Cell Phone Etiquette

Posted on Nov 7, 2009 1:45 PM

What is going on with people and their cell phones anyway? Are cell phones now a permanent part of the body? I am amazed at how rude and inconsiderate people can be. While I'm at dinner with my fiance, he's texting. He asks me a question and then while I'm answering he gets a text and picks up his phone and texts back. I stop talking just to see if he notices. When he is done texting back he looks over at me and has no idea what we were just talking about. But he doesn't even try to pick up where we left off, he makes some comment and tries to fake it. This goes on the entire time we are at dinner. Why doesn't he just take the person he is texting to dinner? He obviously has more to say to them than me. However, when we aren't out together, he then texts me and says in his text, "I'm out to dinner with my mother and my sister." And then proceeds to ask me how I'm doing? What???? Why isn't he visiting with his mother and sister? They are right in front of him. Or how about this one?

My fiance and my kids and grandkids and I are all on vacation at a beautiful lake house. The whole time we are at the lakehouse on vacation (i find out later) he has been texting people that aren't with us to tell them how much fun he is having at the lake. Give me a break. Then when he went on vacation back to the east coast to see his family, he is texting all of us back in CA and sending moment by moment photos via his phone of people we don't even know. Give me another break!

Does this make a person feel important? What about being in the moment? Be with the person you are with. Be where you are when you are there. Kind of makes that ole saying, "Love the one you're with," have a whole new meaning.

By the way, the "fiance" and I are no longer together.

to be continued....
