Someone Pinch Me!

Posted on Mar 11, 2009 6:20 PM

When I heard we were going to start blogging about the show, I have to tell you I got a little giddy. I think people are so curious about the show and how we put everything together - and I LOVE the fact that I can open a small window and let you all see inside.

OK, so first two questions I get about WHENEVER people hear I work here - "What's Oprah like?" Let's be clear here - we're not exactly hanging out having tea together! I work here - and she's my boss, not my "buddy." BUT she's brilliant, and funny (she cracks herself up a lot), creative and really, really generous.

Second question I get - "What's it like to work there?". The HONEST, HONEST answer (hand on heart) - it's the hardest job I've ever had and it's the best job I've ever had. I remember eight years ago when I moved back to Chicago and got a call-back from The Oprah Show after dropping off my resume (I had worked in TV in NYC for years). I was staying at my parents' house (in the same room I grew up in - stuffed animals and all) and I SQUEALED. I literally squealed...and I think I chirped a little ... and then danced a little jig ... and then I yelled downstairs to my parents - "I just got a callback from The Oprah Friggin' Winfrey Show!!!" Mom: "Great, honey!" Pause. Then my dad turned to my mom when he didn't think I could hear him and said "Wow. Good to see her excited about something for a change." (Guess my being bummed about moving back to my childhood room was more obvious than I thought.)

So here I am, eight years later - and still excited. I still dance jigs in my office (and the senior production assistant on the team cringes and tells me I'm embarrassing myself.) Over the next few months, I hope I can share with you what makes it the most challenging and the best job I've had. Just to get us started - one of the best parts: talking to people I never, ever would have come across if I didn't work here. That goes for Hugh Jackman - (he's even better looking in person and I almost fainted when I went in to his greenroom to introduce myself) as well as the family who talked about what happened when their mom came out as a lesbian. (Stay tuned for THAT show - it was juicy!) I'll log on when I have something I think you'll be interested in ... and I'll log on when I need your help with something. I would love this to become an open dialogue. I'll tell you what's on my mind - and I hope you'll do the same.

That's all for now from my little corner at Harpo. Here's a little toast to new beginnings!

You are soooo funny! Thanks for the entry. Actually this is the first time I have been on a blog! I can't wait to read more ...

Angi

your story is heart warming and funny, keep up the good work!!!!!

It is refreshing to see (read actually) about someone who is thrilled to be enjoying her work. I tip my glass to toast you, Caroline. I am one of those people who gets jazzed about everything :) My tiny crocus bloomed here in the beautiful (chilly) Hudson Valley of NY State. I screamed with delight and made my husband step outside to see them. Needless to say, he wasn't as thrilled. Keep getting excited, stay 'jazzed' and never let anyone or anything dampen your spirits. And the comment about Oprah being your boss not your buddy - why, I betcha if you made the tea - she'd share it with you! Have a great day.

producercz, Congrats. I'm so glad you enjoy your job, I wish I had a job to enjoy. However, I'm sure you get lots of questions asked about you and your job working for Oprah. (smile'n) My only question would be is can it be any easier to get tickets to at least see her show in person? (I have been trying for years) But, I will say this and I hope you at least pass it on to her. She does a great job and I realize she knows a lot of people look up to her and her accomplishments. On the other hand there are some who wish they could sit and talk one on one with her. I'm so excited for you and the fact you have a fulfilling job that you enjoy. Please don't ever take it for granted. (cuddles)

Aww I love your blog it's so cute! Can't wait till the next one (smiles)

P.S- I love all the topics you choose for the show, who comes up with them? They're always eye opening, informative and most importantly have a purpose to connect with people somehow to educate them and raise awareness. Way to go! I appreciate all the work behind the scenes of the show!

xo

I loved reading your blog! It was very funny and insightful. I can't wait to read more.

