About Dr. Angelou
One of the most influential voices in contemporary literature, Dr. Angelou has authored countless bestselling books, including her autobiography, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, and the Pulitzer Prize nominated collection of poetry, Just Give Me a Cool Drink of Water 'Fore I Diiie. She has moved generations with her talent and passion for social change and is recognized around the world as a leading civil rights activist. Dr. Angelou has written, produced, directed and starred in productions for stage, film and television. She received an Emmy® nomination for Best Supporting Actress in Roots in 1977. In 1981, Dr. Angelou was appointed to a lifetime position as the first Reynolds Professor of American Studies at Wake Forest University. In January 1993, she became only the second poet in United States history to have the honor of writing and reciting original work at the Presidential Inauguration.
