Why do Breast Self-Exams?

Posted on Apr 29, 2009 10:11 AM

You may be thinking that since nobody in your family has had breast cancer, you do not need to worry about checking your breasts regularly. But this thinking is illogical becasue if you do have breast cancer, you will not know and it may develop into something less treatable. Remember, early detection saves lives.

The best possible reason for doing breast self-exams is that IT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE! By taking charge of your breast health, and doing regular breast self-exams, you are going to become familiar with your own body. Many women, especially young women, find cancerous lumps on their breasts months before their annual checkup and years before their first mammogram. The best thing about doing a breast self-exam is that it is non-invasive and FREE! At first, you may be uncomfortable and not know exactly what to be looking for, but with time you will be able to know what your breasts normally look and feel like (and be able to detect changes).

So check your breasts once a month, and have an annual mammogram to keep your breasts healthy :D

With Love,

GHFairy
