Why we love it: Wrapping small sections of hair around the grooved barrel creates soft, natural-looking—instead of tight, Shirley Temple curls. And the ceramic iron heats up evenly and quickly, reaching 410 degrees in just 30 seconds: speed styling!

This may be the more advanced version of color blocking, but it's easy to pull off: Pair graphic pieces with a solid item that matches the darkest color in the print. You want to ground the look with rich fall shades, not summer brights. Clockwise from top: Jaclyn Smith, $25, kmart.com. Kate Spade New York, $288, katespade.com. Lafayette 148 New York, $498, lafayette148ny.com.

I saw tons of styles with tiny faces at the Basel watch fair this year. They're a delicate alternative to the oversize boyfriend watch, and perfect for layering with bracelets. From top: Miami Beach by Glam Rock, $195, nordstrom.com. Burberry, $750, burberry.com. Hermès, $2,150, hermes.com for stores. DKNY, $195, macys.com. Coach, $398, coach.com for stores. Citizen Watch Company of America, $325, amazon.com.

This is the bag shape of the season. I especially love these neutral colors, which work with everything—think of them as the purse equivalent of a nude heel.
Clockwise starting from top: Deux Lux, $170, deuxlux.com. Michael Michael Kors, $398, 866-709-5677 for stores. Valeria Smith, $640, valeriasmithnyc.com.

Each piece in this Express suit is designed to work separately or together, and the color scheme (not to mention the leopard lining) is a fun twist on basic black.
All items from Express: Jacket, $118. Vest, $69. Pencil Skirt, $69. Pants, $79.90. | | Photo: Roger Neve |
Every woman needs a perfect black blazer, and this one by Norma Kamali is very well-made and affordable at $80.

This is a coat that makes an entrance: The metallic fabric, quilted inner layer, and on-trend anorak shape are so gorgeous, it doesn't matter whether you're wearing jeans or sequins underneath. And at $215, this is one high-fashion garment that looks much more expensive than it is.

Whether your legs are long, short, or somewhere in between, these classic pumps by Rachel Roy will make them look leaner. The 4.5-inch heels may seem high, but the .75-inch hidden platform ensures you get a lot of comfort at that altitude. The best part? The wide range of colors makes it easy to find the right pair. Rachel Roy, $225 to $250 each, nordstrom.com

Lewis | Erin Flett's designs feature everything
from cheerful pups to graphic florals and abstract, riverine
ripples.Her Goods
Erin Flett's patterns—which she
silk-screens onto pillows, bags, and
wall
hangings—are often inspired by her collection of unusual
bric-a-brac. (Old sushi bowls, a 19th-century coloring book,
and a
vintage scarf have all influenced projects.) "I grew up
sifting through
junk at estate sales," Flett says. "That's
where I get a lot of my
aesthetic."
Her Method
Flett sets a screen atop a piece of fabric
and, with a squeegee,
rakes ink across it to transmit an image
to the cloth. Flett's
4-year-old, Aryana, is her biggest fan:
"When she was little, she would
clap when we got a good print,"
she says.
Her
Philosophy
The zippers on Flett's
pillows—which are stitched locally—are
sourced from family-owned manufacturers. "If someone helps you
make
something," she says, "their energy is in it. So I want to
know them,
and I want to make sure they feel good about the
result, too."
Flett's
designs—shown here on throw pillows and messenger
bags—feature everything from cheerful pups to graphic
florals and
abstract, riverine ripples.
Adam Glassman, O magazine's Creative Director, has made a new discovery:
I’ve had to buy my share of baby’s gifts over the years, and just because a present is meant for a little one doesn’t make it any easier to find the perfect thing. Which is why I’m crazy about Burt’s Bees Baby, a new line of organic apparel and earth-friendly products. The clothing—in tasteful shades of muted grays, pinks and creams—is absolutely adorable, and is sure to please style (and environmentally) conscious parents. And while 100% organic clothes are usually quite expensive, these pieces are super affordable: a 3-piece newborn set (bodysuit, bib and hat) is $9.99; a baby knit terry coverall is $14; a 7-piece gift basket (which includes clothing, shampoo and lotion) is $39.99. The line, available now at Target.com, will eventually expand to include home and lifestyle products, but in the meantime I’ve found my new go-to baby gift.
When you’re trying to beat the summer heat, sometimes there’s nothing better than staying home in the AC, with popcorn and a good movie. We asked Jennifer Westfeldt, the writer, director and actress behind the film Friends with Kids (out on DVD today) for some suggestions. Here are some of her favorites: The Diving Bell and the Butterfly: This is unlike anything I’ve ever seen: It’s based on the true story of Elle editor Jean-Dominique Bauby, who became paralyzed after suffering a stroke and learns to communicate through blinking his left eye. He’s trapped inside his body, but the cinematography artfully captures his flights of fancy, dreams, and imaginings. Rushmore: My partner Jon [Hamm] and I love to watch this movie whenever we come across it—we still quote the lines! It’s a 1998 Wes Anderson film that stars Jason Schwartzman as a lovable, eccentric high schooler who’s put on academic probation. It’s moving, heartfelt, and utterly original, and Anderson does an incredible job of mixing comedy and drama. Plus, it’s got one of the best endings I’ve seen in any movie.
