Your Favorite Moments With Oprah and Gayle....

Posted on Apr 27, 2009 4:11 PM

Hello All, I'm working on a show for next week that's total fun for myself and my entire team.... we're putting together our favorite highlights of Oprah and Gayle from the past GABILLION years. Funny moments of them on the road (how could we forget their cross-country road trip?!) and some of their more hilarious exchanges. It's funny... in the early days, Oprah would always refer to her as "My Best Friend," Gayle -- and now Gayle really needs no introduction. There are so many moments to chose from... but I'm curious to know what moments stick out in your minds.... if there was something that we never followed-up on -- that you may have wondered about? I'm also totally interested to know what questions you might have for the two of them.... or any ideas that would liven up this show. Reply and blog away! Can't wait to hear from you... Dana

That is such a great idea. They will love that. Let me think about it and I will get back with you on some ideas. But just wanted to let you know that is such a good idea.

Dear Producerdb,
I also think it's a good idea doing a Oprah and Gayle Favorite Moments. I really enjoyed the road trip they took together. It was too funny! I'm thinking of some ideas. I will also get back with you. Thanks again

I love this idea and would like to share one of the Oprah Shows that truly set me free and it was a show about trying to figure out what your gifts are, and how to know what you were meant to do with your life. (This was a very, very, very long time ago). I too loved the road trip, and may I suggest that Oprah and Gayle take another trip, but by train throughout the USA or by Grey Hound Bus. I love the honesty of their friendship that they can voice their beliefs and opinions and still remain sisters, (best friends). I also loved Gayle finding America's best things, such as America's best pizza, or cookie, etc. I also loved when they went to that ranch where they had to live like they were either pioneers or live like a pilgrim or something like that. I loved Gayle's complaints, as well as Oprah's complaints about the whole experience such as not being able to take a daily shower, or not being able to wear make-up and including having to use an outhouse...That was a funny show...I am laughing about that show right now just thinking about it.

If I were there in the audience, I would love to ask Gayle for a hug. I truly admire Gayle. She is so brave for singing during their road trip, I wish I could be that brave. Every time I make a noise that sounds like I am about to sing, my two sons always starts turning up the volume of the T.V. or tells me if I wouldn't mind just not singing. If I start singing in the shower they would be quick to start banging on the bathroom door to get me to stop. I want to hear Gayle sing again!

I would love to see Gayle and Oprah on a European vacation together, maybe with Andrew Zimmerman the Bizzare foods guy from the Travel Channel. I would love to see Gayle or Oprah try something that normally they would never in a million years try.

I want to see Gayle King on, "Dancing With The Stars", please, please, please, someone from, "Dancing With The Stars", please sign Gayle King!!!! Please Gayle, pretty, pretty, please, agree to be on, "Dancing With The Stars", I will totally voting for only you, I promise. I know you would be fabulous on this show. You truly look like a dancer.

Your Truly

Oprah and Gayle are a hoot! The exchanges from "Live Fridays" are pretty funny because they are so unscripted. The follow up show after Dr. Laura was on was great because Gayle stood her ground although Oprah thought she was being a little prudish...it's nice to show that friends can compliment each other by not being in total compliance all the time. They are a great example of what millions of women have in their confidantes. You always need that one friend who is not afraid to tell you when the "emperor has no clothes on"...I can see that Oprah has that in Gayle, as she does not mince words.

hello joneszy - wondered where i might be able to contact you with a few more questions... loved what you have to say about your fav moment with oprah and gayle.

hi cynthia ann - wondering where i might contact you -- this is a funny idea. thanks, db

I compare Oprah and Gayle's friendship to my best friend and I. We have been friends for 13 years. We are very open with each other, believe it or not we have never had a disagreement! We always tell each other how we feel about something then move on.

Now that I've said all of that. I would like to ask if their mates or husband has ever had a problem with them being so close? From time to time my best friend and I have that problem. For the first time in 13 years we are now only communicating once a month. This is driving me crazy! I'd like to know what they would do to handle this situation.

Hi Dana,

I forgot to mention that I would love to see the the cast of my favorite show Girlfriends appear on the Oprah show. On the show the women would quiz Oprah and Gayle on their favorite things, to find out how well they really know each other. Since Oprah loves shows of favorite things, and its a show about their friendship, this would be a great way to liven up the show and fun for women to relate to other "Girlfriends"! Rashika

The show sound's awesome, love them both!!!!!

If you ever have the guy from Bizarre Foods on I wish I could be there because if Oprah AND Gayle both try something Bizarre, I might be willing to try it with them, but I responded to one of the topics for "Be On The Show" I answered "Do I know Someone Who Is Deserving and Needs A Helping Hand" and I nominated my two sons. If you have read any of my blogs you would know who they are and why I nominated them and I rather be in the audience for that should they be chosen.

