Our next show...

Posted on Mar 11, 2009 3:37 PM

One of the best parts of my job as an Oprah producer is getting to see "behind the scenes" of really fascinating worlds. So I get really excited when we can show our viewers an inside peek at places that are normally off-limits. My next show will give you a "fly on the wall experience" - an all-access pass to three lifestyles that we never get to see.

AMERICAN IDOL BACKSTAGE TOUR - Ryan Seacrest has promised to unlock all the backstage secrets when he takes us on a private tour before, during and after tonight's show. Were not sure what to expect when Ryan pops into dressing rooms unannounced, but we know it will be good! Gail, our own rock star field producer, also shot backstage at last night's show and says she already has enough juicy tape for a whole show. We hear the judges have a big twist to announce tonight -- it should make for riveting behind-the-scenes television.

THE ROYALS - My team and I are obsessed with this documentary on life inside Windsor Castle. A British film crew spent an entire year inside Queen Elizabeth's weekend home and caught everything that happened behind the palace gates. The footage is over-the-top magnificent. Our biggest challenge is deciding how to trim the documentary because there is so much that blows our minds. It is hard to believe the rituals, the preparation and the perfection until you see it with your own eyes.

VALENTINO - Writing the show script for Valentino has been a challenge because it's hard to find enough flattering words to describe this fashion icon. He is an absolute artistic genius. Even if you don't follow fashion -- it's fun and fascinating to see his ideas transform from an idea in his head into a drop dead gorgeous masterpiece. Cameras followed him for 2 years -- you'll see every aspect of his dramatic and luxurious life. Today we're revising the scripts for these videos and finalizing travel arrangements for Valentino to join Oprah on stage.

Dear Producer TM:

Fantastic choices ! I am particularly over joyed with The Royals and
Valentino. In a past Oprah.com older format of the journals, I expressed a wish to see Ms. Winfrey interview H.R.H. Queen Elizabeth the II. When I read your blog I immediately thought my wish was fully coming to reality.
I still believe that it will, and perhaps this is part I.

Valentino is one of the few male designers that I believe always shows his true love of the female being. I design, and when I would dream of not working on my own, but for someone else he was my first choice. I am classic fashioned. I too believe a woman should be made to look absoulutely beautiful no matter what. I do not agree with these hard and edgy and drug looks that fashion markets so often, nor this often pushed outer space; other world or gothic looks.

Thanks again for the pre-production notes !

The only show I recognized is AI and I haven't really watched much of it in a while. Do you think there's (hopefully) more upcoming TV trend other than reality shows? Maybe shows on each American town, history and current affairs which might broaden the interest of the people and develop more empathy. Anyway, shows that might tickle other parts of the brain matter and the heart more lol I'm with Mz O, many reality shows seem designed to humiliate people and for some reason the society thinks it's ok. Just my thoughts :)

I can't wait! The only "upside" of unemployment is being home to see the shows.

Hey Everybody! It's ProducerGS. I work with ProducerTM and she taped her show on The Royals, American Idol and Valentino today. It's airing on Monday, March 16th -- and I can tell you -- IT'S A CAN'T MISS HOUR! One of my favorite shows of the year. We can't wait to hear what you think about it! PS: I'm moving to London live with the Queen.

ok, I am SO hooked and on the edge of my seat...and can't wait to watch this show!!!

Have you ever read the book 'Up the Creek with a Paddle' by Mary Bradley? What do you think of it? have you ever heard of Low Dose Naltrexone...LDN? I saw this on Facebook and I'd like your opinion. I have great faith in what you think. Maybe you could do a show referencing the author and the Doctor of whom she speaks. BTW...I have Multiple Sclerosis.

i CAN NOT wait to see this!!!!! I've always been so interested in the royal family and anything fashion!!

