Season Premiere

Posted on Aug 21, 2009 6:11 PM

I have a new found respect for people who blog daily. I'm lucky if I brush my teeth daily!* Anyway... it's 6:00 on a Friday night and I'm getting ready for the weekend. So why not blog? First of all, thank you, thank you, thank you Oprah for TOAL (Trip of a Lifetime), our two-week cruise you may have read about in the tabloids. Let's just say don't believe everything you read. Unless I'm writing it. Then believe away.... So here's the deal: two weeks of non-stop fun in six countries (including the vatican, which is apparently its own country. Who knew?) I won't say too much more. You'll just be annoyed you weren't there. Or, I'll tell you about the one bad thing that happened. I got stung by a jellyfish in Malta. Ouch! I learned that you're supposed to wash the sting with vinegar -- not pee like you may have heard.

And with that I take you to the season premiere. Here's a fun little promo link for season 24: http://www.youtube.com/user/OPRAH. Gotta love the Black Eyed Peas. It's legal to post that, right? I am working on the first two shows: Whitney Houston and..... Can't tell ya the second one yet. But it is going to be good! And I promise I'll tell you once we make the official announcement. In the meantime, any great Whitney moments? Feel free to share and thanks for reading!

*If my dentist is reading this, that's a joke. Twice a day with floss!

Okay, the trip does sound a little annoying...you lucky guy! Tell me in this day and age where jobs with that kind of benefit can be found? Gives me hope to not give up looking/dreaming.

The summer of 1985. One of my favorite as a young man. A very happy, carefree, on top of the world time. Whitney's new album was all over the radio. She was gorgeous, her voice was amazing. Today, when I hear a song like "You Give Good Love," I am instantly transported back to a beautiful time, thanks to beautiful Whitney.

Well, I'm blogging you from the total opposite side of the world - New Zealand... It's amazing the things that you guys do under Oprah's wing! It is truly out of this world to a person like me.

The trip for a start is absolutely mind-blowing - to know that such things could even be possible. To spend a two week long cruise around six countries, for work is outrageously inspirational :)

I am honoured (yes we spell it with a 'u' here) to actually have the opportunity to communicate with a producer of the show and so even the fact that this facility was 'thought into existence' is awesome to me.

Good on you and your team for all your hard work! This is hopefully a reminder that you hit MANY corners of the world with just as much influence as your own country.

As for Whitney - 'Mean Maori Mean' is what we'd say here in New Zealand which basically means 'Too much!', 'Choice one', 'Awesome'. We all love her, WORLDWIDE! She'll always be a legend, we won't forget the good times from 'in front of the mirror with the hairbrush' to 'party favourites that the boys pretend they hate but secretly know all the words to' Can't wait to see the show when it FINALLY arrives in NZ :)

Hi Eric

I have loved Whitney Houston ever since I was ten years old. But to this day, I have never seen her perform live. I actually met my best friend, Quencie, because of my love for Whitney. We met 12 years ago because a mutual friend knew we both loved Whitney, but we did not get each other¿s contact info and didn¿t stay in touch. 8 years later, we met again and we have been best friends ever since. I have every TV appearance that Whitney has ever been on. I have every awards show, every music video, and every movie. Not only do I have every CD, but I also have every single and import. My favorite Whitney Houston song is ¿The Greatest Love of All,¿ as sang on a TV special she did entitled, ¿I¿m Whitney Houston: This is My Life.¿ It was so heartfelt. Another favorite is ¿This Day.¿ She also sang this on her TV special. Words cannot express how powerful and emotional she sang that song! When my grandmother unexpectedly died from Pancreatic Cancer a few years ago, the one song that helped me through was Whitney¿s ¿One Wish.¿ I lived with my grandmother for most of my life, so her death was the hardest thing that I ever had to deal with. I was an emotional wreck. I even ended up in the hospital, but Whitney¿s song helped me cope; it helped to heal my heart. I would give anything and everything to see Whitney live. I would give anything and everything to speak with her to let her know how much she has touched my life. The recession has hit both my best friend and I extremely hard. I have been unemployed since January and she has been unemployed for a year. Needless to say, we have not been in the best of spirits, but Whitney¿s upcoming album is the one thing that we are extremely excited about! I have heard some of the songs, and I know that this album is a testimony from the heart. I really want to experience this with my best friend because we attribute a big part of our friendship to the love we have for Whitney. Had we not loved Whitney has much as we did (do), we would have most likely never met. And, I cannot imagine my life without Quencie! Please choose us to live this moment together, please!