Communication with everyone on the Staff is a wonderful thing!...It is nice to see the team behind Oprah. On that note, if I wanted to suggest a book to be reviewed by someone on the team...who would I contact? I would like to suggest the book Adrift in a Vanishing City by Vincent Czyz...it requires the reader to work, but I think that is a good thing..

Let me know... And congrat's on getting on FB...it is a great way to communicate!..

-HarpoBear, Oprah.com Community Producer

I loved your post and am glad to hear about all the producers inside stories. Yours was exceptionally cute and reminded me of my own time when I yelled silently, "Somebody pinch me" I was at the show about four years ago for a Luther Vandross tribute. It was amazing being there alone so focused on the fact that my dream was to speak to Oprah. After the show so many people stood up to ask a question or say something. As shy and quiet as I am I knew I had to gain the courage to just stand and hope for the best. After a few people requested photos, Oprah headed out of the studio...she turned and I will never forget it. It was truly like the universes way of presenting dreams do come true.

Oprah came over to me and talked to me...the rest is unbelievable history. I know something happened that day to us both. Im sure I remember the moment more than her but both of us can never forget the feeling.

I am glad you all are blogging in. I'm thrilled to read more.

Thank you guys for commenting. I'm so excited to know that someone is actually reading this ... other than my mom.

So let me answer a couple of your questions - first Cuddles4 - I hear you! I've met people in the audience who have tried for years to get seats. (And as a producer, let me tell you, you REALLY want your show to hit it out of the park when you know people have had 2-3 children in the time it took them to get seats!) Here's the scoop - our studio holds at most about 360 people and we tape 6 times a week during the season. Then, factor in the demand ... and it's not really a surprise that tickets can be hard to come by. To get you the best information possible, I went to the head of our audience department to see if I could get some "inside scoop" on the best way to score seats (other than being ON THE SHOW, of course! - have you seen the "be on the show" link on Oprah.com?) OK, drumroll please - she told me the easiest way to get tickets is to respond to our "last minute seats" available on Oprah.com. She says the ticket line is a little harder because the entire country is calling on the same few days.

I hope that helps!

I've got to get back to work now (I'm working on a show idea that I think is really interesting ... cross your fingers I can pull it off. I'll tell you more about it probably tomorrow.)

_Mandy, I'd like to answer your question next. Come back tomorrow and I'll jot down my best answer to that question. Bye!

- Caroline

WOW this is exciting. I am glad we get to hear form the producers. I will reading all of your blogs to see what happens next.

Lots of love from me and all of the people on Operation Help AJ meet Kenny Chesney.

Dream job! It gives me hope - it IS possible !!

I need some help ... please.....

I want to MAIL Oprah a packet ... but can find no address...
Oprah,
I am a grandmother of 3 wonderful boys. I have been close to them since their birth. Oregon DHS has taken them from the parents, and banned me from them as well. I am 60 yrs old, a college graduate, a MENSA member, a former delegate to the Democratic Convention in Boston 2004, and an active member of my community on the Oregon coast in Newport.
DHS takes children - and the family never gets them back.
Please cover THIS SIDE of the story on your show. I've been in contact with Richard Wexler - and I have copies of GA Senator Nancy Schaefer's report -- that DHS often makes wrong decisions and keeps children in funded foster care, rather than return them to their families.
Please help. My three grandsons need a miracle.
Thank you,
Claire McGee

All these years at Harpo and you are still dancing? Somebody give this producer a big raise!

Thanks for the peek inside!

Love Ya!

Hi Caroline, I think it's so cool of you and the rest to make yourselves accessible to your public. It sure makes for a little more "bonding" but I know it's a little extra work. I have been blogging since 2003 I think and because I am an artist in a wheelchair, I feel it opened whole new world of opportunities for me, and I mean WORLD. Wow it will be interesting to watch this whole concept develop. Congrats on the job!!!

Cheers- Erika

Hello!! I am a college student. And my dream is to react like you when i will get hired by one of my prefered best company. It was nice reading your blog. I have a blog too but i write in french there. I am happy for you, It is probably nice to work for such an amazing person. Okay I have to go bacl looking for an internship for this coming summer. Kisssss

Well I can pinch you but I can POKE you, LOL. I really love OGAM (Oprah, Gayle, Ali, Mark) Fridays. You guys work well together good job today.