That sound like a lot of fun! Oprah and Gayle are such good friends they are perfect example of how friends should be.
Could you tell Oprah for me how lovely/fabulous her hair looks. I am from Jamaica and now living in Hawaii and it's hard to keep my hair from breakage. How does she keep her hair looking so healthy? What are some tips she can give to me, to help with my hair?

I think one of my favorites was when the two of them went to the Spa and took viewere. I felt Gayles pain being up there, but I still laughed so hard with Oprah. It was a Great Show. I would love to see Gayle and Oprah together do other peoples jobs. Our Tv station in Des Moines did a segment on that a few years ago and it was such a hit with viewers. There would be laughs and realization of what people really do everyday.

I can be reached at joneszy19@hotmail.com

I would love to see a Newlywed game type thing for Oprah and Gail. You could have other celebrities and their good friend on as well. Or perhaps you could have some audience member with their best friend. It could be a bit of a competition to see who knows their best friend the best. It could be really fun.

Hmm...I am going to play the "devil's advocate" and say something totally different! We all know Gayle is Oprah's friend. Hopefully we are all blessed to have a close bond with another woman. However, I am not so sure that we need to know everything about Gayle and Oprah together. The intricacies of their life is something they own, and it can tend to get repetitive. Sorry!
I believe that a follow up short program on BHRT, how everyone is doing, etc. would be nice. This is BIG news for women in their fifties and is still affecting us.I feel this is going to change the world for women. Many have had problems finding the right doc, the compounding pharmacy, etc.
Thank you for all you do

How about when Oprah wore a.. "low cut" top and Gayle later told her that Oprah has poked her eye out!? LOL We all need girl friends to tell us when "the girls" need some attention. :)

One of the funny moments on Oprah was when Oprah set Gayle up with blind dates . It was so funny to hear her remarks and see her expressions. I wonder if she has found that special someone?

PLEASE HELP ME!
I don't know how this is going to go over and I certainly don't want to come out looking like a weirdo (because i'm not...not today). I feel a little desperate and so I'm kindof in a "what the heck" mood. My name is Yvonne Michelle. I am a sometimes happily married mother of 4 boys. I am a labor and delivery nurse and a wanna be comedian. I have been told I was funny all my life. My patient just told me I should be a comedian last night which is why I decided to go for it. I got a posted link on my facebook the other morning. It said that the Oprah show was looking for people just like me who have been told all their life that they were funny and wanted a chance to show the funny on the Oprah show. I told my boys and my mom that I had a good feeling about it and as soon as I woke up ( I had worked 14hours that night and was beat) I was going to fill it out. I woke up and got ready for work, sat down to fill out the app and IT WAS GONE!!! I just about lost my breath, litally sick to my stomach! I actually cried.(go figure?) I feel that my calling is to be a comic. I have dabbled in it but life has always found a way to come in like a thief and steal my vision...or at least distort it. My oldest son's father, Ronnie, died in 1994 from cancer, but he left me a card to open after he died telling me that he wished he could be here when I made it as a comic. I always held on to that, but 14 years later...nothing. I know if its to be, it's up to me...so that is why I am aimlessly asking for any help anyone can give me.... Please help me. I am the funniest nurse/mom you will ever hear. It is a God given talent that I have embraced now I just need the rest of the world to embrace it to. Laughter is so good for the soul and I just want to share my gift.
Hope this is not in vain,
Yvonne Michelle funnygirl4god@hotmail.com

I love the idea of Oprah and Gayle show. Through the years, Oprah introduced Gayle as my best friend Gayle and then last week I saw Oprah forgot to introduce Gail on her Friday show. That was not explained on television, but neither Gayle nor Oprah seemed bothered by it. They both seem so confident in their friendship. Very special. I recently saw a utube video where Oprah thanked Stedman and Gayle for their support at the acheivement awards. Most memorable was the the road trip, Gayle's singing, and Oprah's honesty. They seem so real and genuine, sincere friends. I am curious of how long they have been friends, and how they met. I also loved the show where Oprah called Gayle on the phone live, because a group of men inquired about Gayle. Keep up the great work. I love the show and appreciate shows like this. Peggy

Old show...when Oprah turned 40 and they saved Gayle as one of the last guests. When Oprah saw her she said something like "She was the person I wanted to share this most with".
Truly touching, the bond of friendship.

YES! GOOD IDEAR!
Dont forget the spa trip!
And dont get sooo serious on the show..
I would like to see an show of just pure laughter please.