Thank you!!!!

Hi Eric

My best friend just left the comment above, so I knew I had to leave one as well. We are on a mission to see Whitney Houston and when we heard that she was coming to your show, so I knew we had to be there. She was 10 and I was 12 when we officially fell in love with Whitney's voice. We have followed her careers since the beginning and are lifelong Whitney Houston fans. Tam and I met based on our love for Whitney Houston. One of the things I love most about our friendship is we never tire of getting together and doing Whitney karaoke, putting our favorite Whitney songs on hour-long repeats, watching Whitney's movies, and singing along to Whitney's live performances on DVD. Until I met Tam, I thought I was the only one in the world to love Whitney as much as I did. It's nice to finally have someone share in my love for Whitney without ever feeling crazy. I have had the honor and privilege of seeing Whitney perform live, but only from the nosebleed section. I would love to actually hear Whitney sing and see what she is wearing at the same time. I have been unemployed for almost a year, which has brought on depression and weight gain. And Tam has been unemployed for over 6 months. My unemployment checks ran out months ago and it has been God and my mama who have kept me from going crazy and being homeless. Whitney's new album is the one thing that has brought joy and excitement to my life. When I listen to her sing these new songs, I feel like I have a fighting chance against the depression I feel over my current situation. It feels like Whitney is singing my story and breathing triumph into it! Whitney's voice touches my soul and inspires me to keep my head up. I really love Whitney and so does my best friend. To be in the Oprah show audience and sit next to my best friend watch "The Voice: reclaim the world stage would be a dream come true. Please chose us to live this moment together, please!

Thanks!!!

Follow me here & I will get to the point...Last month, I hosted my son's 8th backyard birthday party @ my house and several of his now 3rd grade classmates attended. My son has become the biggest Michael Jackson fan since his death 2 months ago. So....A few kids followed him in the kitchen to see him do MJ's famous toe stand & moonwalk so one 8 year old girl asked my son "Is Michael Jackson your favorite artist?" He replied, "yes" so I stepped in and asked her who was her favorite? She replied "Michael Jackson AND Whitney Houston!!" I laughed so hard because I want to know how 8 yearolds have come to claim the Ole Skool artists as their FAVES! Whitney Houston was my fave female vocalist for many years and no one's voice has replaced hers. She sealed the deal for me when she re did "I Will Always Love You" (Bodyguard Soundtrack)....I will ALWAYS remember the music video where she sat in a chair & effortlessly belted out the song and I always imagined she could effortlessly perform the song sitting in a chair, just chillin in a LIVE performance! :)

The greatest Whitney Houston moment for me was when Whitney Houston was a guest on the Arsenio Hall show back in the day. On this particular evening while Arsenio Hall interviewed her, he asked her to sing while she sat on the couch. On a moments notice a microphone came down from the ceiling and Whitney sang acapella. Her voice was so beautiful that it was if god was in the room. I never forgot that and as I write you this comment, tears fill my eyes, because I know that having the voice that she had that night sitting on that couch, was god speaking to us. She definatley spoke to me, because when I heard that Whitney was going to be on your show,I told my grandmother about that night I heard her sing. I didn't even know that you would be asking us for our favorite Whitney moments. I know we all know how great Whitneys voice is, but there are moments in our life, that we realize the creator is working through us. God gave her the voice to share music with us, so when I think about celebrities, I don't necessarily see a "celebrity", I see GOD.