Cute story. Thanks for sharing. I can just see you dancing your jig!

Funny...I kinda danced a little jig when I learned about your blog!! Keep up the amazing work!

Thanks for sharing. Before clicking the link I was expecting to hear a boring story, about your perfect life at Harpo Studios. A miss goody-too-shoes who feel like she's miss perfect for working with Oprah.

I must admit you seem like such a cool person. A lady who is really down to earth, as well as funny. I look forward to future posts.

Kanarian K.

In the last year I can honestly say that Oprah changed my life. It began with her series she did with Eckhart Tolle and continues on with such moving stories as her recent Tent City show. I have always considered myself to be a "spiritual" being searching for meaning in my life and because she dares to do what others don't she opens a New World up to us all. Thank you all for your hard work, I believe it is changing the world.

HI _Mandy,
Show ideas come from everywhere - producers pitch ideas they get from magazines, papers, the internet, things they see on TV, books they're reading, friends' and families' suggestions, and just random pops of inspiration. I listen to the radio a lot - and often hear stories that spark an idea. The best advice someone gave me about pitching a show or segment was this: Does it excite you to produce it? Would YOU make a point of tuning in to watch it?? If so, chances are a lot of other people will, too. I think of that advice whenever I pitch an idea.
- Caroline

Hey again Producercz, Thanks so much for remembering to reply back with a good answer, it means a lot. I think that's awesome, that advice is really good to keep in mind, andddd it has worked, because so many tune in to the show. Thanks again for sharing that.

Cheerfully awaiting your next blog,
xo-Mandy

That is a hilarious story... if i was close by i would pinch you! You are really funny!
Sheyla

So cute to read your story, CZ. Give all the producers there a big thank you hug from me and save a special one for Oprah and you. You have all been such a heeeeuge part of my life for two years since fibromyalgia and I became such good, dear, loyal--shall we say--stick together friends. When all I can do is lie on the couch in pain, you and your crew are there to make me feel like I'm sitting on the porch sipping tea with my bestest friends. You guys make me laugh, you make me cry, you're my heroes, and you perform acts of service every day, just by doing what you do. You are serving little ole Karey out in Utah, and making a house call to a housebound soul. I'm doing a very teeny weeny thank you jig raht now! Dontcha know it! I love and appreciate each one of you. Thank you. Keep dancing. :)

Caroline,

This post is too funny! How exciting and your right it must be so rewarding to hear peoples stories that you may never have come across. Makes going to work interesting I am sure.
I see it myself as I fly the country speaking out about sexual abuse in front of thousands and sit back in aww of the people that break their silence to me because I found my voice.

Look forward to further blog posts from you.
Erin

Great job Caroline! Thanks for providing the terrific insight into your life pre-Oprah and now "Oprah-ful." Now we just need to get Oprah on Twitter!

I have a question, I love all the shows and know that alot of time goes into the planning of each show and so much background checks on the guests are performed, with the schedule being so "tight" from one day to the next, how does the producers add important event shows into an already full schedule? for example with the Tyra and Oprah show within the last few days, that show probably wouldn't have been scheduled if it were not for the Brown abuse against (Rhiana) sorry if I spelled her name wrong, it is such an important show, but what happened to the show that would have originally been scheduled for that day, does the shows schedules allow for unforseen happenings that need to be addressed? One more quick note, Oprah has such a large fan base like myself who lives in Ontario, and since our countries are neighbors, will you ever open up contests and promotions to Canadians? Thanks for your time.

Hello, Caroline!

I have to say, it's really inspiring to read your blog because it reminds me that the Harpo staff are really people who have worked hard to get to where they are, and who are talented and determined. I'm a college student, and I'm working really hard to become a Research Coordinator at Harpo, and I've been talking back and forth with a few of your colleagues (Candi Carter is amazing!) to make sure I make the right moves to get the job when that time comes.

