Wanna Swap Stuff with Nate Berkus???

Posted on Mar 31, 2009 11:42 AM

Do you secretly covet your best friend's couch? Have you ever walked into a neighbor's house and wished you could have her dining room table or kichen hutch? My crackerjack team and I are working with Nate Berkus on an idea unlike anything we've done and seen before! We're looking for a brave group of 4-10 neighbors and friends who are willing to participate in an old-fashioned swap meet. Each neighbor will select 3-5 pieces of furniture from her house that she's willing to part with for at least six months or a year. America's top decorator, Nate Berkus, will preside over your swap meet and decide which pieces should go in which house. For instance, he may think your bedframe looks better in your neighbors house and your neighbors dining room table looks great in yours. Modern swap meets are a great way to get a new look and new stuff without spending a lot of money. And just imagine Nate Berkus in YOUR home giving you and your friends decorating advice--he'll even tell you how to arrange your furniture! If you're interested, go to oprah.com--and under "Be On The Show," click on "An Oprah Show Swap Meet With Nate." Write to us TODAY--our deadline is fast approaching!

Hi Julie -

I'm not much help with this topic, but I tried to email you with a possible future show theme or segment. Your mailbox is full though. Any suggestions? My email is: jeff.lipsitt@verizon.net

Thanks, and good luck with the 'swap'!

Jeff

Dear Julie,

I was driving along thinking about this show and it occured to me that another spin on this that could really help people in several ways; reduce cost, recycle and encourage community and knowledge sharing, would be to also have a swap meet that allows people like me to go through our garages and share excess remodeling, home repair, decorating supplies and accessories--I even have party and event supplies. My 25cents

Good luck with the show, loving the blogs!

Dear Julie, I have a great idea! Why not add another dimension to this whole makeover thing by including painting parties, etc? By sharing chores such as plumbing (fixing leaky faucets, replacing faucets, etc), patching walls, etc, friends could save money, and become self-sufficient doing small household work that normally is a little intimidating doing all by yourself. Also a show on moms saving babysitting fees by watching each others' kids...like 2 or 3 moms who each get a date night out w/ their hubbies by "kid swapping".

I told you I was new at this. I posted on your "Nate" blog my idea for a show.....oh well....patience and practise.

I have a new take on this. I want to "swap" my whole house. actually donate it(as soon as I can pay it off...argh!) to someone in need(will have to be moved). so I can build myself a new handicapped assesible one in it's place. I would be willing to do a lot of work to make it happen.

Julie,
I'd like to find a way of "swaping"(well actually "donating" to someone in need) my whole house(has to be moved...after I can pay it off). would like to build a handicap accessible one in it's place. I can do a lot of the groundwork but will need some help, too.

PS. do you think you'll do another "swap meet" show in the future?
thanks!

Great idea! Hope it works out....try contactig your paper or habitat for humanity yet?

OMG! My friend and I was just talking about this very idea! I am an interior designer and she is "America's Fun Budget Coach". Her passion is to teach others how to utilize your friends, neighbors and community on creative ways to save money. I know she and I would be willing to swap furniture for 6 months! ...we kinda already do, of course not to the extent your are talking. But what a great and fun idea!

Hi Julie,
I really enjoy your blog and watch the Oprah show everyday. Would you ever consider doing a feature on a story line that is on the soap opera Guiding Light between the characters of Olivia and Natalia (a.k.a. Otalia)? It is a slow burning love story about two women who fell in love with each other that never expected to. I think this story line would fit in well on a piece about same-sex couple love stories becoming more prevalent on television. It is the best love story that is on television right now and has a huge fan base that can also be found online. This story line has touched so many people across the world and has been handled beautifully by the writers. I think it would be facinating for your viewers to be introduced to this storyline and the performances that are given by Crystal Chappell (plays Olivia) on Guiding Light everyday. Keep up the great work in the world of OW!

Julie.I want to know how I can get ahold of the show to send my story to "Nate to the rescue"topic.I have sent it 5x's but I keep getting it back,I guess the pictures are to large for your e-mail.Can I send it to your personal show e-mail?I am desperate,my kitchen is a fire hazard.Thanks.
