Health Questions for Dr. Oz

Dr. Oz
Loyal listeners are calling in and writing e-mails asking Dr. Oz, his wife Lisa and Dr. Roizen some of their burning health questions!

Barbara from Indiana asks Dr. Oz why she bruises so easily. Dr. Oz says it could have something to do with her light skin and northern European heritage. "There are some folks who have very thin skin because historically they needed to let the sun rays in," he says. "Sometimes the penalty you pay for that is when you bump yourself those small little capillaries can be prone to injury."

While easy bruising can be genetic, Dr. Oz says Barbara may also need to increase her intake of vitamin K. "It is possible that you are vitamin K-depleted, and that means your clotting factors will be a bit abnormal," he says. "So, get leafy green vegetables in your diet and increase the broccoli rob and the other things that have a lot of vitamin K in them." Lisa says that Barbara can also try a homeopathic remedy called arnica to help her bruises fade faster. "You can take it under your tongue or put it topically right on your bruises, and your bruises will go away much faster," Lisa says.

Another listener, Deborah, writes in to comment on a recent segment on The Oprah Winfrey Show when Dr. Oz helped a college student cure her smelly feet by soaking them in tea. Deborah wants to know if the homemade remedy will help her problem with sweaty underarms—Dr. Oz says it will. "Make yourself some tea—then soak some dishrags or cloth in it, and put it under your arms—it is actually pretty effective at drying out your armpits," Dr. Oz says.