Please keep doing this blog! It might seem a bit insignificant to you, but I am soaking up anything I can get to help me dream -- and this blog has already helped me dream clearer dreams!

Hope to be working with you in less than a year!

- Taurence

welcome to FB! im will enjoy following your blog.

I know that giddy feeling and scream you speak of, LOL, I did the same thing when I got through to someone at your tickets Reservation line for the Puppy Mill Show. The saddest show I ever saw, but it was worth it just to be able to look Oprah in her eyes and shake her hand and say thank you for everything that she has done for me. It is because of her that I am alive and living my dream today! ;-)

Hi Caroline,
I hope you are doing well. I noticed my comment was removed. Doe's the no link rule apply here? I am sorry if that is the case. I just wanted to share some inspiration with you and others. I would still like to follow your blog. I am fasinated to read the behinds the scenes stories.
Thank you
Janet Gardner

That puppy mill show was one my team and I did - and I'm so proud of it. That show came out of a billboard that an amazing animal lover (Bill Smith of Mainline Animal Rescue) put up here by Harpo Studios. One of the missions of that show was to get people to consider rescuing an animal from a shelter - and it was Oprah's suggestion, no insistence, that we visit a shelter where animals are euthanized because of overcrowding. She wanted people to really see - and feel at a deep level - the consequences of not spaying and neutering. One of the producers on the team went to a shelter and watched the whole, sad, sad process of a dog being put down. I'll tell you - if my boss had asked me to do that shoot, I don't think I could have. I knew it would be hard to watch - and the first time I saw that footage in the editing room, I cried. I had to compose myself for a couple moments before I could talk to the producer or the editor. My hat is off to them - and to the assistant editor - because they had to spend TWO DAYS looking at that heart-breaking footage to create a piece that was respectful to the animals and the shelter and still had impact. Lisa Ling and two other producers went on the undercover puppy mill shoots - and that was hard work, too. The things they saw probably gave them nightmares for days ... but they felt if it got people to think about where their dogs are coming from, it was worth it. Thanks so much for writing.
- Caroline

Hi Taurence -
I love your email b/c I have soooo been where you are. To get my first job in TV, I called a friend of a colleague of a friend of mine (that's the truth) who worked on a show 14 TIMES - to see if he would meet with me for just a few mins. I was really polite every single time - but looking back on it, it was a wonder he EVER called me back! If you have a goal, and you're qualified for it (that's KEY - you need to at least have the skills the job requires) stay true and keep striving toward your goal. If someone talks to you and/or looks over your resume and gives you suggestions on how to better your chances or qualifications, consider listening to them. I had to take another job while I was trying to break into TV - but I think you CAN get your dream job if you work hard to get the skills, you're polite, and you're committed. Good luck!

Cheers Caroline! What a great first entry. Who can resist reading when your excitement jumps right off the page. I love that you do the jig (smile). You sounded as excited to get a call back, as I was to hear a person when I called for audience tickets. At the age of 30 I was jumping up and down squeeling so happy I had gotten through again - the first time I was disconnected - and all my Dad said was, "Don't say anything until you actually have tickets". It was quite a moment. I get to visit The Oprah Winfrey Show on the 27th with three other amazing moms - we still cannot believe it. I just love that you guys are on Facebook now and we can see what it is like behind the scenes. Every single person is just so important. The hardest jobs usually provoke your best work (smile). Eight years and still dancin' you certainly can't complain about that. Can't wait to read more entries. As Oprah was once quoted saying, "Devote today to something so daring even you can't believe you're doing it." It's the theme for our entire trip to Chicago - we cannot wait! Seize the day.