My favorite Gayle and Oprah memory is a fairly recent one... it was the O Magazine Show on Oprah Radio when Oprah and Gayle were discussing the 'mother and daughter' sexuality survey and feature. This followed the show where Gayle had said to Laura Berman "it's just too much information!" (that comment made me love her so much more... not because I agreed with her, because I didn't, but it just showed how honest and real she is). Anyway, on that radio show Gayle was saying that, like the mothers interviewed and discussed in the magazine, she thought she'd had 'the talk' with her daughter Kirby. So Oprah suggested that they call Kirby, explaining that Kirby's usually harder to get hold of than she is. The called Kirby, and Kirby answered. Kirby and Oprah agreed that Kirby would have appreciated more of a 'nuts and bolts' discussion about sex than she'd had. Gayle seemed genuinely surprised and very naive about what she should have said.

That conversation was so heart-warming... first of all, it was just as hilarious as all of Gayle King's shows (which I love), but it was such a genuine discussion between two close friends and one of their daughters. I adored that Oprah could be so honest with Gayle, and that Gayle took it so well. The love between Oprah and Kirby was also so evident by the easy way they spoke. It made me hopeful that some of my friends and I will be able to talk that way in front of our girls someday. It also made me wish everyone (myself included) had an "Auntie O" who they could go to to ask anything, and from whom they felt so much love and respect.

I will never forget that show. It really illustrated for me the depth of their friendship and their relationship.

Kim

The funniest moment on the road trip was when Gayle and Oprah were driving through the cattle stockyard, miles and miles of it, and Gayle was making retching sounds. Oprah kept telling her, "don't throw up! DO NOT throw up!" I laughed so hard I fell out of the chair. I wish I had taped it... if you show this again, I'll tape it and replay it whenever I get sad or need a good laugh.

Fly it won't take as long, and Oprah don't take long car trips well. I would like to see Gayle and Oprah come to my house and have coffee and or tea, and spend to girl time with me. I never had a best friend and I would like to share some of that girl love with them. Oprah and Gayle look like they really love each other and I know there is a great deal of respect too.

Wanting to share in Texas

Love the time Oprah and Gayle were enjoying an early settlers lifestyle. That show still makes me giggle.

What about some bloopers of them together? That could be really funny!

Great idea!

Have Oprah and Gayle to show up as my friends and give me a reference in my haters face. I love Oprah and Gayle to be on the soaps dating the same man.

Hi Producer ! You do an awesome job. LOVE the road trip shows. My twin and I do road trips and we have a really great time - usually giggle til we wet ourselves tho ! OOPS T M I. I really want to say though that the hot car show is SOO important right now. I work for a police dept. in Iowa and just Tuesday of this week officers took a 6 mo old baby out of a hot car and sent Mom to jail for child endagerment. We had an awesome witness with great information so when Mom drove away officers caught up with her and charged her and called DHS to get the baby. The smae afternoon we took a dog out of a cr too. WHY DON'T PEOPLE GET THIS ?? It's such a help when you have a show on this and so many peoiple see it. It might not get through to everyone, but it helps make great witnesses. It breaks my heart to see this. Thank you for getting it out there.

Hi, Some ideas:
1- I remember a long time ago- Oprah saying that she has never seen a counsellor, probably because she talked to Gail every night on the phone. ( A friend to things over with ). Does Oprah and Gail still talk each night?
2- The world sees Oprah as an icon- a living legend. Does Gail see her in that way?
3- I don't know how Gail and Oprah became friends. When they first met? Where and when was this? How did the friendship grow. What they like about each other, and what do they think is the 'secret' behind their enduring friendship?
4- The 'disagreement' they had in the car on their roadtrip was interesting !!
5- How did they feel about media stories, claiming they were/ are in a relationship. Eg: Angry, embarrassed, or did not care?
I hope this was helpful. Joe.

There is a show that really sticks out in my mind that was taped a few years back. It was right after a show Oprah did with Madonna. Oprah and Gayle talked about their feelings on shows that had aired. Gayle seemed very upset with Madonna for making a negative comment about Oprah in one of her documentaries. Gayle wished Oprah would have asked Madonna about that comment.

I wonder if there have been any other guests that Gayle has disliked or wished Oprah would have questioned another way.

I also remember that Gayle was very upset with Oprah for talking about what happened during her delivery. Has there been anything else that has made Gayle very upset at Oprah?

Oprah was upset with Gayle for a comment she made to her about something Oprah was wearing. Gayle said something about getting a black eye because Oprah's chest was showing too much. Is there any other times when Oprah has been upset with Gayle?

How do they resolve their issues and how long do any conflicts last?

What personality traits do they each have that compliment each other and which ones to they find annoying.

Hi,

My name is Julia and I am a young mother of 2. I recently turned in to Oprah and asked my husband to join me. The show had on two teenagers that desired to have sex. I thought the show was interesting but what we found most interesting was Gayle's opinion at the end.

