to be more powerful. Only I think that it shows that either gender cares enough to risk their own lifes for each other.";\"

Photography

Posted on Nov 10, 2007 7:54 PM

I love taking pictures and have taken many photographs of my son and daughter growing up and now that they have moved on with their lives I have found a new subject to photograph.

Wildlife especially the birds, such as ducks and Canada geese. I'm becoming better at using the digital camera. Sometimes my pictures are slightly out of focus. Wildlife move fast, especially on water. Just add music to the slide show and the slightly out of focus blends into the music.

Now that I've been taking pictures of wildlife for six years I can see the difference as the photographs and composition are becoming more professional looking. I'm just an ameteur who enjoys the beauty and now sees the expressions of individual birds as they mingle together.

Even animals are unique of each other even though they look the same.

The Stamps and Who could YELL the LOUDEST

Posted on Nov 10, 2007 7:20 PM

Ahh!!! Watching ET Weekend and watched Carol Burnett do her Tarzan yell.

Funny, because now I remember that she challenged another student at the swimming pool for what she called Old Stamps in exchange for their value.

He was someone called Tarzan and she was taking swimming lessons (How not to splash the cameras while swimming). The poor swimming instructor Ms. Williams. Here are two students challenging each other to who could yell the loudest. She won, and he thought he was getting some rare stamps. Only it turned out to be food stamps. So much for rare stamps.":^0"

The little six year old (now very much older) finally remembered that if she got a tv show she'd do the tarzan yell.

":D"

Not sure why I remember now only when I saw the old picture of you and your mom did it click.

Warehouse Sales

Posted on Nov 9, 2007 5:39 PM

Once a year I go to a warehouse sale. Yesterday I went to Johnson & Johnson Warehouse Sale located pretty much 5 minutes from my home in Scarborough.

I was only going to buy a few things and ended up with more. Good thing they take visa.

Memories because Charles' father was one of the owners of Johnson & Johnson and he bought the Baby Shampoo at a local drugstore and it hurt our eyes. He always bought the products in the stores to see that the quality was up to standards. That was 50 years ago.

And now I bought products in the Johnson & Johnson Warehouse and the products seem to me up to standard. There are so many products that Johnson & Johnson owns or created. Thank goodness it is theirs. I'll just buy and use the products I like.

Keep up the good work.

Converting Old Vinyl Records to MP3

Posted on Nov 4, 2007 3:13 PM

These past few days I have been converting old vinyl records to MP3. Some of the records belonged to my mom and dad. They bought them a long time ago for 99 cents or $1.00 something at Honest Eds'. They had played them a few times only I played them most of the time. I never really remembered until now why some songs were special.

They now remind me of Charles who died at age 5. One song was Charlie my boy that his father sang to him to make him laugh and feel special. Even though I was just Charles' best friend I was given a song too. "I love you truly" because I thought they were singing I love you Trudy.

People are right when they said almost everything will remind you of your past now because you are remembering. I only wished I had remembered a long time ago before I was married and had a family. There is nothing I can do only remember and move on with life and my family and that's not easy.

Converting Old vinyl records to MP3 is easier.