What a nice note about Cliff. Keep believing that he may be on the show someday. His project sounds wonderful. Besides, most people think they will never get tickets to be in the audience, never meet Oprah, never be on her show . . . look at all those people who do exactly that. Dream big and believe you have a chance at making those dreams come true! Tell Cliff to keep up the good work (smile)

Caroline ... what a great story ... you have such big heart. Did you get the story I sent you on the show website where I found my son after 50 years? Was hoping this would be interesting for a show as it is so inspiring and gives hope to those who gallantly gave up their children for adoption. Thank you so much ...you all are so inspiring everyday and know how to have your guests touch our hearts.

Click to view mbraver449's profile mbraver449 Level 0 Mar 14, 2009 4:54 PM | in response to: producercz Hi Caroline-- Congrats on launching your blog and thank you so much for sharing the scoop about what it's like to work on the Oprah show. I was especially impressed by this week's show about dating violence -- and Oprah saying what no else has, that Chris Brown/Rihanna's handlers should be focused on getting them help and time apart, not a duet. How wonderful that you still do a jig about your job. I feel that way about mine 5 years into it, such a gift! Best of luck with your blog. I've been keeping a daily blog for nine months now (Melissa Single Gal In The City) -- incorporating entries from 95 diaries -- and having so much fun with it. Question: what is the most memorable show you've ever worked on? --Melissa

The more we all communicate ..the more we will all learn and grow.

It's great to hear how you got on Oprah. I have applied online many times at Harpo and never got a message. I work as at a public access station in Evanston as a volunteer producer and I am president of the board of directors. I love producing shows. I agree that formulating a show and meeting the people that you would never meet is truly exciting. All of you producers do a great job and you touch and help so many people. Keep up the great blogging.

Caroline,
I think you all do a great job at the show. Its great we as viewers get a chance to have this kind of perspective. I have watched Oprah for many years, since I was in high school. I am sure while you all see and hear some very interesting things, you learn a lot as well. I am certain you have heard this before but I was born in Koscuisko MS and its good to see someone who lived there make such a difference . I still have family there and love the building that was built by Oprah to give the kids a place to be after school. Keep up the good work!!!!

Caroline, what is the best way to get a story to Oprah or her producers. We have tried to tell Oprah about Haben Abraham for so long but never get a response while Maury Show and others have Haben appear on their show already. What is the trick? :-)

Thanks,
Mulu

:/ I was deleted. I'm sorry for whatever I did...I don't think I did anything wrong...I guess I don't know the rules.

I would like too know how Oprah can support Obama when he totally supports Israel and has given them hard earned tax payer money and they are commiting genocide on the Palestinians. He is supposed to be a change. I voted for him for change. Too me he is no different than Bush. Oprah supports a President who supports a government that will kill innocent people. Maybe if they were black people she would feel different?

i don't see my comment. Maybe just feel good comments right?

Hey Shirley3 - do a little research before you condemn Israel. Secondly, this is a Producer Blog - not a bash Oprah, Obama or Bush blog. Put a little love in your heart, will ya? I wish there was peace in the world, but unfortunately the war between Israel and the Palestinians dates back to biblical times and no U.S. President will be the one to end it. I believe only the Son of God can do that. Peace to ya and Love2Ya, Sister.

Hi , i have a really fresh idea for a show. Fine art. It seems everything has to be animated to be seen on TV. Painting and drawing are exceptional parts of the human experience, and rarely shown except on PBS. You shown musicians, actors, fashion, etc. Why not art, ever? And i have an art stoey with a female slant;

When rattling off the names of great artists at random, rarely does a women's name come up. Michelangelo, Da Vinci, Picasso, Van Gogh,
Mattise, Warhol, Klimt, ETC.

What about Cassatt, Kahlo, O Keefe, to name a few. The list is short and hard to bring to mind. Women were never taken seriously tho they were just as talented. Until recently, they weren¿t allowed to show, just hobby painters.

Throughout history women were expected to care for home and children, and not much else. They were not free to be sculptors, writers, artists, architects, priests, or any leadership positions, with some rare exceptions, such as Queens
Women, because of their repressed sexuality, never painted men, in sensual poses. Men painted women this way, an excepted art form.