She said that mother's shouldn't engage in buying their children condoms - and disagreed with Oprah and one of the mothers.

We also happen to agree with Gayle - not so much because we believe that a female shouldn't have the right to do as she pleases - but when you look at the act of sex from a spiritual point of view it takes on a whole new meaning. Although, we understand and see Oprah's point of view. It would be interesting to have a further discussion.

All me best.

Julia

What a great idea on doing a Gayle and Oprah favorites. My favorite was the car trip. It was soooooooooo funny. Especially, when Oprah had to wait for Gayle all the time leaving hotels.....Flo

Oprah and Gayle are always a riot. Has anyone ever thought of taping a Gayle and Oprah slumber party? Just imagine; Gayle, Oprah, Maya Angelou, the puppies, A New Earth discussions, Cooking Bob Greene favorites, singing Tina Turner songs. A night full of laughter!!

Gayle and Oprah! Have either one of you said something in the heat of the moment and wish you could take back or almost died when the words came out of your mouths???? All friends no matter how close they are have some sort of argument or thought or said something they wish they hadn't!!!!!!!!

THE CRISPY BACON comment Gail made to OPRAH when they lived out in the prairie for a spell. It was hilarious! It was TRULY reality TV. BFFs being BFFs and forgetting about the camera!

Wonderful story idea. I remember when she first introduced Gayle to us as her best friend. I have been watching my Lady for a long time. The Road trip really cracked me up; especially King singing. Also, I wish she could get a date with George Clooney. I smile whenever I think about these two. What an honor to have a best friend.

This show should be great, but a little overwhelming for me to watch. In January of 2005, my best friend of life passed away of Lupus. It was a 27 year friendship that i never thought would end. This was the one person that i would stop the world for and when i found out she was sick, I dropped everything and went to California to be by her side. Now while at the hospital,i didn't know that she was terminal and to this day, i do not know that she realized it. I distinctly remember telling her we would beat this.I am a flight attendant and was a layover and when i got the news, it took my breath away and I still cry during happy times, during sad times with the thought of her absence. A few years ago, some friends asked me to join them in helping them do something in her name. we decided on a scholarship whcih is called Lavlle's Purple Tea Fund in which we give a scholarship to a student from her alma mater , North Carolina A&T or from someone from any of the local high schools from North Carolina that is accepted to the school.I have had to talk about it alot to get the momentum going and i still am heartbroken and mssing my best friend. My advice to gayle and Oprah, take lots of pictures, makes lots of tapes and spend quality time together. Make the most of everyday and meet each other's friends and family because you'll want the memory to be there and everywhere. When I watched how Stella got her groove back and wathced how Angela bassett handled Whoopie's death, I cannot say I was that subdued, but the do what makes you happy message really hit home with me. Our favorite movie that we enjoyed was beaches and I still cannot watch it without crying. Crying cleanses the soul, but what do you do to mend that broken heart.? Gayle and Oprah be true to each other and have fun. If you go through this life with one best friend, you've scored. Karen Williams-Harris, Atlanta

I loved the road trip with Oprah and Gayle I wanted to do that with my bestfriend. I am not sure we would survive that long together.:)

I would like to know have Oprah and Gayle ever had a really bad "falling out". Also, please play the part on the road trip when Oprah and Gayle had a little "tiff" about the meaning of the Paul Simon song.

Thanks Dana.

My favorite moment was when Oprah and Gayle were drinking slushy's from 7-11, somehow, you just don't envision Oprah and Gayle in a 7-11, let alone drinking a slushy!!!!!!!

OH my goodness, my mom and I were just talking about this the other day. We absolutely loved the episode when Oprah surprised Gayle and sent Josh Groban to her office! I was absolutley on the floor laughing when Gayle reacted to seeing Josh and hugging him! And then, of course, I cried as the Oprah Show always makes me do from 9 to 10 am! :)

My favorite Oprah and Gayle moment happened when they went on a spirit retreat spa adventure. Gayle was afraid to let go and fly through the sky tethered by straps. Funny as all get out!
Allow me to brag right now... After over 15 years of attempts, I have FINALLY won a seat in the audience! I LOVE THE LOTTERY SYSTEM! In addition to calling for audience seat reservations, I have written letters several times to actually be on the show. This has been some kind of life I'm leading. I'm a kidney donor to my sister who is married to someone I once dated, for example. I'm going to be able to cross "Witness an Oprah taping" off my bucket list on 19 November during the morning taping session. I. can. not. wait!

I served time in jail for a crime I did NOT commit is their anything that can be done about this.

Is there anyway I can write to Oprah herself?
I just took an hour and a half writing you about what I need help with but apparently you can't send private messages and everything was lost. Just a continuation of everything going wrong I guess. So get back to me, would you? I feel I have a story that could be very worthwhile to your show.