Hi there! This is so exciting! I've been writing the Oprah show for 30 days now. I promised my daughter, who is two and has a Congenital Heart Defect, that I would write for one full year in hopes to spread awareness. There is a powerful message that needs to be sent to your audience. CHD's are the #1 birth defect, 1 out of 100 babies are born with some form of a heart defect. Imagine how many of your viewers have CHD babies. I really feel this would be a ground breaking show and very effective for you viewers. Many would relate and even more would become aware of this rising defect. Just to give you an idea of how serious this is, our now two year old daughter just had her 3rd heart surgery, her second open heart! Crazy right! I promised her that I would do all I could to get the message out there! Please help me on my mission! Thanks for your time and consideration.

I loved the sneek peek inside the Royal Castle - I can't beleive the attention to detail that goes into every event.

Keep doing shows on behind the scenes - anything that is not normally shown & is "secret". Inquiring minds want to know :).

I saw a first look @ Oprah's office when she skyped ELLEN today...
What about a sneek peek inside Oprah's home & life?

I wanted to suggest a possible future Oprah Show. Being that October is Breast Cancer Awareness, I think it would be FABULOUS to have a survivor show for those who have survived all types of cancer. Possibly a "DREAM COME TRUE" type show...granting wishes and making their ultimate dream a reality. I can tell you my mother in law's dream come true would be to be invited as an audience guest to see Oprah. My mother in law is truly the ULTIMATE OPRAH FAN and has been for many years. I honestly don't think she's missed a single show in at least 10 years, she subcribes to her magazine, reads her recommended books, is always passing along advice or suggestions heard on Oprah, and considers her to be very uplifting and motivational! My mother in law recently received a clean bill of health after battling ovarian cancer that nearly cost her her life. It was a very long uphill battle for both her and my father in law who was by her side the whole way. My husband is 1 of 6 kids and each of the kids took their turn to fly in for what they anticipated would possibly be their last visit. Miraculously...today she is healthy and doing well. Still building up her strength, as it was not too long ago (I think about a year now). But each and every day is a blessing as she continues to do better. I cannot even imagine the thrill of being able to surprise her with a visit to the Oprah Show. Sincerely, Lisa Schwartz dnlschwartz@earthlink.net

Hi Tara,
I really enjoy your blog and watch the Oprah show everyday. Would you ever consider doing a feature on a story line that is on the soap opera Guiding Light between the characters of Olivia and Natalia (a.k.a. Otalia)? It is a slow burning love story about two women who fell in love with each other that never expected to. I think this story line would fit in well on a piece about same-sex couple love stories becoming more prevalent on television. It is the best love story that is on television right now and has a huge fan base that can also be found online. This story line has touched so many people across the world and has been handled beautifully by the writers. I think it would be facinating for your viewers to be introduced to this storyline and the performances that are given by Crystal Chappell (plays Olivia) on Guiding Light everyday. Keep up the great work in the world of OW!

I was so inspired by The Oprah Effect. I would like to watch it again in its entirety. Was that show produced by Harpo?

I was so disappointed to pull up your blog and find the most current entry was almost 7 months ago.....

Dear Oprah' Producers

I need your help!!! for a very important Harpo Hookup...
My neice Madison was an Extra in the movie "Amelia" starring Hilary Swank that is opening this weekend... ( she got to play one of the little girls running after Amelia) she got her first Acting pay check for the role. THE PROBLEM is the movie is not playing in her new home town of Fort McMurray Alberta Canada. and the theatre is not sure when they are going to, if at all get it in....
We are all so proud of her for being picked to be an extra, she is so proud to be in the movie, (We hope her seen wasn't cut) but we did see her in the trailer so we hope she is in the actual movie.
Could oprah manage to pull a few strings and maybe have the movie play or set up some kind of special showing so that Madison, her mom, dad, brother, sister and friends could see the movie and not have to wait for the DVD.
The rest of our family will likely be able to watch it opening weekend (not here in NL though)but I think it would be great if she could see herself on the big screen.
Any help would be very appreciated.