But for a woman to do that makes her a fallen woman, a "Bad Woman". Women were not supposed to express sexual desire, this is still evident today in primitive societies, especially Islamic, where they must cover up, be submissive, and even female castration.

Ginger James' work is important as she is the first Woman artist to paint men in reclining and sensual poses. No woman has yet to paint a collection of models of the opposite sex in the manner of Mattise, Picasso, Modiglianni to name a few. She is the breakthrough artist on the wave of women's rights and Freedom of sexual expression. Woman as the creator and viewer of eroticism, instead of the passive model.
Why not do a story about this, i would be glad to come, my website url is on my Facebook page if you'd like to see more. Have a great day and thanks for all your great work on Oprah! Ginger James

Greetings Caroline!

Thank you for the inside peek. I lived in Chicago for over 8 years, and whenever I would passed the studio, I would always imagine what it would be like to work there. Let me know when you all are interested in the thoughts and ideas of a very interesting 30-something-year-old, stay-home mother of 3. I think I would make a great HARPO employee...HEE!

On a serious note, thank you so much for the blog notes!

T. Selders

Caroline,

Thank you for the honest and wonderful insight into your employment at Harpo; as well as, some tidbits about you personally. It reminds us that shows don't just magically appear and that it requires hard work behind the scenes in order to provide quality programming.

No offense Oprah, you are wonderful!

I love that Oprah is on FB. Ima FB junkie and I secretly wish I was Oprah so this works out perfectly!LOL Im not sure if this is the place for this but can someone create a show on mens clothes and how and what they should wear to different function and setting. I have a boyfriend whose 34 and you cant tell his closet from his 13yr old son.(Tragic!) A lot of men need help transitioning from jeans and t-shirts to big boy clothes! I dont know much about mens fashion so im no help. I sure there are some general rules for mens clothes too! just a suggestion - thanks

Dear Caroline,

Someday when you are sitting in your office wondering what your next story will be consider a story on Chrissy's Courage. My 26 year old daughter who died December 21, 2008. She suffered over six years after gastric bypass surgery. She lived everyday in pain because after the surgery she had malabsorbtion which led to many problems. In her short life she helped many people overcome problems and I would love to honor her story of strength and courage. As well as, tell her story to all overweight young people contemplating this surgery. Chrissy was a counselor and she was so good at it we didn't even realize she counseled our family through her final days and left us her strength.

Hello Caroline, I have an idea for a reality show and would like an opportunity to send you the outline. Is this doable?

I LOVE watching the Oprah show! How fun to get to read about how it all happens backstage!!

I wanted to suggest a possible future Oprah Show. Being that October is Breast Cancer Awareness, I think it would be FABULOUS to have a survivor show for those who have survived all types of cancer. An all survivor audience. Possibly a "DREAM COME TRUE" type show...granting wishes and making their ultimate dream a reality. I can tell you my mother in law's dream come true would be to be invited as an audience guest to see Oprah. My mother in law is truly the ULTIMATE OPRAH FAN and has been for many years. I honestly don't think she's missed a single show in at least 10 years, she subcribes to her magazine, reads her recommended books, is always passing along advice or suggestions heard on Oprah, and considers her to be very uplifting and motivational! My mother in law recently received a clean bill of health after battling ovarian cancer that nearly cost her her life. It was a very long uphill battle for both her and my father in law who was by her side the whole way. My husband is 1 of 6 kids and each of the kids took their turn to fly in for what they anticipated would possibly be their last visit. Miraculously...today she is healthy and doing well. Still building up her strength, as it was not too long ago (I think about a year now). But each and every day is a blessing as she continues to do better. I cannot even imagine the thrill of being able to surprise her with a visit to the Oprah Show. Sincerely, Lisa Schwartz dnlschwartz@earthlink.net