Hi producerEP, Love you re blog, can you blog more about you re 2 wk cruise, it sound's awesome. My dream is to take a cruise, with daughter, around the world, and write a book or blog about all the neat place's. As for Whitney Houston, the song " I Will Always Love you", can give you goose bump's, she sing's it well. Will you produce a show on you re 2 wk cruise?Thank you for blogging, aries1956

I just want to be the first to blog about the surprise on the second show? Whatever it is, can I come and bring a friend from Australia that I met only because we blog about our rare disease that less than 400 people have worldwide! We are two of them. What a treat and dream of each of us to get to meet Oprah and be on her show. We can pack quickly, just not move too fast. Disease is LEMS - Lambert Eaton Myasthenic Syndrome. The funny thing about the disease if there is any is, EVERYONE says, But you don't look sick. It is chronic, debilitating, and has no cure. How about letting two bloggers from across the world meet on the 2nd "secret" show?? Thanks, Catherine-crusso320@gmail.com

I had tried many, many times over the past two years to get on the Oprah show. I finally bought my first computor this winter at the age of 50. During that time my company closed up for good and I am now unemployed. Its okay, I know it will work out. Anyway, I have had alot of extra time, so I was able to keep track of when the reservation line opened up for the new season. I was all over it. To my surprise, I got the e-mail for 9/1 taping. At first I didn't believe it. Now I am giddy like a young school girl. Never doubt the impact you have on every day people. It really lifts our spirits, and allows us to dream. Thank-you for all you do ! I will be sitting proud in the audience 9/1.

Thanks for the blog Eric!

I also have new-found respect for daily bloggers. After a Dr. Oz / Kathy Freston interview, I did the 21-Day Quantum Wellness Cleanse and blogged daily about my experience. It was a challenge for sure.

A two-week cruise (open bar and all-you-can-eat buffet) sounds pretty good right about now! Actually, minty floss even sounds pretty good...

Greetings Chefwine,

I want to begin by giving "thanks to you, for your posting". The thing that I've learned along the way, while trying to tell my story to Harpo Studios, NEVER give up. Your posting stirred my soul, see I've been in a storm for almost 13 years and I've learned to ride it out. My true story is much like a fish swimming upstream in shallow water. Have you ever seen a fish do that? It wiggles to the right and to the left, and in order for it to stay focused, it must not look back. Sometimes, the fish will even jump out of the water and bash it's head against a rock, yet because of His power in you, you keep going. Again you keep going because you can smell the depth of the ocean up ahead, even if you can't see it.

My prayer for you THIS day is to hold on and remember to dance like no one's watching. Your words...NEVER DOUBT THE IMPACT YOU HAVE ON EVERYDAY PEOPLE. That line gave me the wings I needed on THIS day.

Congrats to you, I hope your experience at the show was more then you could have ever dreamed. Because of your posting, I've decided to dream a bigger dream THIS day.

Greetings, Eric
Sorry about the jellyfish sting in Malta. Just wanted to say I did watch Oprah today and got to see her interview Whitney Houston. I fell in love with Whitney in the 80's. My all time favorite song from her is, You Give Me Good Love. I was actually in a bad relationship during that time. So I'm not quite sure why I liked that particular song so much. LOL. Anyhow I was working nights 5 - 10pm as a clerk typist at an insurance firm back then. I had a small radio on my desk and would listen to this easy-listening station that often played that song and I'd think, 'how wonderful it must be for a man to make a woman feel like that.

And that song she sings with Enrique Iglesias, Could I Have This Kiss Forever, is so hot.

Good for Whitney for her triumph. May God keep her strong.

Eric,

Something serious has been going on in my life and I need your help please. If you can't help me please refer me to someone who can. Thank you very much. :-(

Hi Eric!
I just joined and I wanted you to know what a great job you did on the opening season show. I loved the Black-eyed pea dance. I studied and learned it so I could teach it to my elementary students. I can't wait til we have our school dance. I teach them all kinds of line dances every year to various songs, so I love it when I can add something new. The kids love this song too!

Thanks and keep up the great work!