Dear Caroline, My name is Michael and I love reading your posts! They are so entertaining and you sound someone who gets very excited about things. I get incredibly excited about the simplist things but lately I've had a lot to be excited about! I bet that it can be very interesting working as a producer for a great lady like Oprah. You guys really come up with some inspirational stories. Since you share so many of your personal stories with us I'd like to share the latest thing that excited me!
I am legally blind, I've had over 23 surgeries at a local children's hospital when I was a kid, and I also have glau coma. Last year, I got a new way to look at the world when I recieved a new pair of glasses called "Bita Vision" glasses. WIth these glasses, for the very first time in my life, I have been able to see stars in the night sky, street signs, license plates, facial expressions. The list goes on and on. I realize you probably have really long days but if you could spare just "3 minutes and 18 seconds" and search my youtube channel "xxclassic08" and check out the video called "Can Anyone See This Video?" It will show you exactly what its like to be legally blind (like the Govenor of New York) and how much these glasses have helped my vision improve. I still can't drive because the nerve damage in my eyes has no perefrial vision but ITS A START!! I hope you'll check out this video that I worked on for over 8 months it'd mean the world to me! Thank you for all you do and keep posting those really funny stories.

Caroline I am very happy for you. We are in a world that can sometimes move too fast. That means you have to chase happiness. Whatever you are doing, you seem to have caught it. I hope this happens for everyone. By the way, if you have the time or are curious about diabetes, check out my blog in the Diabetes Support Board. I am the Anonymous Diabetic (anondiabet).

Love Always
Anonymous Diabetic.

Hello!
I am a film producer and theatre producer. I have degrees from Harvard University and Stephen College. I would like to know how to get in to work with Oprah as an Producer assistant as I am very interested and would love to speak with you. I understand it's a crazy long shot, but I thought I would try. I have a stand on it's own resume and would no doubt be a perfect team member. I am currently working as an 1st Executive Assistant Producer to a top Executive Film Producer in Newport Beach, CA. In addition to film production, his company owns numerous restaurants, shopping malls and is a record label. My duties include running all of the above effectively and efficiently interacting with each on a daily basis, as I am the only assistant. I also manage the household and am very happy with my position here and have been in their employ for almost two years. However, both my recent husband and I are looking to starting life in Chicago where I am from and it would be great for me to stay in the line of work I love so much, the entertainment field.

I completed my undergraduate work at Stephens College majoring in Theatre Arts/Psychology and also completed Harvard University Theatre internships where I achieved 4.0, including being involved with MXAT Moscow Art Theatre/Harvard University for my Masters. On my own, I have successfully produced/directed The Vagina Monologues here in LA. Other interests include promulgating the foundation Save A Teacher/Miracle Worker where I have in different counties raised monies for arts in education by touring with the show playing Annie Sullivan. This project was endorsed by Ms. Patty Duke as well as The Anne Sullivan Society. Along the way I have found time to become a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) acting as a liaison between foster children and the court. My most recent script project "Titsling" (a musical comedy of the history of the bra and breast) which is meant to raise money for breast cancer research (endorsed by the Susan G. Komen Foundation), is completed and we are finding it a home.

I, along with my two brothers and Fiance have a keen interest in the entertainment field as my older brother is an assistant editor in Hollywood, my younger brother is working along side of John Bruno in special effects and my husband is both a screenwriter and director. The three of us are close and learn from each others special talents.
I am on top of my game to manage and coordinate any number of specialty programs since I do it every day without fail when millions of dollars are at risk. In closing, while I particularly like my current position, life marches on and for myself that would ideally include continuing my endeavors in Chicago as thats where my heart is.

I would like the opportunity to speak to you, in that maybe I could be of an asset to you in some capacity, I apologize for sending this info on this blog, but there is no other way to get in the door.
Thank you kindly for your time~

Best Regards,
Ashley Stiles

Someone Googled me yesterday and was surprised I came up so many times. She suggested I try it myself. so I did. I'm surprised too. I just want to thank you many times over for recommending my book. It is, as you say, a little more work, but I tend to think of it as a certain amount of fun.

Thanks again.

What's Oprah thoughts on Michael Jackson?

Today when Oprah did women about how to please, some of us men can't perform either and need help too. I watch her show on a daily basis and could use help on the other side of the spectrem. Please try to help out with that,
Thank you.

Hi Caroline,
I am excited to write on your blog. I am a Doll Maker trying to get some exposure for my Bottle Dolls. These Dolls have been in my life since I was a little girl. These are dolls that I had to make at a time when the family didn't have lots of money and there were very few Black dolls.
I hope you will take a look at them and let me know what you think. I am a fashion designer and I design all their clothing. I am teaching young girls how to make these dolls. I hope to teach the girls in Africa how to make these dolls. Let me know if you would like to do a story on them. They have a very interesting history. Prayers go up for you. Congrat on your longevity with the show.

I am wondering since you must produce so many shows do you have any single one that really touches your heart and gets to you-Oprah has so many great creative shows on air ever since I started watching her I try not to miss any of them. They can be so inspring and makes you think about what you have and should be grateful for. The staff of Oprah do such a wonderful job and great original content goes on air. Oprah deserves very many awards and you guy stoo that must work so hard in putting these high calibre shows every day. I am taking classes in doc. film making and one day would love to tell real stories too on film.

Possible show suggestion.... Makeover for NURSES!!! I love my job but wearing scrubs day in and day out gets little tiring. So please tell Oprah to consider a show on making over healthcare workers in America, including myself ;-) I know lot of yound/old nurses who can use a makeover.

Hi Caroline, how about an Oprah look alike show!? Because Oprah and I look so much alike, people ask me all the time if Oprah knows. People are very interested in wanting to see Oprah and I together. They want to know what she thinks about it. They want to know if we're related. I'm bombarded with questions. I meet people from all over the world,(flight attendant)Some of them even think that I am Oprah. They even want autographs. The request for pictures never stop. People follow me. (some times that's scary) People are really interested in what Oprah thinks about this, and really want to see us together. What do you think?

Hi Caroline,

I just tried this blog idea and I'm not sure if my original message got to you. I wanted to tell the family of the young girl with schizophrenia about something that has helped me. I am a woman with a bipolar brain and have used lithium for 30 years. After many searches over the years I heard of Dr. Robert Keller. A Scientist/Reseacher who studied glutathione for 12 years and perfected a nutient that would enter the cell and make the glutathione increase in body...One of the many wonderful conditions it helps is bipolar/schizophrenia...If you go into PubMed the doctors site and enter glutathione and bipolar/schizophrenia you will see the brain is depleted in it...it also benefits from NAC N-Acetyl Cysteine which also showes up in the search...the nutrient I tried had made the difference...After only 3 months I noticed the gerbal on the treadmill had stopped, my stress level had decreased, my focus, clarity and memory has improved so much that my confidence level allowed me to write this...My sleep which is so important to bipolar/schizophrenia brains is deeper and I remember my dreams...Other physical areas have improved but my bipolar has always been the most important...I always thought it was in my "head" and it wasn't in my "head" the GLUTATHIONE...Dr. Keller just made it possible to recycle it throughout my body and after 6 months I am living the difference...I'm not trying to sell a product this way but I do have a huge family with mental illness and have seen the damage it has done in the bigger picture...why hasn't anyone realized the answer is already in our bodies....Jacquiebvg

Love the show and and the blog...I was searching through all the blogs, because there are thousands of fans (who also love the show) in dallas that would love some information about the show that is supposed to be taping on October 12th at the State Fair of Texas. I have contacted the PR Dept for the fair and checked the website daily since the first announcement that she would be coming. Even the news channels say stay posted for details...it's October 8th people! There are so many posts on the discussion board and EVERYONE is CLUELESS! Could someone please clue us in. People are talking about taking off of work that whole day just to wait around at the fair and find out what is happening, but no one wants to waste their vacation day if they have no shot at seeing the show or OPRAH! Please help your fans out and give us something!
